Remember citizens, if you use Local LLMs then you're using COMMUNISM!

Be a good American and use cloud based LLMs! Give your data over to the people who need it most!

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 44 points 3 days ago (2 children)

and using your own brain is anarchism

[–] LeftReddit2@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

AND SATANIC AS WELL!

Do your duty! Use a machine for your thinking! Not your own brain!

I’d love to us a local LLM that runs fairly well on like an 10-12th gen i5 and 16 GB RAM.

Any suggestions?

Probably a smaller model of Gemma like Gemma 3n. I use a model of Gemma for my router though I forget which one specifically.

This campaign was so idiotic, of course i would download a fucking car if i could

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

It was idiotic, but not quite that way. It actually started with "You wouldn't steal a car." Then tried to pretend that downloading was the same as stealing.

"You wouldn't download a car," came from the sarcastic backlash to it.

Man, those anti-RAM ads are getting really mean.

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

You wouldn’t go to Sam Altman‘s house, open his door flip him on the floor, and take a giant shit on him and then leave him like that only for his grieving boyfriend to find him like that.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And then steal his RAM again.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If someone stole your RAM, dial 0118 999 881 999 119 725 … 3

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago

Now that's easy to remember

[–] gewitter29@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Why don't we steal ram from data centers?

[–] chungus_eater@lemmus.org 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

unfortunately most AI compute boards use SOCAMM which is an unusable form factor for consumers. :(

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

That is a solvable problem.

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

10 years, personal computing without a license will be illegal.in thr US. Mmw.

Dark future ahead.

[–] ggtdbz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

I have theories on this but I don’t think it’ll be as straightforward as you’re describing.

I think they’ll try to exploit software pseudo monopolies (specifically Microsoft Windows and Steam) to forcibly tie hardware to identities and make most widely used sharing platforms (mainstream social media) preserve much more tracking information on each piece of data.

I think we’ll see similar agreements and serial number registrations for things like GPUs as we’re seeing on 5090 sales in the US. I also think using Linux or other anonymous OSs will be treated like Graphene is already being treated as a suspicious sign.

I do think longer term there will be enough public revulsion to prevent this from happening too quickly and for the most part I don’t think the free software genie will ever go back into the bottle just because of how reliant everything is on it, but this can of course change. I genuinely believe Internet identity verification for basic things is extremely unpopular even with non techies and I’d like to think it’ll get repealed as a legal requirement in some places

Just bought another 32gb, meaning I'llhave 64gb in a pc i use to play stellaris and browser games. Because fuck Sam Altman

I would definitely download RAM.

[–] aSaabD00d@lemmy.today 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I miss the good old days when you could simply download more RAM

Anyone else remember?

[–] kossa@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago

I mean, technically you can have swap in the cloud. It's not fast, but it's there 😅.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

You wouldn't download RAM?! 😞

[–] NovaVeles@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Oh I am naughty... Might be using some RAM right now 😉

[–] RelativeArea1@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

man, that AI guy has the most retarded take just to keep/create value on their moneymaker.

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Please stop using people's disabilities as an insult. You're insulting the disabled more than the target of your insult.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

moneymaker

That isn't even making money.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago
