1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

What does it say about the 'verse that the cat comment was necessary?

[–] krow@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago

Crazy way of saying your divorcing your cat

[–] guyoverthere123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

An internet search would have told you that cats aren't dishwasher safe.

No the cat is not my wife

I don't think anyone was under the impression you married a cat. I hope nobody thought that.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 10 hours ago

The MAGAs warned us about that when we did gay marriage. Cats are next, they said. Eating'em, fucking'em, MAGA is against it. MAGA be cat lovers.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

We don't judge here.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 10 points 22 hours ago

I wasn't even thinking that until he denied it up front, now I wonder.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 103 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Correct, cats are not dishwasher safe.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Not with that attitude.

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Doesn't stop my furry little jackasses from trying to climb into it every time the door is open.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

You got one of those too? I have an Orange that thinks he needs to inspect everything.

[–] SpikedIguana@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can avoid this by opening the fridge first

[–] in_my_honest_opinion@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jeepers get your feline ass off of lemmy and go catch those mice already!

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

He's on it already! His kill count is 2 so far this fall. I know they are his kills because he brings them to me and sets them on my desk. And a third claimed by his side kick who leaves them in the middle if the floor.

There is another one hiding under the freezer and they are actively hunting the last couple of days.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 2 points 17 hours ago

That's what happens when you let your cat fill your dishwasher

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would like to know more about this.

The cat, not the cookware.

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Her name is Valentina ans she is a good baby girl who demands pets from me at any chance she gets while she is awake

This her brother Blaze.

Their mom was found on the streets, and a friend of a friend fostered them as kittens. So we adopted them both from the shelter.

Mom went somewhere else. I believe she was abandoned because she was quite social.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I see she is a Queen of her Box cat.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 0 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Missing comma on the last sentence

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Your mom missed you in the last sentence.

But it doesn't matter. Your mom missing you in the last sentence does not define who you are today

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Your mom, missing you. In the last sentence; does not define. Who you are: Today?

Made That Worse For Ya

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 day ago

Are these aluminum? If so your other silverware and metal stuff in the same wash is provably sparkling. Its an old way of cleaning tarnished items like pennies or jewelry, you'd boil them on the stove with a loosly bunched up sheet of aluminum foil and add baking soda to the water. It transfers the removed compounds to the foil

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yea, typically aluminum pans will have their finish degraded by dishwasher detergents and the time they're exposed.

I have some cookie and baking trays like this. They still work fine, just don't look good.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Aluminium and acid don’t play well together.

[–] lemming741@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Dishwashing detergents are alkali, but aluminum doesn't play well with those either

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I play well with aluminum. It feels funny when I chew it with my molars.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Rinse aid is an acid. And most fancy dish pods will have an acid portion as well. I actually use straight citric acid as a cheap home made rinse aid.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk how long you’ve been doing it at this point but just FYI, citric acid will eat right through painted-on designs, even kiln-fired paints like for pint glasses and stuff.

If you have stuff you want to keep nice, like brewery pint glasses or whatever, immediately stip putting them in with citric acid. Run those seperately or wash by hand. It might already be too late if the top layer has been etched into, but maybe not.

I learned the hard way :(

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Even my $100/stem wine glasses go in the dishwasher. Still fine after 18 years. But, our dishwasher has a “wine glasses” setting, and is “recommended” by Riedel. Maybe doesn’t use the rinse aid, or very little, on that setting. Most commercial rinse aids are just mainly citric acid.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Most stuff is fine, its just paint. Like printed-on stuff. Idk what your wine glasses look like, or how whatever design they have was put on, but the paint used on stuff like pint glasses and travel mugs and the like gets eaten away by citric acid in a way that rinse aid never did. Possibly because the rinse aid acid is diluted with alcohol. Idk.

I use citric acid for hard water, so it’s possible you use less, was just offering a warning in case you care about your stuff like I do.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Ah, got it. Thanks for the heads up. It’s trial by fire at our house. If it can’t survive the dishwasher…..

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They do look like aluminum, but I’ve also had steel do that in the dishwasher.

Not stainless but I stopped using dishwasher tablets when they pitted some stainless

[–] rogsson@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is… is the cat still with us?

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Just about to post this to the cats sub, just took it :)

Aluminum pan thing that is supposed to hold stuff of some sort.

Idk my wife put stuff in it and I washed it and neither of us know the consequences

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

I don't think aluminum is good in the dishwasher in general. I've got some small aluminum pans I use in the toaster oven (since it works better than the shit developers/landlord special oven range that came with the place), and I put a couple of them through the diahwasher once and their finish is no longer as polished as it used to be.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

welcome to the dull dishes club

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would like to know the thoughts from the cat as well, I mean you and your wife had a say in these pans, why is the cat not consulted, or if they were why was their opinion discounted and not lodged on the internet as well.

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

I bet she said "dumbass" directly to me when she was meowing

[–] zoloftt@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Oh man, worst Discovery.

Open dishwasher, find ruined cups/pans/plates :(

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was going to say cats are generally not diswashwr safe

[–] forbiddencherry@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

Have you tested that theory? /j

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 0 points 22 hours ago

So you are saying you have some side pussy? Nice.
