Vertical-drum washing machine? In 2026? You're gonna waste so much water...

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.
2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.
3. Avoid repetitive topics.
4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.
There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.
Some other communities to consider before posting:
5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.
6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

Why would you censor Goddam
Like Goddam man what in the goddam, just don't use the goddam word if you needed to goddam censor it.
This is posted in the wrong community.
Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience.
This is the height of my existence, though
I hope you got the extended warranty. Whirlpools are known to only last two or so years...
But, yes, those are quite nice.
I don't see any babies on that picture -- did you put them in the dryer already?
Oh my fucking god I'm so glad "goddamn" was censored!....
i can’t imagine what in the fuck christ i would have had to do if the word goddamn cam up in my scroll fest
I'm just here to figure out what that word was even supposed to be
Gorram. It's gorram.

You know dat’s right
Goassmn
This was the answer. I have no problem saying GODDAMN.
But that word you said, that word pisses me off
I've had bad experience with whirlpool. Hopefully they go well for you though
What have they done to you? We have a two year protection plan with my best buy card, we will see. Maybe they will break the repair man will just shit in it.
Not sure about them but I've an anecdote:
A few years back they had a batch of bad boards for washers across all their brands. Any of the cheaper/lower end models with the simple dial and five (or six?) green LED lights to indicate the current cycle. Specifically it was a bad pressure sensor for detecting fill level. It'd fail and then the washer would run the pump non-stop trying to expel water that wasn't there. Some folks ended up with burnt out pumps on top of the bad board as a result.
Our Amana failed in under a year. Whirlpool eventually put out a service bulletin about it and replacement boards would be provided free if a tech found them to be needed. The boards were backordered unobtanium and cost nearly the price of the washer so that DIY route was closed. It also meant techs probably wouldn't have new boards on their vans, so two service calls guaranteed. If I recall, the TSB didn't waive call-out/labor so once again we'd be looking at over half the cost of the machine even without paying for the board. I was livid.
Eventually I found a few YouTube repair videos, almost all of which pointed to someone who'd made a side gig out of the fiasco by hocking new sensors for $25 a pop. Guess they were the quickest and became the de facto source. So I ordered one, some wick and wire, and picked up my iron for the first time in years. It was ugly but the washer has been working ever since, no thanks to Whirlpool.
You can watch the wash through the door??
WANT
So I'm not the only on sitting on my bathroom floor watching the front-loading washing machine do its thing through the window. I find it mesmerizing and oddly meditative.
I do my laundry in the communal basement laundry room which has 3 washers. I despise the front loader that keeps getting stuck, so I use the top loaders, but I like watching other people's laundry slosh around. So I love the idea of a see-through top loader.
It was so cool. There's a toilet directly in front of it, too. So sometimes when I take a shit, I get done and then stand up and look at the clothes getting washed.
Don't get them mixed up.
Very cool, very 70s
Top loader, interesting choice. I didn't know they still made those.
Did you go for that because of space constraints in regards to a door?
Top loaders:
A. Tend to last longer.
B. Have less mechanical issues.
C. Able to handle larger loads (like quilts).
D. Cheaper to repair if needed.
E. MOST IMPORTANTLY: They drain completely so every load doesn't smell like shit.
E. Keep the door open on front loaders so it doesn't seal the moisture in and allow mould to grow.
Yah, I'm going to dispute C. I had toploaders all my life and then got a front. Now I can get sleeping bags and comforters in it whereas the top loader would just tear them up if I dared to put them in.
And honestly, the rest of your issues haven't seemed to have cropped up in the ten years I've had my front loader. But you may be right statistically. And if you leave the door open between loads, front loaders smell fine.
you can get top loaders with no central agitator
Hmm, that's changed, probably for the reason I didn't like them. Any that I ever had you couldn't. Good to know.
He's gonna miss that fresh mildew smell
Not OP, but less maintenance because fewer parts. Easier to unload for tall people. I have a hard time bending over, and squatting down to reach into the back of the dryer. Bending over to reach into the washer is easier.
That’s why you get a washtower. Machines are comfortable height, pull put shelves for your laundry basket and lots of extra storage space
I've got a similar space and have been considering ripping the shelf out, doing stacked appliances, and then like... different shelves that are easier to reach.
is that a vertical drum with no center thingy?
Some have no agitator.

I know. makes me so jelly.
Shiny.
It comes in and out. I have it off right now doing some linens. And OMG I feel so damn cool doing it! Then I will put it back in for normal laundry
til. I had no idea there was a convertable option. im actually going to tell my wife about this just after typing back because I think she is going to be as jazzed as I am.
Don't you mean "feel so d*** cool" 😮😒
HA. Fuck I forgot censor myself. Shit.
Got that vacuum attachment for the dryer lint trap yet?
I somehow did not know that was a thing. I will get one because thats a good thing to have!
I've had a washing machine just like that one. Absolutely loved it. My wife also loved doing large loads of laundry. I recommend buying replacement suspension rods for your model. It's very common for them to break, and it always happens at the worst possible time. But after you've spent an hour replacing one, the next one can be swapped in 5mins.
Are they an easy fix?
Yes. The drum has 4 rods with springs built in around it so a slightly imballanced load spins they catch and correct the weight. On my model you just compressed the spring and popped the rod into place. But the springs would occationally explode, or the rod would bend. If you notice the drum leaning one way or making funny noises, that's likely the problem.
The tough part on mine was figuring out how to open the top. It hinged up like a trash can, but you had to muscle it a bit and it was new and I didn't want to break it, so it took longer to open than it should have the first time.
There's a ton of youtube videos walking you through it step by step.
Knife sharp man
Congrats! Were you machineless prior or is this an upgrade?
Machineless for about two weeks.
Ours gave up the ghost. The house came with them and they lasted three years.
My whirlpool series 80 has 20 years and still cleans clothes just fine. The drain pump has been replaced twice (year five and year 15 maybe?) and the teeth in the agitator around year 19. May you get as many years out of yours as I have out of mine, and then some.
