I keep a pick stick and trash bag on hand for situations like this. It makes it easy to place trash neatly on the ground.

Bullshit. Seeing spots where homeless setup in the streets piled with trash make me not give them anything. They don't fucking care, why should I?
It sounds like you're expecting them to abide by the social contract before we do. We don't just not care about them; we're actively persecuting them.
Not at all. But if they just leave trash everywhere they go and they can't be bothered to put it in a trash can, why the fuck should I support that.
At least in America there's a trash can on almost every street corner. Within 50 ft of where they're setting up their little camps to ask for money.
Fighting homelessness is the opposite of supporting it, just saying

If we're still talking about providing housing, then nobody would be giving them money directly. You're thinking of UBI, which is a separate conversation.
Regardless of whether we're still talking about housing or cash, requirements like "are they messy" or "are they on drugs" have been tested and shown to be ineffective and harmful.
My personal opinion about these facts is that they're rightfully bitter about the hand they've been dealt, and stop littering once they've got a stake in the community. It's absurd to be mad about someone leaving trash on the street after we've left them on the street like trash.
Who said anything about giving them money? The top level commment was talking about housing, which should be a basic human right and would most likely stop the houseless people littering on your precious street.
Perfect example of how privilege destroys empathy. Next youre telling us how those damn refugees cant be bothered to get to work at 6yo just because their stupid parents got bombed to pieces. Why would you care about them when they dont pay taxes for your country? And they even keep you awake at night with their stupid crying noises, cant they shut tf up?
Who said anything about refugees? I support when I can. Especially when I'm not harassed going in/out of a convenient store.
I don't support littering, and I see the same ass holes day after day, week/month/year sitting in the same place by a stop light, literally surrounded by all their trash, overflowing into the street.
Don't talk to me about privilege, I stand up for those that can't and give when I can. You don't have to agree with me, take your hypothetical bullshit elsewhere. I've seen it. I've been on the edge of homelessness, I've gone hungry.
This is a great metaphor for the internet... it used to be cool. Now it's full of capitalism and dumb-shits who mess it up.

Seriously, it's so easy to just...not litter.
Some people are just... not okay. Something in them in broken. Perhaps it could be fixed, but we live in the bad place.
There's places that still use Styrofoam for food? I haven't seen it in a long time.
I don't see many food containers, but it's mostly replaced with styrofoam coolers that are still sold as well as lots of random packing material
