War. Having been in the Army, this is now why I'm anti-war. Nobody deserves that. Even if you're a League of Legends fan.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

This sentiment is a lot more common than you think. While it is true there's no atheists in the foxholes, most of us were christians who believed we were going to Hell. Like most of us saw ourselves as the bad guys. It was pretty uncommon for guys there to think they're good in any way.
We signed up for free college and now we're in Iraq... why? What did Iraq do to us? Why are they the 'bad guys' in any way when we attacked first?
My favorite dark joke when I got back from the sandbox was commenting that I went to war for cheap gas, and that's doubled in price.
Maybe more common than many think, but I know a lot of former servicemen. I struggle to think of one who has a positive perception of any of our military actions.
Nutty Putty. The answer is always Nutty Putty.
Was going to say this. Any of those cramped, cavernous places. Esp the ones that are underwater.
At the bottom of a flooded cave. Cave-divers can do everything right and still die in a hole.
Epstein's island.
Stuck fast, upside down in a narrow pass in a cave.
This is from a real incident, where someone perished. They were an expert caver.
I can't look up the story or read about it again.
My heart goes out to that person, their family and friends. Just one of the saddest events.
Gaza sounds pretty rough right now
I'd be terrified of being teleported to a super high, tiny area, like the side of a cliff or the edge of a skyscraper or radio tower something. Any wrong move means you fall to your death, and it's just a matter of time before you get tired enough to lose concentration for a brief second and...
I got a film for you:
Respectfully, Fuck. No.
I need to check my blood pressure after watching the trailer... I'm gonna go lay down. On the floor. In the basement.
Haha - I'm not even so bad with heights, but I physically recoiled from the screen the first time watching the trailer. I don't think I can watch the movie
If we're talking about Fall it's very corny! Enough silly shit happens that my palms were only sweaty half the time 😅
Ivy league frat house.
Just the regular bottom of the ocean as a bell diver for me.
Immediately downwind from a wildfire in a dense forest. At the bottom of an elevator shaft, which has no headroom built in when the car descends. Inside an industrial oven or cooking vat that's starting to heat up.
I dunno, there's a lot of places out there where you would die, and that are big enough to fit you. You just have to pick one where you'd have enough time to be scared, first.
A shipping container in remote Antarctica, with a cake iced with the name of your kidnapper. Sooner or later you gotta eat that cake and the only evidence of who put you in there.
You've probably got time to smear the kidnappers name in poop before your freeze to death. Failing that, drawing blood with which to write should be relatively simple.
“The wall just says ‘Kevin.’” “You heard the man! Round up all the Kevins!”
Trumps toilet bowl, surrounded by all thi gold opulence, like a Buddhist stupa and then all of a sudden...
Deep inside a crater on the Moon, with your oxygen slowly running out and with no means of escaping
Lost in a cave in the dark for me.
Cavedivers. Grrrr!
a noisy room in a hospital and all you can hear is the deafening sound of your child's final gasp for air. and then, nothing.
I would rather be flayed for eternity in hell than experience that.
that ocean gate sub as it starts its deep sea adventure~
Im still so sorry for that kid that got dragged down with his dad...
Your own brain.
You create the most scariest thoughts yourself.
Dumped at an indeterminate location in space.
Vac suit or no, its a location with no landmarks, no resources, no surfaces... nothing. Can't move, can't be seen, can't call for help, can't survive.
I guess, the only upside is no sharks. But those micro-meteroid showers would certainly leave ~~a mark~~ punctures through your body. Like a shark.
But since there’s no sound in a vacuum, you wouldn’t be able to hear the “DUUUHDUNT… DUUUHDUNT…” of the approaching micro-meteoroids. We’re gonna need a bigger spacesuit.
There's not much alive in the middle of the ocean. As in a desert, you're going to starve, dehydrate and die of exposure, but hey! You're not gonna get eaten alive!
I'm really not sure what place would be scary, but it would be the place where there's no hope whatsoever. I've survived some fucked up shit so my view of "hopeful" is rather wide.
