That's true, duplicate copies of the same book is perhaps the main pain on bookwyrm right now. On the other hand it also feels like a problem that devs must be aware of and are actively trying to figure out a solution for.

Goodreads is perhaps the best example of enshittification imo. It's only good now as a way to track your reading lists.

I tried bookwyrm today and it feels quite polished already, like giving you a guided tour of it's features. Hopefully it takes off as well similar to mastodon and lemmy.

An article on why Meta entering the fediverse is not necessarily a good thing.

That's great to hear

With a fresh new start we have the power to enforce some unspoken etiquettes on the site in the hopes of a better platform than Reddit.

One great feature I see no one talking about is that we can write our own text when posting links, which is extremely useful for communities that mostly link articles. A lot of the political and tech related articles are mostly fluff, filled with jargon and clickbait only to have a one line news at the end of it all.

We should try to make it a habit to write the main point(s) that the article is making to avoid misinformation and ragebait titles. Ideally, a post without any text backing the article would become a red flag that it's posted by some bot or mass spammer, and would not be floated to the front page.

Interested to hear what the rest of the Lemmy community thinks!

Wow even if admins take over that subreddit, such a big subreddit will surely create a snowball of many more subreddits doing it.

I don't see reddit ever recovering from this (They'll not die, but things won't be the same)

Lemmy and kbin are different things which work on the same backend and are part of the fediverse. Similar to how mastodon is fediverse counterpart of Twitter, lemmy is fediverse counterpart of Reddit, and kbin is a unique thing which is more akin to old school blogging sites.

While the other recommendation in the thread are good, I think they are hard to implement things that will take time.

A quick fix solution can be to add a button on join-lemmy which says something like 'Confused on where to join? click to join a recommended instance' that redirects to the sign-up of one of the recommended instances (there is already a list).

This will allow for load balancing and easier time for people to just come and join.

He really sounds like 'fuck it I'll just improvise and get this shit over with' from his answers.

Is there a link where I can see the mastodon numbers? New to fediverse and interested in knowing whats happening with mastodon.

He mentioned in his post he isn't interesting in doing that and is instead focusing on his 2nd app. Sad but understandable
