That's a Lineman.

All linemen are electricians, but not all electricians are linemen.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So the juvenile lineman could still be called an electrician until it matures?

[–] fulcrummed@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I think you’ll find they’re actually all jackdaws.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's like calling an osprey a bird

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

What’s a baby osprey called?

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Dont call a lineman an electrician. "Electrician" = inside wireman. Linemen are a different animal. At least where I live, you have to be able to troubleshoot a home to be considered a proper electrician.

Source: am electrician, live near a lineman IBEW local

SO are electricians considered more skilled? Genuinely curious. I feel like a lineman would be since they deal with more deadly stuff but what do i know.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Nah, not much more deadly kinda, If something sends electricity to the lines when they are supposed to be off, it gets risky which is pretty much an issue since people are stupid and will do it accindentally by connecting their generators or solar pannels where they shouldn't

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago

I suppose. My knowledge of electricity ends at watching ElectroBoom and StyroPyro. Entertaining, sure. but don't learn a whole lot. ElectroBoom teaches more but i don't retain it.

Here's the thing

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Line men are absolutely not always electricians

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That's not a lineman. That's tower crew for cell phone towers.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 3 days ago

Lineman. OP would be tossed out of the nest for calling them a electrician.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Don't touch it or it's mother will abandon it

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fun fact: Birth of an Electrician is one of Arthur Miller's lesser-known plays.

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's at least a third year apprentice. He's taking up the last lineman's nest cuz he got caught going to the bar at lunch.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Where's the blue helmet?

[–] Coupable@lemmy.world -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

OP is an AI simp and this is probably a generated the image.

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I try not to be a clanker wanker but sometimes I legit can't figure out if a picture is AI. This is one of those times.

[–] Coupable@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You've defended AI image generation in the past, why are you pretending to care now?

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because I'm able to recognize when I've made mistakes and take corrective actions.

[–] Coupable@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That's awesome, all the best <3
