A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

If you could only use one lens for the rest of time what would it be?

This is what I tell people. I would take the reach of f4 over the speed of a 2.8 most of the time.

It can do great portraits if you know how to stage people against backgrounds to force bokeh. It'll never be as creamy, but honestly if you're shooting portraits lower than 3.2 you can miss so many shots due to focus.

If I had to choose ONE lens, this would be it.

I've been using the Tamron 28-200mm 2.8-5.6 and it's a great all-rounder/vacation lens. This from also owning a 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 lenses.

That thing is the size of 70-200

And triple the cost. I'd rather have 3 $1000 lenses but that is the best answer to the question I've seen.

So expensive. And so big. I'll stick with the Canon EF 24-105II f4..

When on earth did this come out?

I mean, Tamron has the 17-70mm APSC 2.8 which is 24-105 on FF.
