Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

...but can I watch movies with it?

Head strap, controller straps and a nose light blocker beeing a separate purchase is fucking laughable. Especially that lightblocker not beeing included with every headset is just weird. What does that piece of shit silicone cost in production? 10 cents?

Man, i still want a standalone headset with a linux based OS and newer SOC than Q3 soooo bad. But i wouldnt have bought it for 800-1000$ and even less for what ever the fuck it will cost under current market conditions.

Had a huge hit of copium for this thought, bear with me..

What if a separate purchase of a few "minor" items is Valve's move to do what they can to help bring down the definitely-gonna-be-costly cost of the Frame? I don't really expect a need for diferent set of hand straps, extra head strap, or a light blocker around my larger than average honker. I see it as a win(??) of sorts where I won't need to spend the premium for accessory items I don't need in the end anyway. We know the cost of the Frame is going to be higher than Valve let on (they said expect it to be less than the Index if I recall) but due to rampocalypse, things are more expensive.

If I dont have to pay for extra crap, I'm all for it. Or, if i need those things, I can probably figure out some sort of after market or frugal solution instead.

Aaaaaaand... exhale.

EDIT: I reread your post, and my response seems like I'm side stepping your point. My bad. I'll leave my post as is anyway. I do not disagree with you.

My body is ready.

My wallet isn't though.

I feel you. three years ago I was hoping for an update to that after the steamdeck. but now I don't see it as achievable to get.

Release must me imminent if the page is being set up. Now, the price...

I'm hoping it will be cheaper than expected since the actual processing isn't happening in the headset. From what I know, the technology is the headset is a wireless receiver, and it relies on the processing power of your existing PC. Could be misremembering though.

[–] Matty_r@programming.dev 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You are only half misremembering. The point was that you can do both - you can install games directly on it in conjunction with streaming. There is a lot more to it than just receiving a game stream though.

Its going to be hella expensive.

The valve index is $4000 AUD ($2850 USD) when I tried to buy one recently. I was just like… I don't really want VR that much lol. That's double what I paid for my entire PC

I recently learned that the PSVR2 has a PC adapter. All the posts and comments about Linux compatibility are 2years old though.

If the steam frame ends up being my predicted price of $2000+ AUD, I'll take a chance on the $700 PSVR2 and PC adapter.
