I disagree, it's a stupid quip that people use to justify the point at which they bow out of the hobby. Financial constraints are typically the driving factor here, let's not sugarcoat it. You could take away my nice gear and leave me with a pair of HE400i's and Truthear Zero's and I'd still love listening to music just the same. The difference between music and no music is too large to try and use a metric like this.

Fantastic app, I use it as well
It is foolish, you should just use your nice things. Sudden movements aren't going to damage your gear unless you yank them cable or have them fall off. Your Sundara were already on their way out if they died from "the slightest tug in the cable" and it was likely an easy fix with some soldering skills - not that it should be required to fix gear at this price range.

ZMF Co-Pilot Pad = 🔥
One would naturally assume that the 800s is a refinement of the sound of the 6X0 models but they have almost nothing in common. If you prefer the sound of your 660s you prefer the sound of your 660s and there's nothing wrong with that. You certainly aren't the first person to not be thrilled with the 800s.
It's hard to sort through all the hyperbole in this hobby, especially regarding things like soundstage. I just try to find sound signatures that personally excite me and ignore the voices that wax poetic about aspects of a piece of gear.
You won't be able to get the smell out, it's probably permeated the plastic. Either pick up smoking, learn to live with the smell or just charge the $20 to the game and move on.
What do you mean by "mud in the mids"? What EQ filters do you use to address this?
No gear is worth the exorbitant pricing that manufacturers ask so, like the other user, I stick to the used market. I've owned 5 different 64 audio models and I've liked them all for one reason or another. I love the apex system, venting, they use in their gear; this means that they tend to isolate less than other gear.
I haven't gotten around to trying the U4s yet but I owned the U12t's, U6t's, Nio's, Duo's, and currently the Tia Trio's. I don't recommend the Duo's, I've recently commented on them about why I think they fall short. The U6t's are just fantastic sounding, the Nio's are super versatile, and the U4s are very well received. They can all be had (used) under $1k and occasionally you can find the U12t's around $1k. You can find the U4s open box from retailers with warranty, for under $1k and while I haven't tried them, they seem like a no brainer if you're looking to get into 64 audio gear.
There's a lot of good gear by other manufacturers and 64 Audio certainly isn't the end all - their products just work well for me.
I had no idea that the Mirai was up on squig.link, as I said, I was just looking at the measurement on the product page hence my use of "vibes" and "ballpark." This in particular stood out from the product page; "The Mirai reduces the presence in the 3-4kHz range while introducing distinct peaks in the treble, especially around 10kHz and 15kHz. These specific frequencies play a pivotal role in enhancing the imaging performance of the IEMs." To paraphrase Precog speaking candidly he describes the Tia Trio's as having excellent imaging specifically because of the 1k recession (not present on the Mirai) and the series of treble peaks.
You are correct though, the FR isn't particularly close. I don't find his owning and praising of the U12t is any more relevant to this product than his selling of the U12t in lieu of the U4s though.
If you don't enjoy music on lesser gear then I feel sorry for you. The person that can't afford more than a pair of Truthear Zero's isn't enjoying their music any less than we are with a piece of high end kit.
This metric is meaningless and all purchase justification. You can afford high end gear so your calculus is completely different than say the person that isn't able to afford more than a pair of Hexas. You're here justifying your expensive gear with your concept of diminishing returns saying that you couldn't enjoy music with lesser gear and the person that stops at the blessing 3 will do exactly the same and say that anything more is a waste of money. People do this all the time on r/headphones.
I say this as a person that will always have at least a pair each of high end headphones and IEM's on hand.
