"Now, who wants to draw straws to rip the duct tape off of Carrie?"

All the straws were the same length so they declared all are the rightful winners.
They went to work right after the (studio mandated) cocaine break.

[slight cough]

trekcore.com is a useful resource.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I did a Google image search. Silly me.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

The site doesn't have every frame, but most moments that one might want to use. Bare in mind, since there's no HD transfer of DS9 or VOY, you're just as well off on image search.

Ha ha, I just remembered that I go to that website for LCARS sound clips to customize stuff in my phone.

[–] essell@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

And now I'll be doing that later today!

Sorry, for the quality. It was the only screenshot I’ve found. In this shot from “Man of the People”, you can clearly see the dress/nightgown Marina Sirtis is wearing is highlighting her nipples.

FYI, Sirtis has stated in interview(s?) that she was aware that she was the sex symbol for the show.

Poor woman I remember in one interview she mentioned the outfit they gave her (up until Jellico made Troi start wearing a uniform) was so fitted that she couldn't gain a single pound.

I feel like what they did with Jerri Ryan was worse. At least for Deanna, it was in character.

Seven was a well-written character, but the wardrobe choices still infuriated me. That is probably one thing PIC got right.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 28 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Not as bad as Jolene Blalock.

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I haven't watched ENT yet, but I indeed have heard things about T'Pol.

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 26 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There were a lot of scenes where characters, generally including T'Pol, would get "decontaminated" which meant rubbing each other down in their underwear.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Don’t forget that Connor Trinneer had to spend one entire episode in their underwear.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago

Enterprise was just a hornier show in general. There was that one episode where the crew were locked in their rooms (I think the Ferengi happened?) and Hoshi had to crawl through a vent, and she fell out of the vent and this somehow tore her shirt off so Malcolm opens the door to find her topless. Why did that have to happen? Geordi LaForge and Data didn't get shirtless anywhere near as often as Trip Tucker and Malcolm Reed do.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

There's only one episode where they stretch the scene for an uncomfortable amount of time and have her and Trip really rub each other (as far as I remember).

Edit: The scene https://youtu.be/O4J9UDw6oiA

[–] IggyTheSmidge@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 months ago

I saw an early screening of that episode at a post-con event at a Star Trek pub in London.

When that scene came on a ripple of 'FFS - really‽' laughter went round the room, just because of how blatant it was.

I don't know, would you rather spend 4 entire years in bone tight fetish outfits too tight to sit down in and 4 inch heels, or 4 years in a relatively sensible jumpsuit or a jacket/pants ensemble but you have to peel to your undies and share a bottle of baby oil with a male castmate for 3 minutes?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Dude, T’Pol’s uniform was also a skintight catsuit. It’s like all the downsides of 7 plus the glitter oil.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is the outfit in question, which strikes me as more modest than any of Troi's various jumpsuits. The neckline is less open, the material is more substantial, and it doesn't really seem to fit much tighter than average women's clothing. I don't believe this outfit has a built-in corset the way Seven's catsuits did. I'm speaking as a man, here: If you gave me the choice between Seven's or T'Pol's costume, I'd choose T'Pol's. I'd look hilariously stupid in both but I think T'Pols suit would hurt less.

[–] TheFerrango@lemmings.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

At least Blalock didn’t faint because her costume prevented her from breathing

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

That’s both impressive and an incredibly low bar.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Yeah from Both Drone to Socially Awkward Catsuit Lady seemed silly. Especially in a show with powerful women (e.g. as captain and as chief engineer).

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 32 points 3 months ago

Once again: Jellico was the hero the Enterprise needed, not the one it wanted.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

She was in a couple Cannon company explotation films in her early career. She has thanked the show for getting her out of that explicitly abusive part of the industry.

[–] Chuymatt@beehaw.org 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’ll be honest, I never saw the appeal. I enjoyed her character interactions, but she was not my thing.

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Right? Like not green skinned enough.

[–] Chuymatt@beehaw.org 4 points 3 months ago

A forehead ridge hits the spot.

They made her wear a unique low-cut purple spandex suit for the first half of the series.

In the first season she was the only member of the main cast who wore the minidress variant of the uniform. Like they tried to bring forward the gogo dresses that Uhura, Rand and Chapel wore in TOS, and in an attempt by a Silent Generation geezer to be progressive and/or justify Marina Sirtis having her legs out, they had a few male extras wear the minidress uniform in the background as well.

Second to ~5th season she wore a collection of spandex jumpsuits, ranging from lilac to maroon but I also remember a green one that had kind of a flowy skirt to it. Then they used the whole THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS episode as an excuse to have her wear a uniform. Sirtis was pushing for Troi to wear a standard Starfleet uniform, and having Captain Jellico awkwardly order her to was how they solved the problem in-universe.

I personally would have either written her as a civilian contractor, putting her in the same community as Keiko, Guinan or Mott, OR I would have put her in a uniform with a coat like Dr. Crusher since Troi was the ship's psychologist, we don't really see this but she should report to Crusher the way Barkley reports to LaForge.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I wonder if any actresses were ever unaware of that role when they played it?

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 27 points 3 months ago (2 children)

seems like one of those "won't be visible on a consumer tv" things

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 13 points 3 months ago

At least not in 1992.

[–] Barx@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

The low resolution will blur out all hint of anatomy, don't worry

[–] jodanlime@midwest.social 17 points 3 months ago

Damn. I might need to start watching Star Trek.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 15 points 3 months ago

I didn’t 👀

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Star Trek always had the better plot.

How could you forget?! Wardrobe stuck Troi into just a handful of memorably revealing outfits over those seven years.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago

That episode was a defining moment in my childhood

[–] Batman@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Sometimes I think the future is bleak and nothing good with happen again. Then star trek shows me that there is hope, for... Humanity or something, yeah.
