A fast 35mm (or 23mm on crop).

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.
400mm f2.8
Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2 Nikon F mount.
How does this compare to a 50mm or 30mm 1.8? Besides the obvious focal distance.
Shooting mostly sports and sports related imagery I would have to say my 70-200mm 2.8
35mm f2.0 on my DSLR
or 105 F2.0 on my Pentax 6x7
Although I love love the 55mm F1.7 on the Fujifilm GFX IIs
Is it the Canon 35mm f2 IS?
Xf 23mm f2. Small light good image quality and I like the focal length
35mm f2.0 on my DSLR
or 105 F2.0 on my Pentax 6x7
Although I love love the 55mm F1.7 on the Fujifilm GFX IIs
Jena sonnar 135mm
With changing formats and mounts there really isn’t one, but I always come back to fast 50 and 135 primes. Canon L or Sony GM equivalent.
Olympus 40-150 f2.8 Pro. Not quite an all-purpose, but love the range and the character when you run it wide open.
Laowa 100mm 2x macro. If the 60mm 2x was manufactured with an automatic shutter I'd switch to that.
The 85mm laowa macro is awetoo
I switched from Nikon to Canon a couple years ago. Bought RF lenses, where before I had regular 1.8 prime lenses. I splurged, and one of the lenses I bought is the 85mm 1.2 which is hands down one of the sharpest lenses I've ever seen, and at 1.2 gives a sort of medium format look to portraits. I'll have this as long as I'm on the RF system.
Nikon af-s 58mm 1.4 G. I wish Nikon made this lens native for Z mount.
Oooh this lens is beautiful. What’s your favorite picture taken with it?
Viltrox 75mm 1.2
Only one? Of what I own? 50mm f1.2
Of what's currently available for my system? 28-70 f2
Though what is interesting is that if I am able to have multiple lenses that completely eliminates my desire for the 28-70. Too heavy for a single lens.
the one that's already my go-to lens most of the time - the Sigma 18-300mm f3,5-6,3.
not the fastest, not the sharpest, i know, but i love it.
Same but the Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G, and for the same reasons. It's not the best at anything but it's good at everything.
Noct-NIKKOR 58mm f/1.2 AI-S
Definitely going with my a Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8. Super sharp, great AF.
Like a lens that I own? Or would have to buy? Or like I can just pick any lens to use for the rest of time at no cost to me?
This is tough... im gonna have to give multiple answers lol.
- For a DSLR and currently I own it - Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G
- For a mirrorless and currently I own it - Zeiss Planar 50mm f/2
- Any lense at no cost to me - Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95
This has been kind of an interesting thought experiment for me honestly. I primarily enjoy shooting wildlife photography... so its interesting to see that it this scenario id effectively give it up all together for the sake of having a more all around lens. Yea... I could keep a 70-200mm f/2.8.. but thats just kinda not long enough for wildlife photography and not a low enough f-stop for portraits for my taste.
Kodak 178mm 2.5 Aero Ektar
500 f4 & 1.4x. I will get the birds.
28mm or a 50mm equivalent
nikkor 135mm f3.5 Ais 7 years of professional photography as my main lens ( i only have 3 ) the best portrait lens of the Nikon line-up - i have a 28mm f3.5 Ai and a 50mm f1.8 Ai but the 135mm is the one i will never let go ...
Mamiya Press 100mm f/2.8.
Assuming the use of 120/220 on 6x7 or 6x9 back - it has a fantastic drawing. Loved proofing on Polaroid - pulling the pack out and peeling off the print. Always bright, clear, and colorful.
I use 24 f1.2 75% of the time, 135 f2 24% of the time, and 24-70 f2.8 1% of the time.
If I had to only use one lens it would probably have to be a 35 f1.4, which I don’t currently have.
24-70 for me right now. I mostly shoot concerts.
Viltrox 27mm 1.2.
No question. Hasn't left my camera since I bought it.
I just bought a tamron 70-180 2.8 and honestly it's a contender. It's the same size/weight as a 24-70 (way smaller and lighter than a 70-200) and I am a sucker for a long lens. I love it so much.
28mm for fashion and editorial
Full frame 35mm equivalent on a medium format camera.
35mm Summicron.
I’ve got a 35mm 1.4f prime. That thing goes with me everywhere.
Even if it strongly reduce pic opportunities I’d probably go for The 50mm f1.8
Obviously this is NOT an advice for anybody
EF100-400mm MK2. It lives on my camera 90% of the time.
Nikon 1.4 105 mm.
Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 AF-D. Without a shadow of a doubt
Canon compact macro 50 2.5
I know it'a not everyone's favourite but I'd choose the 24-105
This is what I tell people. I would take the reach of f4 over the speed of a 2.8 most of the time.
It can do great portraits if you know how to stage people against backgrounds to force bokeh. It'll never be as creamy, but honestly if you're shooting portraits lower than 3.2 you can miss so many shots due to focus.
If I had to choose ONE lens, this would be it.
