Mrs Justice Steyn threw out the case against Orbis Business Intelligence, a consultancy founded by former MI6 officer Christopher Steele, last month.

She found that Mr Trump's compensation claim was "bound to fail".

In a new ruling she also ordered Mr Trump to pay Orbis's costs "of the entire claim".

The order, obtained by the PA news agency on Thursday, also said Mr Trump has made no attempt to bring an appeal.

Mr Steele, who previously ran the Secret Intelligence Service's Russia desk, was the author of the so-called Steele dossier.

This included uncorroborated intelligence claims, denied by Mr Trump, that the former US president had been "compromised" by the Russian security service, the FSB.

This guy seems like a loser. Sure you want to run him, GOP?

Guess the fascism is more important to them.

[–] Pretzilla@lemmy.world 29 points 8 months ago

Don't forget the racism, bigotry, child rapey misogyny, et. al.

He's just a means to an end.

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 16 points 8 months ago

Not necessarily the fascism directly, but definitely the racism. The fascism is often a side effect of forcing a minority rule state behind a strongman so the followers can force their racist views to be accepted by the majority. It doesn't help that now have generational education deficits from decades of conservative undermining of the school systems that's manifesting itself in undereducated people being crushed by a capitalist system designed to extract maximal wealth from the public and those people being frustrated while their propaganda channels tell them it's all my the fault of minorities and liberals.

It's a real shitty stew we've brewed here. The confluence of ill education, crushing economics, and propaganda pointing us to fight each other for crumbs is really making our country into a sticky wicket.

I’m convinced more and more that the people who support him are jealous and wish to be him. They vote for him specifically because they wish they could act like he does. In reality, I think it means that many are actually terrible and selfish people.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

I think it’s a lot of narcissism for sure.

[–] nonailsleft@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

As long as he gets the votes, they get the boats

Trump sues someone, loses, wasted time and pays fine

Trump gets charged, loses, pays fine/legal penalties

Trump talks out of his ass, gets sued, loses court battle, pays the lawsuit

This is entertaining, more please, I want to see his life erode into a neverending cycle of paying out the people he's harmed and getting his time wasted with court cases until he finally dies

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 27 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Ultimately seeing his empire collapse while he’s still alive is the best punishment he can ever receive. It hits his narcissism and insecurity directly and in a way he can’t cover over.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago (2 children)

No, going to prison (death row, for treason) is the best punishment he can ever receive. Let's not take our eye off the ball here.

[–] hessenjunge@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 8 months ago

I’d love to see him in prison but not on death row. Instead of being executed he should enjoy a lengthy stay.

"We’re going to win so much, you’re going to get tired of winning." -- Donald J. Trump

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)

And his fans don't even remember or care if they do.

They are winning! This is just the Deep State!

I don't know how the "Deep State" beating Trump doesn't mean he's losing, but here we are...

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 40 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Just the fines he's got to pay should be enough to disqualify him as it's a huge corruption risk in itself (can't remember the exact term).

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 33 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Maybe we can get a Broadway musical out of Trump's failed lawsuits.

"Stormy And The Spy" sounds cute.

"The Tina Fey directed musical stars Jamie Fox as Trump..."

A really cool bit of Broadway history, from "Guys And Dolls."

I want that with three lawyers arguing three different reasons why he's not guilty.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago

"Told" to pay money?

He hasn't done what anyone else has told him to do since his father died.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 21 points 8 months ago

I hope he gets lots of kidney stones

The High Court [of Justice in England] was told last year that Mr Trump was bringing a data protection claim over two memos in the dossier which claimed he had taken part in "sex parties" in St Petersburg and engaged in "golden showers" with prostitutes in Moscow.

Mrs Justice Steyn said Orbis has estimated its costs to be more than £600,000.

She said £300,000 should be paid by Mr Trump before the total costs are decided by a specialist judge.

[–] lettruthout@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

Mrs Justice

That term looked like a typo. Some research just now taught me that, in fact, that's one way female judges may be formally addressed. Here's another...

High court judge is first to be formally addressed as Ms Justice

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

This is gorgeous.

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Oh yeah the golden shower with russians prostitutes, I'm sure Poutine has video of it

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

At this point I don't know why Trump would care. He has been proven to have done much worse. Let Putin release the pee-tape, the Trumpets won't care or will call it fake.

[–] elbarto777@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Plus who cares, really... in terms of sexual preferences, you like what you like. If you're not harming anyone, have a ball (heh.)

I'm sure Putin has way worse. I wouldn't be surprised if it's something like "here's some money. No, don't pay me back. I own you now and you can't get out. It would be a shame if you received some nerve gas agent in a package."

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Things keep getting worse for him.
