I just dont want distractions

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It also saves batteries if the light sensor sees less light.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 1 day ago

Right? If it's important I've allowed it to notify me on my watch. I'm tired of being tied to my phone all the time.

[–] Stolas@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's 2026. Who doesn't have a lock on their phone?

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

For years new model phones required a lock screen. But my Samsung s25 ultra doesn't require a lock screen! I love it. There's no passcode on it. But don't worry, it's my backup phone and I don't carry it with me all the time everywhere, so I'm not worried about anybody else getting into it.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 60 points 2 days ago

I just don't like being bothered, I use my phone when I want to use it, not the other way around.

Also, you should definitely lock your phone regardless.

[–] molten@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

I just do it so she doesn't catch me cheating.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You joke, but you're not getting my grandma's stuffed pepper recipe until we celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

[–] save_the_humans@leminal.space 18 points 2 days ago

You married your grandma?

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll save you the trouble, here's the recipe for Tiral's grandmother's stuffed peppers.

Take the peppers
Stuff with tasty things
Cook them if you want
Eat

I tired this recipe, not the same. It's missing a dash of love.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 23 points 2 days ago

My phone stays in do not disturb mode. I have several people as breakthrough exceptions, but my phone stays on vibrate so even they don't get full ringers. Notifications for everything but calls and texts are turned off.

I am not hiding anything other than myself from having to deal with humans

Sounds dangerous:

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Damn. I didn’t even know my grandma had precious recipes…

[–] Slovene85@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You just found out your grandma doesn't trust you. I'm sorry.

[–] Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

They all do

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Aw, no shame over grindr. Love is love. Everybody has needs.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Can we talk about how stupid modern iPhones are? I can't place it face down because the screen gets scratched. I can't place it on its back because a camera lens is the resting point. To completely alleviate these concerns, I have to buy a phone case that costs half of the purchase price of the phone? I'm swapping to android for other reasons, but I will not miss the apple ecosystem for their design philosophy slowly becoming a fat load of garbage

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 54 points 2 days ago (2 children)

To completely alleviate these concerns, I have to buy a phone case that costs half of the purchase price of the phone

You’re either paying way too much for your cases or need to hook me up with your phone guy…

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

People selling cases make bank right after a phone is released. Cases are few and far between, and expensive to boot. Older phones have plenty of case options, all for fractions of the prices. If you absolutely must buy a new phone, look for the case online.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Buy used, always. Check Craigslist and other local sellers.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The camera lens is coated with sapphire. You really don’t need to worry about scratching it.

Also yes, camera bumps are dumb.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

If I'm setting it on the ground and on stone, I definitely do.

[–] Devadander@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

? My case was $12. Don’t be a sucker

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They're designed to have a case now

I don't like it, but that's why. You're simply not supposed to use them without a case.

I will say though, I don't know where you're getting your cases from, but I swear by the Spigen ones, they're usually £10-20 and I have bought one the day I buy a new phone for probably the past 10 years or so.

I've not smashed a screen since I started, I used to have to talk to insurance once a year before. That £15 every couple of years has saved me hundreds of pounds in insurance excess fees.

I don't even use a screen protector

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

yeah, i only got a fancier-than-spigen case on this one because i wanted a better handle/stand for the phone, and my spigen ones i got just had cheap thin plastic for a kickstand that kept breaking. also my phone now has a slider that goes over the camera and that i think is pretty slick, and these racing stripes add wind resistance.

but spigens work pretty good

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The fuck kinda dirt you got on your desks? Most modern high-end smartphones have really hard glass. If anything, the screen protectors people put on are much softer and get scratched easier (but are easily replaceable)

I'm also not sure where you're getting 20-40€ modern iPhones for, but I'm quite jealous

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This used to be true but recently they started cheaping out. My Samsung Swhatever it is had glass scratches within a month of my buying it. My friend and my partner both bought the same phone and had the same experience - we had never had screen scratches on phones for like 10 years prior, so the glass is definitely shitter. No idea about iPhones though.

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I’ve been going caseless for years now. I just keep it in my pocket or on the charger 99% of the time. It has some minor microscratches from about two years of use, but I also don’t drop my phone and know not to drag it on its screen.

I’ve had one of my dozen or so phones over the years get a hairline crack, and I still used it for another year before replacing it due to performance. I honestly don’t know what everyone is doing to their phones, but I’ve been careful/lucky enough to not have to deal with the extra bulk. I personally can’t stand the way a case feels.

[–] JoShmoe@ani.social 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Smart phones. Cant live with them, cant live without them.

[–] outerspace@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

What is the deal with the smartphones?..

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Slowly? Uhhhhhhh, been like that since day 1.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

What? Are you genuinely saying that the Apple 1 and, slightly more topical, the original iPhone were bad devices? Because I can't disagree with you any harder than I currently am.

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 9 points 2 days ago

I do all of those things because I don't want to be bothered by it when i'm trying to sleep.

[–] possessedfaxmachine666@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gotta protect the blue waffle recipe!

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Two girls should share 1 cup of my grandmother's blue waffle recipe. That's for sure.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

My grandmas couldn't cook for shit.

I'm guarding my recipes, bitches.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If you can't trust the people around you, why are they in your life?

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Snooping on your partner's phone seems to be pretty normalized on reality tv. I wonder if that has caused it. Seems pretty insane to me

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's probably because insecure morons make for the best reality TV, not really people I'd take life advice from. I guess other people do 🤷

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love absolute dogshit reality tv but it does make me worried that for sure a lot of people are looking at that garbage and thinking the stuff in it is normal

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's the same with another popular video industry, people thinks that's all normal and expect the same of their partners.

[–] Slovene85@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I know exactly what industry you mean ... Cooking shows, right?

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah like. I'll google stuff on his phone if it's within reach and mine's not but like. I'm not combing through his messages or anything that seems exhausting. That seems like the most normal level of openness to me cuz he's not afraid but I'm also not looking.

[–] peacepath@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You may trust a part of them without trusting them all.

Also, you may want to hide things to those you trust ; not only for your comfort, but sometimes to do not hurt them in a way that would be too hard for them at a random time.

And finally, you may want to hide some things from your boss and coworkers. They are close to you in your life, but not needingly your close friends.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

This is EXACTLY it.

[–] dimjim@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

I have my sound on, phone face up, idgaf about my grandmas recipes
