Rules:

- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

I hate to burst anybody’s bubble but we’ve seen these exact headlines for decades. It’s become increasingly clear that those who can make a real difference with climate change are not interested in doing so.
We’re already irreversibly fucked as a planet.
No matter how irreversibly fucked we are, we can and will continue to get even more fucked every second we don't change our habits.
Not yet. There’s still hope.

LOL, they might have been the first generation to really start doing the work on sounding the alarm, ironically.
Their parents and grandparents were likely even worse as far as this kind of attitude. I know that was the truth in my immediate family, anyway.
What actions are being taken though - by the people who can actually make a difference? Governments are reversing to mining coal. Trump is illegally drilling Greenland for oil. Like, what actions are actually being taken for our great grandchildren?
Many scientists say it's too late. That's my point.
It’s too late to meet our target, allegedly the point where we can avoid serious disruptions. We’ve failed to prevent harm to ourselves and can’t take it back
But there’s so much more serious harm looming that can still be avoided. We can still keep it from getting worse
There’s so much truth in that cartoon, yet it’s still coming true. Renewable and storage are revolutionary and many parts of the global economic system are restructuring. We’re late and slow but it is happening.
Except in the US. We not only threw away several chances at restructuring our economy to profit from it, but we’re working on turning several of our remaining industrial giants irrelevant, all while somehow thinking it’s a good idea to maximize our impact on the environment
Sure, I bet we can keep it from getting worse. I'll be here waiting patiently for some billionaire corpo to decide to do something for the environment over profits while we keep using our paper straws. I might nod off so wake me up when it happens.
Lies. It’s gone.
The planet has gone through numerous climate shifts, mass migrations, and extinction level events.
It's not what's fucked. We're fucked. The planet will keep spinning.
Even then, humanity is incredibly robust as a species. We'll have human descendants running around on the planet for a million more years. This pain we're setting up will be directly inflicted on the next two or three generations, as the global population evolves in the face of sever resource constraints.
We're looking at a highly acute crisis, geologically speaking.
We're talking about human-accelerated climate change here. We're not talking about naturally-occurring events.
Yeah... Humans survived the last ice age. And that was with extremely limited technology, and a lot fewer of us to start with.
Extreme climate change might kill a lot of humans, but some of us will find a way to survive it. How much of our culture, civilization, and technology will survive to come out the other side is another question.
