"A Maryland Republican who leads a right-wing coalition in Congress says North Carolina’s legislature should consider awarding Electoral College votes to former President Donald Trump before citizens’ votes are counted, according to Politico.

Rep. Andy Harris, the chairman of the Freedom Caucus, made the comments at a dinner on Thursday, saying the idea “makes a lot of sense” because the western part of the state, a rural area where Trump is popular, is still dealing with the impact of Hurricane Helene."

“It’s profoundly antidemocratic to take the right to vote for president away from the people,” said Justin Levitt, a professor at Loyola Law School who worked for the Department of Justice under Barack Obama and as a voting rights advisor for Joe Biden. “It seems like an idea prompted by panic, rather than allowing the people to express their voice.”

There's no panic. It's just an opportunistic lie to remove any chance of Harris winning. Cause they're fucking liars and cheaters.

The number of people still giving the fascists benefit of the doubt when they should fucking know better is too damn high!

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Especially the fucking news.

They cover those trump rallies like they are fun parties. Then are sure to repeat all of his lies. It's ridiculous. The news every night is like "such and such happens. Then trump said...." As if what he says is equally as important as what actually happened.

They reported on him trying to overturn the last election live on every single network then just continue to cover him like that never happened. Infuriating

If you ever find yourself advocating against voting deciding elections in favor of your own personal opinion trumping all others, you might just be a fascist. Of course, he'd probably take that as a complement.

I mean we could take the honest route and try to give people there ways to vote even with the conditions they're in...or we can just use them as a crisis for political gain. Which would a Republican do? Oh, I see.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Give everybody mail in ballots and drop boxes so all votes get counted...

Oh, wait...

[–] Tower@lemm.ee 12 points 2 weeks ago

Just have to watch the drop boxes to make sure no one lights them on fire.

And I want to retire at 38 and marry Aubrey Plaza. Fuck off, clown.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Even suggesting this should mean he never works in politics again as it is clearly illegal and against the will of the people. But we know that's never gonna fucking happen since the Republicans love to ignore our electoral structure when they don't like it.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago

What's with all you people always making things about politics every time a politician says something politically alarming? Can't you see it was a joke or not that big of a deal or not meant to upset people?

Why would you threaten a politician's career just because they were threatening to sabotage an election by leveraging the current chaos due to lacking resources after a natural disaster? You know, the chaos caused by insufficient disaster relief funds after people like Andy Harris forced approval of lower than necessary funds.

\s except for that last sentence. Fuck this unqualified asshole.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

Ooh, they're scared.

They know....the presidential lotto is rigged! We think that if we take our pick for president and it matches whatever the actual electors in the electoral college pick, then we win! But it's actually just whoever the electoral college picks. It's not like a thousand ants turning the steering wheel in a car. It's like a thousand ants turning the steering wheel in a car that's riding on a train.

Subverting the will of the people "makes a lot of sense" says fascist from another state.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This is so absurd I can’t even be witty about it.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Nazis kill humor, we don't let them win.

Go to darker places :D

"When we Repubs deliberately block voters from voting the nation must accept those results. But if that same thing happens because of a climate disaster we must reject those results. Unless the climate disaster hits a blue area, in which case we must accept the results."

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Any excuse to impose their Christo fascist agenda and put their orange fuerer on the throne

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

That’s not very freedom of them

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If someone was smart they would have asked the 101st to dust off the old 2003 Iraqi voting procedures. They're there and they have that knowledge base squirreled away somewhere. But no, instead we're just going to assume things.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's early, I misread that as 501st and thought "what are bunch of stormtroopers going to do about it? Order 66 the guy?"

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I mean... Don't get the actual 501st excited. :)
