Uh... Lawns, "electoralism", meat, anything to do with parenting using consequences of any kind (sub discussions about spanking, withholding or taking away items or privileges, messing with your kids, and "I dIdnT AsK to bE BorN!"), separating the art from the artist, cars, intelligence and the fact that some people are in fact just dumb as a shoe (and the corollary "why don't they teach me how to do my taxes in school instead of Pythagorean theorem!"), ...

Idk there are lots of them.

Edit: ... But why do you want to know? Do you have something planned? ๐Ÿง

He said AI is good. Get him!

[โ€“] mesamunefire@piefed.social 10 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Its hilarious to me because my research decades back was AI. But not like AI LLMs haha. More for detecting cancer. So I am VERY opinionated and nuanced on the subject.

[โ€“] taiyang@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Your and my both. I use the term "machine learning" more now to differentiate what I do vs what people think AI is. Lol

[โ€“] mesamunefire@piefed.social 4 points 19 hours ago

Yes that would be closer...however even then theres SO much nuance on what kind of machine learning algorithms have been made last 30 years. Theres a lot of re-discovering old algorithms that are starting to get useful again like Multi-modal systems.

IDK of enough people agree with me to make this divisive but Lemmy is fairly homogenous and loads of users don't have a lot of life experience.

[โ€“] velma@sh.itjust.works 6 points 22 hours ago

You're absolutely correct.

[โ€“] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 15 points 22 hours ago (6 children)

Seemingly anything that suggests Americans might not all be dumb assholes.

Lots of good comments here. My favorite is parenting vs childfree groups. I've literally seen the communities back to back on my feed. It's mostly funny to me, a parent, because I agree with both communities and they aren't actually in opposition.

Second favorite are those guys who are all "THIS IS NOT A MEME GTFO" when someone posts a twit or tumbler post or what have you. Lol

Sexism/misogyny. Lemmings get really upset if you point it out.

[โ€“] stopforgettingit@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago (7 children)

This is legit but also I super appreciate coming in to the comment of a sexist post and already seeing a snarky comment about it being sexist. Makes my day.

Or that fourteen year olds can't consent to sex with an adult.

Metric vs. imperial seems to generate an awful lot of feelings.

Edit: Ah shit, here we goโ€ฆ

[โ€“] micgerne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I don't get why this is a divisive topic. We've got arbitrary nonsense units vs sensible easy to understand measurements, where's the debate?

Clearly my preferred system of measurement is superior.

I don't know two languages but being in the US means I am fluent in both metric and imperial.

Which Linux distro is the best.

/me hides in the corner now

[โ€“] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I think the days of caring about this are over.

Old and tired: which distro is best

New and fresh: which distros have the right policy on AI?

Steam is more consumer friendly than GoG because it offers Linux compatibility and lets the customer choose whether they want DRM.

All physical media also comes with a license.

Men are encouraged to be more in touch with their emotions, but aren't given a safe place to explore them. Men-only communities should be just as accepted as women-only communities.

"Yes, all black people" is just as valid an opinion as "yes, all men" for all of the same reasons.

The US is just as progressive as the rest of the world when it comes to trans athletes playing women's sports (no country allows trans athletes to compete in women's sports).

US gun control legislation has its roots in civil rights and class consciousness. Early gun control legislation was intended to directly target groups of marginalized people arming themselves against a tyrannical police force and that's still its main intent.

"Political violence" is passing laws that harm people, not punching someone because they voted for the other guy.

YouTube Premium. You will never get me to say that it is not the best deal in streaming.

Easily the best deal in streaming.

However, thats like saying Mercedes S-class is the best deal in luxury automobiles. I still cant afford one :D

Some hate on it because it's corporate.

I hate on it because I have a thing for the Anubis girl.

We are not the same. Lol

[โ€“] ReconciliationTime22128@sh.itjust.works 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Can you explain in more detail?

[โ€“] crandall@lemmy.today 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

There was a thread yesterday praising Cloudflare, half the comments were pro- and half were anti-, every one had tons of up and down votes.

Do you have a link? Iโ€™d like to see this

Mostly debates on leftism (typically anarchist or Marxist-Leninist) vs. Liberalism. This extends to debates where the conflict is sharpest, typically on views of China as an example.
