The Republican National Committee’s chief counsel Charlie Spies has resigned two months after accepting the position.

Spies’ departure follows weeks of growing tension with RNC officials, a source familiar with the situation told CNN. His hiring rankled many Donald Trump loyalists who viewed the veteran Republican lawyer as at odds with the former president, given his previous work for Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney and Ron DeSantis.

Trump originally approved of the hiring, one source told CNN, but sources said the former president was angered after his allies pointed to clips of Spies criticizing the false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

Of all the people to leave your organization as soon as they join, counsel looks really bad

This is the “real men wear diapers” shirt crowd, we’re talking about.

Do you think I could get away with showing up to a Trump rally acting like I was wearing such a shirt unironically? Do you think we could normalize shitting your pants in public?

Interviewer to attendee: "Will you shit your pants live on camera for Trump? Will you prove your dedication to Trump?"

That would do fuck all for us today, but we'd be doing such a big favor to future high school history teachers. Everyone would pay attention to the Trump era, laughing their asses off.

100% yes to both of your questions. These fucktards can’t string together three neurons.

"real men wear stars 'n stripes diapers"

Having an accountant "nope out" as soon as they get a look at the books is also a bad sign.

“Charlie approached RNC chief of staff Chris LaCivita about potential time commitment conflicts and it was agreed that while we appreciate and value Charlie’s expertise and professionalism he could not do this role full time and still maintain the obligations to his law firm practice that he has spent years successfully building,” Alvarez said.

That's a strange way to say, "If I held this job, I'd have to stop practicing law."

Dude made the smart choice.

I am starting to think this job is only available to Trump's twitter followers.

Pretty much. The RNC belongs to Herr von Shitzenpantz.

I really hope that nickname catches on, but I'm not sure enough people know about it.

previous work for Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney and Ron DeSantis.

This lawyer clearly has a sixth sense for detecting failures. Probably a good sign that he accepted a position with Trump's RNC.

I've been hoping for a full on war between Trump's people and mainstream GOP since 2015.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 19 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Does the "mainstream GOP" of 2015 even exist anymore? With the RNC now stacked with Trump loyalists, it does not appear so, outside of a handful of "former" something or others who make the Sunday talk show circuit. Seems to me the war has already been fought and decided

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Mainstream GOP are now Democrat voters, tbh.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

They really aren't. There are tons of "mainstream" Republicans who wouldn't dream of voting for a Democrat. The only exception to that, for some of them, has been when Trump is on the ballot, but we've seen them fall in line time and again down ballot.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

Trump people ARE the mainstream GOP. It's literally a fascist party with a few paleoconservatives and libertarians hanging on until they either feel rich enough to quit or become fascists themselves.

[–] djsoren19@yiffit.net 8 points 6 months ago

You'll never get one, that's not usually how these movements go. The MAGAts will continue cannibalizing the GOP's corpse until there's nothing left. All the people crazy enough to support DJT will continue to gain power and prestige within the Republican community, and everyone with a brain will slowly be pushed out until they're an independent.

[–] Granite@kbin.social 4 points 6 months ago

And yet, we keep being disappointed

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 20 points 6 months ago

Charlie Spies

Putin isn't even trying these days...

Trump just announced the new chief counsel is Dewey, Cheetum & Howe. They previously represented the Car Talk guys and this year expect to finally pass the bar after their 40th attempt.

“I’m stepping down after eight weeks to spend more time with my ~~family~~ law practice” said the lawyer who totally didn’t just get fired by a demented rapist sitting on the toilet.

Later, the lawyer pledged his undying fealty to the shitting demented rapist.

Mmm, the schadenfreude is delicious.
