I know it'a not everyone's favourite but I'd choose the 24-105

This is what I tell people. I would take the reach of f4 over the speed of a 2.8 most of the time.

I've been using the Tamron 28-200mm 2.8-5.6 and it's a great all-rounder/vacation lens. This from also owning a 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 lenses.
