Aside from the many issues with the spelling and grammar, nobody is really focusing on the actual point of this post.

The fact is that there are millions of gamers (well, bots, too) that pre-ordered this game before ever seeing any gameplay footage.

Far too many will buy the deluxe edition and R* will make so much money that they'll probably piss themselves from laughing at posts like this.

Gamers, especially sports game enthusiasts, are always ready to bend over and lube up for the publishers.

The launch of GTA 6 will reinforce the anti-consumerist behavior of most triple-A studios.

I mean, I’m gonna be honest here… I’ve been duped before by games (15 years old fallout 4 fuck you bethesda) but a game like GTA 6 is kindof too big to fail. Like it’s already gonna be one of the highest selling games ever, no doubt. And I don’t think anything about how any one company acts is gonna change the way the “industry as a whole” operates. This is just what they do to us, no matter what. Rockstar makes good games, great games even.

I’m gonna shell out too much money for this dumb game cuz I’m gonna get a lot of fun out of it when I’m shacked up in the winter. I grew up playing games like this casually and the effect that has on even anti-corporate people like me is huge. I just wanna have some fun while the world ends. Idk people have every right to shit all over rockstar, but the whole hacker leaking situation(s) just made me realize that the discourse surrounding major events like this is damn near poison, especially in “normie” communities. It’s kinda funny to see rockstar get fucked over and over when they coulda just announced the damn game when they knew it was finished.

I guess my point is that I don’t know what anyone would be shocked at a billion dollar company to act this way. It’s like when Trump does Trump stuff, the media goes insane and calls it unprecedented when it’s just the same stuff he always does and that Reagan, The Bushes, Clinton, and even Obama has done before, just switch politicians with corporate.

It’s like if Apple got hacked and someone leaked the brand new iPhone or iMac or IOS, and people were like Oh my god what’s apple gonna say are they even gonna release !? Of course they would, and they’d drop a statement about how much they love apple fans and probably announce a new subscription to see the new IOS before it’s out, and reiterate that it’s because they LOVE you.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

You like the feeling of getting screwed enough that you don’t resent it. Noted.

And you call yourself anti-corporate and follow it up with I just want to have fun while the world ends and all the richies do it, so it isn’t that bad. What does anti-corporate mean to you?

And lastly, your Apple comparison is nonsensical. They sell a physical product and their digital products can essentially only run on their physical ones. They don’t lose sales from a leak in the same way a playable PC version of GTA VI could.

That said, of course rockstar will still release it, especially since a functioning playable version hasn’t leaked to the public at this point.

[–] dogdeanafternoon@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

If someone’s experience with the GTA franchise is “every time I’ve played GTA, I’ve had a blast” then how is expecting the game to be good screwing yourself?

You make it sound like people hate GTA games, yet still just eat them up. There’s a reason they are ridiculously popular, and it’s not because rockstar is greedy.

[–] deathmetaldawgy@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I did not say “all the riches do it so I should too”. We’re talking about video games here.

I don’t understand your point to be honest. All I’m ever used to is corporate ass fucking, excuse my French. My Apple comparison was deliberate because hear me out: With GTA, you know exactly what product you’re getting when you sign up. With Apple, you know exactly what product you’re getting when you sign up. I’m not surprised that people decide to buy the next IPhone before it’s even announced or advertised, it’s an IPhone, it’s too big to fail.

If GTA 6 is a bad, no fun experience, I’ll eat my words. But in no world by purchasing it (I don’t pre order games anymore) am I in love with “the feeling of being screwed”.

I grew up in 2000s America, buddy. I knew what loot boxes and micro transactions were before I knew who Karl Marx even was. I grew up on Sony and other corporate record labels selling me products like Punk Rock as anti-establishment art. All I’ve ever known is the feeling of being fucked by corporations.

And I’m sorry to say, but story wise, RDR2 is one of the best games I’ve ever played. GTA 4 & 5, when they came out, 2 of the best games I’ve ever played. Compare that directly to Fallout new Vegas, my favorite game ever to Fallout 4, which I hated and I did not enjoy playing really at all. I’ve stopped caring about Bethesda as a company 100%.

It’s like when they announced Better Call Saul, I didn’t ever glaze it before watching and I wasn’t thrilled about it being Netflix but I know that team doesn’t hire sub-par writers, amd it’s a prequel to my favorite TV show.

I’m a man with simple tastes, even basic taste in movies, TV and Video Games. I’m not afraid to admit that. Rockstar games are for people like me: simple, story driven, mindless fun and you can kill cops. All that stuff is gonna be in GTA 6 so I’m gonna play it and probably have fun.

Sorry if that bothers you, if you really think being anti corporate is just not engaging with buying anything then I got bad news for you, no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that

You should probably abstain from seeing any movies, buying electronics, playing videogames, eating fast food and literally all restaurant food (unless you love Sysco, USFoods), cars, reading books/manga, Sports, music, streaming CDs or records/casettes, concerts/festivals/, YouTube, the list goes on but I digress cuz I gotta actually get off the shitter and go work lol

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 7 hours ago

What's going on on that graph? 52 per ¢?

[–] BeUnique@lemmy.zip 77 points 13 hours ago (10 children)

Why the fuck does nobody know the difference between loose and lose anymore? I swear this wasn't a thing that was commonly confused a few years back.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

People saying "women" while meaning "woman" make my eye twitch too

[–] TwilightKiddy@scribe.disroot.org 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know, but a lot of people in this thread seem to suggest that it's them not being a native speaker that's the problem.

In my experience it's actually the opposite, so many native speakers mess up things like your/you're, it's insane. Well, any time something is off about the English grammar on the internet, we blame the American education system.

Sometimes it's funny, though. Like "for all intensive purposes".

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago

The thing is, it's not a "bone apple tea" moment, having only heard it vs reading. It's a single word, and a fairly simple thing to memorize the difference between "fail/forget" and "release/relaxed/wobbly", but... people are generally pretty stupid, and the truth is scary, so here we are. 🥲

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 38 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

That's the least of the grammatical problems in that post.

"We can't say how much pissed we are because you would see how greed we really are."

Hear me out:

Id rather see mistakes like this than

  • three
  • sus
  • bullets

And not just bullets, but also other obvious signs of AI slop — emdash included.

Would you like me to-

Yeah, I just assumed that English wasn't the writers first language.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@thebrainbin.org 6 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

There's a lot of stuff where native speakers make more mistakes than people who learn the language later in life, though. Not just with English.

It's vs. its is a classic, which is written very differently in many other languages. I suspect they mix them up less when they switch to English.

[–] Souvenir@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

It's/its is also common mistake with non-native speakers.

The really obvious one is using of instead of instead of have. Would of. Should of. Could of. From would've, should've, could've. Non-native speakers will rarely if ever make that mistake.

Oh, yes! That's a much better example, thanks.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I only someone could invent some kind of computerised grammar checking utility. ;)

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

You clearly aren't from an "english is the third language" country. I would not write like that but also I didn't notice the grammar errors until they were pointed out, my brain filtered them through.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago

"filtered them through" < "allowed them through, unfiltered" 🙇🏼‍♂️

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

It started happening to me after I degoogled my phone and predictive text no longer cares about sentence syntax. When I see it on a largely anti-google or anti-microsoft space I think that's a safe bet what's happening half the time

[–] left_is_best@feddit.online 3 points 9 hours ago

Oh, it sure as hell was.

[–] martini1992@lemmy.ml 6 points 12 hours ago

The amount of times I've seen this error over the last 5+ years, and until now I've not seen one comment mention it. Thank you you've restored my faith in people knowing what words mean. I've got to the point that if I see it in prose I stop reading because I assume the writer is an idiot.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 3 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

idk I always have a lil trouble with it and have to do a double take when writing it. it's just so ingrained that oo makes the u sound so theoretically lose should be spelled loose because lose should sound like lowe's. that might just be me doe

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 6 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

If it's spelled loose, then we could end up with another Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo

or Police police Police police police police Police police.

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 3 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

If lose should be spelled like loose, then how should the word loose be spelled?

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago

Why, loosely, of course.

[–] Klear@piefed.world 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 2 points 13 hours ago
[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 4 points 13 hours ago

my gut reaction was to invent another word, but I think the better answer would be to also spell it loose so you have yet another lead lead situation >:D

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago

Perhaps for a lot of people… English is not their native language? (Including me). Grammatical stuff will always be iffy, even in peoples own native language. I even mess up grammatical stuff in my native language, lol.

That’s not all… auto correct helps with everything these days and thus people usually don’t really think anymore about what is the correct way to write a word. I suppose.

Though, why do you get so upset about something like this? Just boils your blood for absolutely no reason. It’ll just keep bothering you while you can’t solve the problem. Good luck.

[–] Reznik@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

As a non native speaker: where is the difference?

[–] cabbage@piefed.social 13 points 11 hours ago

If a bolt is loose you might lose it.

[–] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 hours ago

Lose, with only one 'o':
Verb. To stop having something you had before, with a negative connotation. To not have success at game or competition.
Dictionary entry: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/lose

Loose, with two 'o's:
Adjective. It can mean the oposite of either "tight", "attached" or "controlled". It can also be a verb, and in that case it means something similar to "let loose".
Dictionary entry: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/loose

[–] bleustenns@lemmy.ml 8 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Lose = to misplace something.

Loose = Strauss Zelnick's mom after I came over last night

The person that wrote that used AI and didn't bother reading it afterwards and/or english isn't their forte.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@thebrainbin.org 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I read an article by a teacher the other day, who begrudgingly rejoiced a little bit whenever she found a spelling error in a student's work. Because that meant it at least wasn't written by AI.

It's tricky, isn't it? Will the amount of people who actually know how to spell decrease significantly because of AI?

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It's already decreasing, those that grow up with AI assistants won't know what writing is because all they will know is speak to the AI and it will write it for you until eventually the AI is gone (malfunction that no one can repair or it just fucks off because it doesn't want to deal with idiots anymore) and we are left with something akin to Neanderthals.

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 9 hours ago

I've had this feeling for years seeing how people barely know how to use a pen, slowly writing in block letters. This is the evolution of that.

Of course they use AI to write for them, they were never taught to write!

[–] Wireless_Dirk@ani.social -3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

uh-oh, we got a lot of english teachers and AI haters in this thread....

[–] morto@piefed.social 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Anyting to diverge the attention from any criticism to their beloved publisher

[–] Wireless_Dirk@ani.social 1 points 2 hours ago

Ain't that the truth. high five

[–] makeshift0546@lemmy.today 1 points 11 hours ago

I bet the devs feel the same way too 🙄
