If you watch the clip he's only caught off-guard that the audience didn't even wait for a punchline; he clearly isn't totally surprised that people support him at all

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 21 points 16 hours ago

He doesn't want to get fired for being right like Norm Macdonald did for making OJ Simpson jokes.

Please share with every New Yorker for no particular reason:

it seems like colin or his script was under pressure to not say anything that showed any support. that is definitely censorship.
i don't think he would have said anything shocking. but still.. he said nothing.

The richy-richy-richersons don't understand. And Colin is rich from his partner's wealthy lifestyle work.

They just don't get it. I am against the murder as much as I am against the murder of abortion doctors.

But if you have had this system sitting on your head for any amount of time ...

Cowardly Attack

Everyone knows that it takes real bravery to simple die while waiting for your lawsuit against your insurance company to process. /s

[–] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Someone needs to mock up some time person of the year images with luigi on the cover.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 24 points 20 hours ago

I saw one here on Lemmy a couple days ago.

Found it:

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

That is why I kinda loath all these rich asshats. The totally don't get why we think the guy did a service to humanity.

[–] crimsonpoodle@pawb.social 63 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is so dumb—watch the video! The whole joke was that “Bumble exploded”—would someone who didn’t know Luigi Mangione is popular make that joke?

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

The joke was a bit strange, was it supposed to be that people are thirsty for him? I didn't get the punchline

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Note that for Weekend Update, Colin Jost and Michael Che write the jokes for each other, and they don't see them until they're reading them live.

[–] bss03@infosec.pub 13 points 21 hours ago

The joke swap is a frequent feature, but it's not a universal property of Weekend Update.

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought they only swap jokes on the last episode of the season, which this one was

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 1 points 20 hours ago

Maybe? That's what I've seen in all the clips, so maybe those are the only funny ones that get shared.

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 159 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He appeared shocked because he's joking about being shocked, which often includes "appearing shocked."

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 162 points 1 day ago

shocked

Omg huffpo, that wasn't shocked. That was Jost knowing exactly what would happen.

They got me with their clickbait this time 😢

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 53 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The hero we deserve is pretty popular. Who woulda thought. I do not advocate his method. I simply like that people feel represented.

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 9 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Stop saying you don’t advocate it. There is seriously nothing wrong with killing people who hurt other people, especially for profit. There is nothing wrong with advocating for their death, after literally everything else has failed.

I really hope this becomes as frequent as school shootings. Maybe those school shooters will find a more appropriate way to vent whatever that crap is.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 12 hours ago

I don't want to get banned or have my post removed. I say the words that help prevent that from happening. I may say different words when I'm in private spaces.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I disagree. I think it's perfectly fine to be against the death penalty, which is basically what this was, minus the judicial process.

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

So what do you think should happen to people who kill people through policy and are not ever going to be prosecuted? Those people will never get justice, but you seem to be fine with that?

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not fine with it personally. I think bad people at the very least need to be kept in check.

I do think that being against the death penalty is a valid opinion. "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" and such.

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 3 points 16 hours ago

So let people indirectly kill people for profit while doing nothing because you’re too moral to poke their eye out?

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would never advocate his method as a first option, but it’s not like the healthcare companies just now started hurting people. Lots of people over lots of time, eventually that distills into one shot of very strong liquor

[–] CallateCoyote@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yep. How many decades are people supposed to wait while they see that their votes never get them any sort of change no matter which of the two corporatist parties who take money from that industry are in charge? If voting and protesting doesn’t work, what option is left?

At least Mangione did something, and he did it at great personal sacrifice.

I do advocate his methods. I hope he inspires many more heroes. I hope 2025 is the year of many more dead parasites.

[–] bss03@infosec.pub 1 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I think your post might be illegal speech in most of the U.S. as inciting violence. Take care of yourself.

[–] CallateCoyote@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Oh… seems I totally made some typos in that last post. I totally meant to say I do not condone this super cool guy’s actions, and obviously who doesn’t want to see a bunch of dead parasites. Nobody likes bedbugs and tapeworms.

[–] leanleft@lemmy.ml 2 points 20 hours ago

the chilling effect on freespeech is awful.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 73 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

This is the same SNL that invited Elon Musk to host only 3 years ago.

[–] garretble@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago

And trump before that.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago

You're wooing for justice, right?

Yes they are, Colin. Yes they are.

[–] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The first video was a response from the police maybe? Calling anyone who defended his murder as vile. Am I vile for thinking that the leader of a corporation that chooses to deny life saving care for share holders dying is a good thing for the lives of many? Maybe it's not a proper societal action... Barbaric even... But why don't they say the same thing when it's someone's loved one who is being denied care? Or, better yet, the tens of thousands who have been denied?

lol at police calling anyone else vile
