Trump and key allies have accused Omar of immigration fraud, and have called to expel her from the country

Stupid title. CONGRESSWOMAN IS TARGETED AS PART OF A POLITICAL STUNT BY TRUMP ADMINISTRATION would be better. Her home was raided over supposed paperwork her father (who is DEAD BTW) filed when she was TWELVE. This isn't a criminal investigation, it's the gestapo fabricating excuses to denaturalize American citizens.

Trump in December accused her of having “married her brother” and said she “should be thrown the hell out of our country”, a reference to a years-old but unsubstantiated claim that Omar sought to help her ex-husband – who they allege is really her brother – obtain immigration papers via a sham marriage.

If only there was some kind of expectation that the president would be held to a standard of truth and dignity in the modern world.

“Guy who raped his own daughter accuses brown woman of marrying her brother”

November or bust people

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 10 points 5 days ago

Early voting has started or is starting. Do not wait for the fix to happen.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

Remember when they called him "presidential"? 🤣

[–] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 53 points 5 days ago (2 children)

But there was no crime. They did this bc they felt like it and the people who signed off on it should be held accountable. It’s so fucking gross.

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 17 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Hopefully the Dems get into power and they play by the same shitty playbook as the Trump admin and just constantly harass him and his family to the end of their days. Also, many members of his staff too. I hope they never get a moment's peace.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No, and not necessary. Democrats should pursue normal, legal justice.

Someone issued a warrant swearing there was sufficient evidence and some judge said “sounds good”. If there wasn’t, that’s a crime, that’s violating civil rights, and considering the blather from the administration, quite likely a racial hate crime.

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

In principle, I would agree, but that almost always ends up not resulting in proper justice, magnitude wise. These people don't deserve peace, ever. They deserve suffering, and justice never allows criminals to suffer.

Democrats need to set such a strong example that no one ever wants to try it again. Justice doesn't do this. Sadly. :(

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I agree that justice seems out of reach: many of the perpetrators are ultra wealthy who are apparently above the law. Even if Trump were prosecuted, he likely would be able to delay it beyond his remaining life

But these villains don’t act on their own. They’re supported by legions of opportunists who believe an evil sponsor makes them above the law as well. That’s where the opportunity lies. If those minions and those enriching themselves and those offering bribes face actual justice, maybe it will have a deterrent effect next time. It’s not justice but maybe the best opportunity to restore law and prevent the next attempt at tyranny

For the wealthy sponsors, perhaps the best opportunity is prosecuting bribery. While there have always been too many loopholes for the wealthy, they really seem to be getting careless with their bribes. It’s not good business when the dictator-wannabe won’t shut up about being bribed

But in this specific case, those directly responsible for false investigation and civil rights violations should be brought to justice …. In 2.5 years, since we know presidential pardons are for sale and they have no shame in who they pardon

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Or they just put them in prison for the plethora of crimes

[–] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd settle for getting to spit on his corpse Italian style

[–] Blade9732@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I prefer the other Italian style, Mussolini

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That'd be a lot of piss to wade through to add yours.

[–] eurodyne@piefed.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

not if I take a helicopter.

I'd like to piss on him from a helicopter

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Fuck, that does sound fun. I need to buy a helicopter and start chartering piss tours.

[–] eurodyne@piefed.world 1 points 4 days ago

not just fun. Patriotic

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

Like Ghislaine?

[–] Space_Cowboy92@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Best they can do is increased funding for ICE and a continuation of Trump policies. They really tried though, weawwy weawwy hard!

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

No, the next Democratic Congress is going to be all about selling us out to Israel, especially our military. Get ready to be called anti-Semitic for refusing to support a fascist, violent, genocidal nation.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'd rather the Dems rise above all of that shit and everyone starts adhering to the law again. We've had enough of this threat/fear activity by trump and his minions and it needs to go now. I wouldn't be offended if it ended by a huge group of good-hearted american patriots grabbing torches and pitchforks while a few are left behind heating up the tar and gathering lots and lots of feathers though.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago

I am all for the Dems playing Hard Ball, and prosecuting every MAGA for every CRIME. Not their politics, not their despicable opinions, just their crimes. NO IMMUNITY FOR ANYONE. Almost all of them have done illegal stuff and we should fully prosecute every single crime, no matter how small or insignificant, and then sentence them to the limits of the law, and force them to serve those sentences consecutively. The only break they get is concurrent sentences, and the only way they get concurrent sentences is if they cooperate, and turn on their accomplices.

We should also apply the 14th Amendment/ Sec 3, and prohibit anyone who supported the Insurrection from holding government office, and that includes anyone who said that Biden didn't win the 2020 election, or wouldn't answer the question during their approval hearings. That means nearly ALL of the current MAGAs in Congress would be out of a job.

So you feel the punishment for extreme cruelty to millions of Americans is year and feather? Created policies to kill Americans and execute them? Year and feather. Let millions die from vivid and lack of medical care, year and feather.

What are you, the DNC? You match your opponent and destroy them at their own game. Slaps on the wrist have never been adequate. No wonder Democrats are always taken advantage of. You're pussies.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Calm down. I'm somewhat sarcastic and sometimes forget to use the "slash ess". And it's "tar and feather". You can do better than name-calling though. To be fair, I'm not even sure I know what you're typing about.

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

I reread your comment and there isn't a hint of sarcasm in there. Yes, autocorrect is the bane of my existence, but I think you know exactly what I meant.

Telling me to calm down as I watch the public from the most powerful country in the world disillusion themselves by thinking just voting will work is insane. Open a history book and you'll see that fascism only ends in violence. The longer it goes, the more extreme the violence needed to end it. It's time to stop being naive and to see the world and it's people for what they are, not what they ought to be.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago

They knew there was no crime, the point was terrorism.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago

Someone’s name is on a warrant and some judge signed off. They can be brought to justice in 2.5 years

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 21 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Has she been charged with anything? What did the warrant say?

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

“Leading while brown.”

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago

"Just look at her!"

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

The only "criminal" aspect of this whole affair is probably the governmental abuse of the legal system to silence a critic.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

This Islamophobia shit only flies so far when you’re starting wars and blowing up the economy. I mean, it seems like it’s both accelerating and burning itself out. I think in the end this will only bolster her support.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

The Islamophobia will fly with his base no matter the amount or frequency. They love that shit. I've seen MAGA Christians invoke God against Islam, as if they're trying to ward off evil.

What it won't do is distract from the consequences of that other stuff if the consequences get big enough.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

How will we ever get to the point of treating g foreign nationals like people if we can’t even treat our own people like people? I hope she pursues this to the extent of the law

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago

The American Regime can't be Islamophobic, afterall, they are buying imported Iranian petroleum products from Russia.

[–] Space_Cowboy92@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

To anyone here hoping there will be some sort of accountability if/when Dems take back power, do I have a fucking bridge to sell you!

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago

Instead of telling them that you EXPECT them to betray us, and that you'll do nothing about it when they do, why not threaten them that you will treat them like MAGAs if they won't fight for us, and we will elect people who will investigate THEM, and put them in prison for their corruption/ malpractice/ fraud/ incompetence?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

These Traitor Pedophile MAGAs think this is their October Surprise that will convince Citizens to wake up to Democrat corruption, and embrace the MAGA future.
