Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

Brent Jindra, a tech salesman, voted for President Trump three times, drawn by his aggressive immigration agenda. He never imagined the crackdown would ensnare his own wife.

I never thought that it was so easy to take freedom from anyone,” she said. Mr. Jindra, too, was nervous. “We are living in fear in my own country,” he said.

That isn't exactly how it went down though, Brent. You had ample warning, but insisted on not thinking.

And now your wife is having the life that you could not be stopped from voting for.

Two in the thoughts, one in the prayers.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago

It is quite remarkable how someone in the US can be so illiterate and yet still make enough money to support two adults and buy luxury/designer items for the wife.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 66 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You know what?

Good. If that’s what it takes for him to understand that he’s a shitgoblin for voting for this, well… that’s what it takes.

[–] Archelon@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just a shame his wife was sent to the camps for it.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don’t feel that bad for those women. Like you might have felt bad for Erika Kirk having to be attached to Chuck and the you realized that she was there by choice and is also shitty. Men who vote for Trump need to be lonely.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In her first interview, Erika Kirk came out and said "The hardest thing for me is going to bed and him not being there"

And I felt genuine sympathy and pity for her, I know what loss feels like.

The interviewer asked about losing sleep, and her face completely changed and she said "oh the Lord lets me sleep all right".

And my sympathy evaporated.

the Lord

Is this what they're calling Xanex these days?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

Lord Xanex, who art in the clouds,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy link pull through,
Thy chill come to,
On earth as it is in the clouds.
Give us this day our daily high
And give us our floaty feelings
As we forget those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into anxiety
But deliver us from worries

That will almost certainly not be the lesson these types of people take away from such events, unfortunately. They still want to hurt others, often, and are just upset they somehow got taken out of the in-group and hurt.

[–] one_old_coder@piefed.social 47 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I’m only doing my job

I have heard that one before, like 80 years ago, but where?

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

What do you mean? It's brand new

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I think it's was in a place that claimed that work would set one free..

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 41 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Only until it affects them do they realize rights are for everyone. Bit by bit, things will turn, but boy is it taking a long time.

[–] dactylotheca@suppo.fi 22 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The majority of these "people" who got their faces eaten by fascist leopards have outright said that they still support Trump

[–] Mcdolan@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're sick, and I don't think there's an easy cure. And that fuck pusing up Daisys won't be a cure, just subside symptoms for a little bit.

[–] dactylotheca@suppo.fi 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah, just like his counterpart in Russia, Trump's only a symptom. The real sickness is right wing conservatism, and they're literally going to kill us all if they have their way with climate denialism.

These people need to all be treated as existential threats. The vast, vast majority of them can't be fixed.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (3 children)

So you see, the upper echelon want us fighting with ourselves. The more you feed into it, the more you play into their hands.

Yes, you will never have the same views as those folks, but don't take your eye off the ball. A fragmented population is much easier to control.

I'm not saying fully forgive or that you'll be best friends, but it's your countryman. Unite against the real enemy.

[–] dactylotheca@suppo.fi 4 points 3 days ago

They're not "my countrymen", I'm European. The US has made it extremely clear that they're an enemy now, and I have absolutely zero empathy for stupid fucks like these who helped bring the Trump regime into power.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Anybody who supports the shit these fucking people support is my real enemy.

Education is the only long term answer. RWA personality disorder is a genetic predisposition, but the brainwashing that turned these people into self-destructive fanatics, utterly subjugated by the drum of fear, anger, and hate, is frustrated directly by all forms of education, since lack of it is what the brainwashing exploits, directly.

Unfortunately, once they have breached that gap and filled the fanatic’s mind with corrupted worldviews over decades, that represents a complete education of fear, anger, and hate, and their personality becomes so entangled with the corruption that little of who they once were or could be remains any longer.

To escape that cult and become a former fanatic while possible requires intervention from loved ones, assuming any remain who they haven’t alienated, followed by a long personal journey to excise all the fear anger and hate, salvaging whatever uninfected shreds of their former self might remain, and growing anew.

But that is a best case scenario. Most of these fanatics will remain as a cancer among us until they die.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

“She did not jump a wall, she did not swim a river,” he said. “She came in Trump’s beautiful, big front door.” His wife got illegally arrested and detained and he's still talking like a fucking retard.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 4 points 2 days ago

You can't fix stupid.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The problem is that even if it turns on many of them personally, it still won't stop them for voting for the same policies next time.

They are like Wiley Coyote. No matter how many times they fail, they just assume they can overcome the error next time.

[–] Archelon@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

“They’re not hurting the right people!”

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 21 points 3 days ago

He’s gonna vote Trump a fourth time.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

“I never thought that it was so easy to take freedom from anyone,” she said.

Despite all the warnings and history, somehow.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

So many of these MAGAs, including Trump himself, thought that the government just runs on its own intertia, and no president, or anyone else, makes a big difference, but it isn't true. You CAN fuck up basic systems, and cause serious problems for massive amounts of people.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

Poor MAGA, go whine to all your MAGA friends. I'm happy when bad things happen to traitors, racists, misogynists, incompetents, and pedophiles, like you.

Would still not be small enough if markdown worked that way 😂

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maga and Patriot are considered compatible?

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Only by those divorced from reality and dictionaries.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

Must be nice to have a president who actually follows through on his promises, and does exactly what he said he'd do.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago
[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

At least they are applying the rules to the guys who voted for them.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Dumber than a box of rocks.

There's a spider hiding in the box.

My quick read is that he assumed he and his family would slip between the cracks because he's privileged and he is used to that general sort of thing. First they came for the latinos, but I was okay with that because my wife was not latino.

In a more general sense, there was and has been a ton of disinformation targeted at, how shall I say this nicely, low information voters. While we can all admonish that in a myriad ways, I poke around in a lot of different little internet bubbles LEMMY included, and based on that I can honestly see how common and easy it is to get caught up in such a bubble unknowingly. Obviously we should all be seeking verifiable facts as we make decisions like who to support in politics and who to vote for, but as with everything in life, the lines there are often blurry in the best of times, let alone when entire facets of the societal machinery are purposefully operated to mislead you.
