Khaki King! A beautiful piece. I've been eyeing this particular piece for years but haven't yet pulled the trigger; Hamilton is well known to be a great value for price, they punch above their weight and have a solid company history/reputation. You mentioned elsewhere that you are considering switching up the strap, definitely experiment! Mixing up straps can be a lot of fun.

Natos are fun, and you're also well situated if you want to go to bracelet-town the Hamilton ones are available and will work well with this piece. Wear it well, stranger.

Laco is great! Stowa is another brand that kills the no-frills flieger style. Would highly recommend.

Ok, I'm a speedmaster acolyte so it's REALLY hard to not insist that you go that way, but it seems like it's a bigger ticket purchase than you want to go for. Ok.

Have you looked at Stowa pilot's watches? Super legible, no-nonsense-all-business fliegers. Personally I have a soft spot for the no-logo models.

There's a whole range, the Klassik 40 might be a good place to start checking them out. Laco is another brand that makes some cool ones.

Right as I first got into the hobby I was lusting after Speedmasters. I had started with a Timex Intelligent Chronograph, picked up a Casio or two, got an Orient Ray II to get in the mechanical game. The allure of the Speedy haunted me, and as a compromise I looked at the Sinn 356 as a more reasonably priced alternative.

I know they're very different watches, but there was something about it that really spoke to me. I eventually got myself a Speedy and it was great, but the appeal of the Sinn never left. There's something about the no-bullshit, old school vibe in that boringness you describe that I really like. I get the appeal of design flourishes and color sometimes, but other times I just want a cartoon version of a watch. They really remind me of the cockpit of a piston engine fighter plane. I love it.

Damn, I haven't looked much into Steinhart's stuff but this one is hawt. On the list it goes.

If you like the look and care about the actual functionality, (and it wouldn't insult great grandma!) the Casio World Time is like 20 bucks on Amazon.

It's a nice old school beater; I had one for years and it's kind of like a poor man's G Shock. Would recommend.
