Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

ICE official, who was sleeping on man’s lawn and appeared ‘intoxicated’, faces felony charges, California police say

A 72-year-old man shot an off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official in California early on Friday morning after the “intoxicated and agitated” official assaulted him and his daughter on their property, local authorities allege.

The Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo, Fresno police said.

It was not immediately clear for how Gonzalez had been with ICE and what exactly he did for ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, referred all questions about Gonzalez to Fresno police.

How could they even tell he was off duty? He wasn't behaving any differently to when he's at work.

Maybe less tacti-cool gear?

[–] UpperBroccoli@feddit.org 16 points 2 days ago

Hope they don't get in trouble over this. Many HOAs frown upon disposing of garbage on your front lawn.

Oh no!
Well anyway...

"Gonzales" is a hell of a last name for a hired ethnic cleanser in California.

There’s likely a lot. In Texas here you see a ton of trucks with the punisher/blue line/trump wig stickers on their trucks with Hispanic men driving them. Completely disconnected from reality

I wounder how the police would have handled this if the homeowner name was Gonazels and the ICE agent name was William Baker.

Shout out to you for calling this “anti-immigrant campaign” what it is. I think the phrase Ethnic Cleansing needs to be permanently attached to ICE and the Trump Administration, and I wonder how many decades it’ll be before the media uses it.

I absolutely love the comments here. On cucked Reddit this would have been locked and nearly all comments deleted. I got permabanned there a couple days ago for going off on Russia and their stupid plague situation. Of course, I had previous bans, one of which was for wishing these Chinese kids, that killed those beloved village dogs a while ago, the absolute worst mob justice imaginable.

Anyway, fuck ICE, keep firing at the bastards.

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

all those in PA remember one thing. If you vote for Frank Pastella and the rest of the republicans, you vote to let Pastella rape your kids. Vote no to Republikkkans like Frank Pastella to keep their dicks outside of your children's bodies. even cucks should be smart enough to keep nazi dicks out of their children's bodies.

Shortly thereafter, the daughter’s boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, arrived and placed handcuffs on Gonzalez.

I guess luckily they had a police officer in the family? I can't help but feel like things would have gone quite differently if they didn't have relations with the local police force.

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 46 points 3 days ago (1 children)

100% it would have gone differently if they didn't have a police officer in the family lol

Yeah the blue line is wobbly on this one so whoever does cop optics first wins.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 163 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Faces felony charges, but the federal department he works for passed questions to the local authorities.

They dumped him on someone else to avoid accountability. Nice. Sounds like a Trump organization.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 84 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is best case scenario. Local investigation and charges. Otherwise the feds will block access to to evidence and just say everything was done according to the books

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 32 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

The agents last name is Gonzalez. The feds will immediately disown him or throw him under the bus.

It took a remarkably long time for one of these assholes to get shot at.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

At least they can't justify more violence with "they are shooting at us, we gotta shoot first to protect our little fragile egos!"

A shocking percentage of American gun owners put little effort into learning basic marksmanship.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Not that shocking tbh.

Many own a fun just to protect themselves from others that own guns

[–] ElDuderino@lemmus.org 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I naïvely thought that putting projectiles where you intend would be considered more important than larping or collecting.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

The idea of "larping" is that if they pull a gun on you, you pull one back, but with zero intention of either of you firing a bullet.

[–] ltxrtquq@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't know if you meant to type that, but it certainly works.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Don't bring a fun to a gun fight you lose !

I love this story. Good way to start the week.

Where is that Kylo Ren MORE animated gif?

More people should.

[–] CalemitousVariantK@lemmy.world 55 points 3 days ago (20 children)

It should be legal to shoot ice agents, on duty or off, particularly if they, as usual, are masked and not following police procedures. And if the man was afraid for his life, as he definitely should have been if an ice agent was involved, the precedent set by multiple high profile recent cases in other states is that it was legal. I hope that jury finds the same.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Honestly, since ICE agents don't provide any kind of id when asked, we shouldn't refer to them as ICE agents, because that's really unconfirmed. It would be more appropriate to say "masked man dressed as ICE agent", because we can't actually know that they're an official rather than a criminal in a costume. And obviously, the correct and rational response to being assaulted or harassed by someone in a mask is to treat them like a criminal, and defend yourself appropriately.

He's not a cop. He's got some self control, restraint and a general unwillingness to commit murder.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 45 points 3 days ago

I'd argue killing an ICE agent is closer to pest control.
