I have kids ages 4-7 and they quite like watching a little snippet of something while they brush their teeth.

One thing they have been into recently is these stop motion videos on youtube on a channel called Peapea. However, it's obvious that M&Ms and Coke give them lots of money because it's all you see in many of the videos. But these are good videos, as the kids like them and while the full youtube videos are 30 mins long, within this there are lots of shorts only a few minutes long each. Perfect for bushing teeth. Also a bonus is those videos don't rely on sound, so they can watch and understand it without telling each other to brush queiter.

Does anyone have suggestions for anything similar that isn't plastered with Cocacola and is suitable for the 4-7 age range?

Morph - plasticine people

Red & Blue - plasticine duo

AEIOU - sand art, violin players

The Blue Marble : a one marble path chain reaction (and similar marble runs)

Kapla collapse, or Kapla domino - sticks constructed and deconstructed

Marble race vids

'Thomas Train set' videos - real life train sets

We've had lots of fun watching these.

Remembered another one, I like these farm animal videos from Robert Höck

Ah nice, will see how the kids like the animals, though they get to see plenty of real life animals.

They Might Be Giants have some kids’ albums for which they also made music videos.

The band OK Go also has some fun videos that kids would enjoy and couple kid songs videos.

Ooh I like that suggestion. They would probably love the OK Go ones. I'll have a look at They Might Be Giants music videos too. Thanks!

Puffin Rock episodes are 20 minutes

Charlie’s Colorforms City episodes are 14-25 minutes

Word Party episodes are 13 minutes

Number Blocks episodes are 5 minutes each

How’s It’s Made have 3-4 shorts in each 20 minute episode, so each clip is about 5 minutes long

Music videos are usually about three minutes long

How It's Made fucking slaps and I wouldn't hesitate to show it to kids that age.

Fuck man, I fucking love me some How It's Made.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, this is exactly what my little kid says.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 3 points 3 weeks ago

I'm imagining your little kid saying "How It’s Made fucking slaps" 🤣

Puffin Rock is great, and those 20 minutes are split into 3 episodes. Number Blocks is also nice an has a killer intro song.

Plus Puffin Rock is narrated by:

Storybots is a great one. Fairly educational and some of the songs are genuinely good. There are both shorter videos on YouTube and long form episodes available.

Thanks I'll check it out!

Bluey is great for that age, I can't recommend it enough. For brushing teeth maybe Bluey shorts?

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There are Bluey shorts?! We've watched a fair amount of Bluey episodes, didn't know there were shorts. I'll look into it, thanks!

We use the little mole for brushing teeth, but our kid is a bit younger. However, I don't remember a time in my life where I would not enjoy that little fella. You have videos from 5 (most) to 30 minutes (2) on youtube. There is no speech too.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Great, thanks, I'll check it out!

The Disney plus app has lots of shorts if you have that. We’ve done the spidey and his amazing friends, Winnie the Pooh, and Bluey. There’s lots more on there, even like Cars and Frozen ones

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks, will check it out!

I loved the 1940s Superman cartoon as a kid. they are about 10 minutes each and don't have dialog. just music and sound effects. Totally still hold up.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ooh I'll see what I can find, thanks for the suggestion!

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They are public domain now and on YouTube!

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oh nice! I have quite the list of things to work through now.
