Why? To escape her and her policies?

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Brexit 2, the UK leaves the Earth altogether to defeat the small boats once and for all

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That is actually canonical in Dr Who. They call it Starship UK.

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

They have a robotic Suella Braverman that tries to shoot down the TARDIS. If a small boat is bigger on the inside, it still counts.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

and they leave by lobotomizing a star whale and building the new UK on its back as it swims through the stars

[–] Bromeliadventures@lemmy.world 139 points 3 days ago (7 children)

What's really frustrating about Liz Truss is she is too stupid to understand how stupid she is. If she could wrap her head around that, she might just shut up and we'd never have to hear from her again.

[–] limelight79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

She's definitely not the only politician in that predicament.

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

Dunning Kruger...

Yeah living conditions on Earth would be so vile that we'd go to Mars and leave her behind.

Bitch you couldn't outlast a cabbage.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

sounds like she just volunteered to be sent to Mars

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She can live there with Elon. $5 says they kill each other on the way there.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

so THAAAATS what happened to the crew of the Hail Mary

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you read the book that's actually the reason why they put them in medical comas. They feared they'd get cabin fever and kill each other on the trip.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Fuckin A. That makes sense.

I initially planned on reading it but I had already started The Captives War and I wasn't about to stop.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Yep. They'll be running that hard from her, indeed.

[–] GreyShuck@feddit.uk 64 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well, if the tories - and Truss particularly - had remained in power until then, I can imagine that a lot of people would be taking extreme measure to get away, so I can see her point.

If my granny had wheels, she'd be a shopping trolley

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I'm pretty sure she is right. Where else would Brits be safe from her incompetence?

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

She should romaine quiet on concepts she doesn't grasp.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You sunk her just like an iceberg.

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

That joke is a little gem, that is.

[–] sns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 3 days ago

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's ketamine.

[–] normanwall@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago

The lettuce was smarter

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

The PMs after David Cameron are only in it for the power to feed their own ego and not about governing, especially the Tory PMs. Kier Starmer was not a great Labour PM but he's less egotistical than his Tory counterparts. Andy Burnham appears to be more down to earth but only time will tell.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Make up for lost time and send her on a rocket into the sun.

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (6 children)

surprisingly hard thing to do ,

it turns out, aiming for the Sun without the rocket ultimately orbiting it is not easy at all

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

It's easier if you do it at night.

Also, it can be done, despite it being hard: https://science.nasa.gov/mission/parker-solar-probe/

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

good point, but still :

Parker will fly more than seven times closer to the Sun than any spacecraft. Over seven years, the spacecraft will complete 24 orbits around the Sun. At its closest approach, the spacecraft will come within about 3.9 million miles (6.2 million kilometers) of the Sun.

so it still orbits it, and won't get closer than 6 MILLION km

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We choose these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard.

The shooting Liz Truss to the sun initiative may be the only way for her to make a contribution to science.

I think this gal has a better chance at making it to Mars than Liz...

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

Lettuce consider the possibility.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

...and there would have been a chicken in every pot...

[–] stumu415@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

How did she become PM in the first place?

[–] Hux@lemmy.ml 14 points 3 days ago
[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

2040 even sounds ridiculous.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

IMHO most countries could still accomplish this. There's just no political will for it. Mars is worthless to most people before terraforming, and now we need to terraform Earth first. How can we expect to fix Mars if we can't stop ruining Earth?

[–] hraegsvelmir@ani.social 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

There's that, but also, looking at the sort of people pushing hardest for establishing Martian colonies, they are all the sort of folks who would tell you how you can be advancing humanity on another planet, then deduct the cost of your oxygen consumption from your paycheck, if not just cutting off the air supply if you happen to get a little uppity about "muh human rights" when they want you to work 16 hours a day for some dumb idea they had.
