Why are so many countries electing criminals? And why do they all seem to have the same agenda.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Russia buys the bots that influence people, and may be also hacking election infrastructure to boot.

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Capitalism overruling democracy.

Name a more iconic duo than far-right and Putin

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The ambiguously pedophile duo!?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

more like one in the same, since mister putty funds the far right all over the world, which also includes christian nationlism groups.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Of course she will, what else would you expect from a Putin sock puppet. The only news worth element here is that she is openly admitting it.

She is a traitor like her colleagues in other member states. Putting Russian interests above French interests.

Threatens to Cut Support for Ukraine if Elected

I am reading this as an easy instruction: Do not vote for her.

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately most will read it as "if I vote for her, no more money goes there and I get more of it".

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

nek minute, Russian drones in Paris

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

"He's hurting the wrong people"

"I voted for the ephemeral others to suffer based solely on my own vibes of hate and ignorance"

[–] gian@lemmy.grys.it 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You are right but the sad and harsh reality is that French people will vote who they think can solve their problems, not the problems of other countries.
Is it short-sighted ? Of course, but it also seems extremely logical.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What these people don't recognize is that if Ukraine stops impeding Russia, it will be their problem.

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

"yeah but not today" -some moron voting

[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 49 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Keeping Europe small and fragmented, so it is an easier target for the larger powers to play with. Somehow that's the single common thing all of these politicians all over Europe that like to call themselves 'patriotic' want to do.

Be it Le Pen in France, the AfD in Germany, ..., if all of these really were so great for us Europeans, how come they are so staunchly supported by our global adversaries in Moscow and Mar-a-Lago?

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Musk and Thiel are literally funding all of this. If one country had the balls to do what we are all thinking, it could help the whole world

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I met Thiel once briefly about a decade ago. The guy was a total cunt. I interacted with him for all of 10 seconds and he pissed me off to the point I wanted to punch him in the face... I truly regret not doing it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

he has a wierd obssesion with using young blood from his male model sidepieces(at least for the defenestrated one) apparently the side piece was causing problems for him and thiels husband, so he had "fallen out of a florida apartment building"

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Superpowers love smaller countries' nationalism.

Why yes, please do isolate yourself from your allies while shouting about national pride. How did you know I was hungry for another vassal state?

[–] SomeOneWithA_PC@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Correct and they all are conservative and right leaning. Even far right, similar to Nazis, no wonder they Support Naziism, so Russian current regime in the Kreml. Nothing too hard to understand.

[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Correct and they all are conservative and right leaning.

Tbf, the romanticised view towards Moscow / Beijing is something also found regularly on the left side of the spectrum. The passed on opposition towards Washington and "the Western World" is so engrained that they don't realise that the guy in Washington and the guy in Moscow meanwhile are happily holding hands, while Beijing (the "Moscow surrogate" after 1991) has left the spheres of socialism long ago and is becoming more capitalist and power-hungry by the minute.

None of these are our friends, none of these have our interest in mind, none of these want a striving, strong and independent Europe. Yet, a remarkably high portion of people here on the continent (on either side of the political spectrum) can only see us as the small, dependent fosterling of a "large power" and their whole debate is limited to whether that supervisor should sit west or east of us.

[–] SomeOneWithA_PC@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

also found regularly on the left side of the spectrum.

Like lunatics that in my point of view already fell of from what left should mean, or my understanding and position is the real middle which nowadays is already put into far left? Left is not anti-west, whatever "west" should mean as a unit (that actually doesn't exist).

I agree with your sentiment, especially the second paragraph. It's also not just left or right and you have to decide. We already have a lot of good rules written down and ratified by the majority of humanity and do not need to argue about basic human rights anymore. if you break them, that's bad and wrong, no matter where you stand and as what you call yourself. The best options we have so far is individual freedom restricted by sane rules, so law and democracy with a closely regulated free market. Nowadays infrastructure might be handled more like in a planned economy, so that part can become more "left" imho. Free elections would also be more sane and clear, if not a strong minority would be able to pay a lot to steer public opinion and media, as their expenditure for it makes sure they can get even more and not pay their fair share.

Still i understand why it is so easy to say and like other weak groups/minorities are the cause for the regular persons hardships.

Le Pen’s far right served as mouthpiece for the Kremlin, says French parliamentary report from 2023, and nothing has changed since ...

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 38 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Putin can't beat the Ukranians, but he can sure beat the weak in France (Le Pen), Germany (AfD), UK (Reform), Canada (Alberta), and US (Republican/Pedophile party).

[–] metermatic26@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Don’t forget the Netherlands…

We take the cake when it comes to right-wing extremist parties: PVV, FvD, BBB, JA21 and Project2029 (yeah, the latter isn’t a joke).

The first two are confirmed to have received funding from Russia and the first four advocate a pro-Russian stance on the Ukraine war.

Plenty of simpletons in the Netherlands.

[–] Akip@piefed.world 7 points 2 days ago

Didn't it all start with the FPÖ in Austria? I think they fit the list.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Social media is still allowed to mislead with impunity

[–] trebach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

If it makes you feel any better, the referendum question in Alberta on having another one about leaving Canada is expected to lose in a landslide.

Republicans will almost certainly lose their majority in the House and it's quite possible that they also will in the Senate.

[–] uzername@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

just so you know, LFI (France) are also playing the collabo card reagrding Russia and Mélanchon even considers Taiwan (and of course Tibet) to be a part of China.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They've been in open alliance for over a decade, there was never any doubt that would be the case. Putin bankrolled them back in like 2014 or something with a 8 figure loan.

[–] Miaou@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

IIRC it was "only" 7 million Euros. Though in rubles it likely has more digits.

Importantly, it became a loan because French courts ordered the Le Pen to pay the money back.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Oh thanks for the correction I had thought it was 17 actually but didn't look it back up.

[–] FrogCat@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if tankies cheer on Marine Le Pen for this policy alone.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Authoritarianism is kind of their thing

[–] oce@jlai.lu 10 points 2 days ago

I hope this political bet will make them lose support the same way their Frexit threat did a few years ago.

[–] anticurrent@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

According to a feb 2026 survery only 47% of French people agree to continuing military support for Ukraine.

And according to the recent presidential elections polls, the parties that advocate for a prompt end of the war and cutting military support to Ukraine account for 55% of the total intentions of the vote.

  • Marine le Pen : 34%

  • Melenchon: 15%

  • Fabien Roussel: 2.4%

  • Nicolas Dupont Aingan: 2.3%

In short you must brace for the reality that sentiment towards continual military support is turning against Ukraine, and in times of financial hardships people tends to favor their immediate interests rather than a hypothetical future threat.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Man this is unbelievably stupid. Imagine actively looking to help an openly hostile country only a few hundred miles away.

[–] anticurrent@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Maybe before calling people stupid get out of your confortable bubble and meet them where they are at:

  • According to the red cross, 11 million french people can't feed themselves properly and are skipping meals.

  • The number of uni students relying on food banks to feed themselves is close to a majority

  • Unemployment among the youth is at records high, never have the youth been disenfranchised about their future

  • This year is the second year in a series where purchasing power keeps shrinking, and the government can't subsidize salaries anymore

  • Because of the war in Ukraine, french defense spending is exploding and is expected to be double of that before the war, eating away from the budget that could otherwise be oriented to lifting salaries and improving social services

  • Tomorrow 17 Oct is the expected return of the Jillets Jaunes. Big Protests all over the country, with people of all walks of life to protest against the cost of living.

The list is way bigger and I know that most of your entitled opinions don't care about the realities of other people's lives. but your indignation won't change the realities of people's lives and them putting their interests first.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If they think that all of this is because of ukraine, then they are very stupid +1

[–] Miaou@jlai.lu 1 points 1 day ago

Lemmy can't comprehend that not everyone is a single issue voter.

[–] Kjell@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They do not think it is because of Ukraine, but the money France is spending on their defense and Ukraine could be spent on other things. If you feel that everything gets worse in your country while the leaders spend more and more on a foreign country, then the easy option is to support someone who wants to reduce that cost. In best case those billions can be used to help the French.

I do not agree with that, I think Europe should spend more money to help Ukraine, but I can see why some people are thinking like that.

[–] dreamkeeper@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

So all of this is somehow Ukraine's fault? Yeah no they're just stupid. Keep acting like letting Russia control 20% of the world's grain supply will somehow make your life better, idiot.

[–] anticurrent@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

When you have no counter arguments you resort to distorting my points. I didn't say it's ukraine's fault. Like I said you sure are not struggling, if your most important concern is who is in control of the world's 20% grain supply. Let's ask those people about who should be in control of that supply and see if it is one of the concerns as well.

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Does she not even see the protests that are ongoing in her own country? She's almost ready for the guillotine.

[–] gian@lemmy.grys.it 3 points 1 day ago

I don't think the protests are strictly against her... after all she and her parties are not in the government.

[–] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

She doesn't know what she is doing

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 17 points 2 days ago

Oh yes she does. Of all the fuckwits we have on the far right, she's probably the smartest, most of the others are moronic yes men.

[–] CAVOK@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think she does. I think she follows the bidding of her master, Vladimir Putin.

Edit: Correct pronouns, damn autocorrect.
