Summary

Donald Trump’s second inauguration drew an estimated 24.6 million television viewers, the lowest audience for a presidential inauguration since Barack Obama’s second in 2013.

Viewership declined compared to Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration (33.8 million) and Trump’s first in 2017 (30.6 million).

I didn't watch a single minute and I didn't give a single shit about the coverage of it.

Democrats should've followed AOC and not even attended.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago

Yeah my sister was shocked that the I didn't even watch the highlight reels. Cause I just don't want to see that fuck. I'm going to be hearing about him and his batshit schemes for the next 4 years and I just don't want to fucking deal with it right now.

[–] hark@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

I didn't watch it but I still heard all about it.

[–] dx1@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Anyone else notice how political participation has been reduced to a consumption activity and pulling a lever to the left or the right? It's almost like there's a great big spectacle, and we're all just hypnotized by the spectacle, and it's alienated us from our surroundings and reality into mere spectators and automatons neutered from having an effect on our material conditions. Somebody should write a book about that, named something like, "Society of the Spectacle".

The Democrats handed him power on a golden platter.

What's smaller? His audience or what's in his pants?

[–] socsa@piefed.social 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I actually unplugged the TVs in the gym

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago
[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Why the fuck were they on that channel?

[–] Halosheep@lemm.ee 19 points 1 day ago (3 children)

My local gym had all the tvs near the treadmills set to various political news entertainment stations (fox, CNN, etc.).

I typically sat in front of fox and let the ragebait fuel my running. It's interesting how emotions can make you exercise better.

[–] dx1@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

That doesn't sound healthy.

[–] amitflesgtearer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Man I listened to RATM for my entire run yesterday and I knocked a full minute off my 5k time because it got me so fired up. Definitely related to everything in the news.

I skimmed it on YouTube, enough to see grandpavict nodding off at his own event, if he can't be bothered to tune in, why the fuck would i?

I watched it but mostly to witness the oath and was sickened the whole time. How much of the audience was like me I wonder.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 109 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Anyone else not only not watch, but actively avoided any possibility of even catching a glimpse of it?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago

I tried. It was the Nazi salute that broke through for me. I just couldn't ignore it... I didn't actually see it until watching the rerun of Monday's Daily Show last night, but I saw the still shots.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 43 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

If I hear his droning groggly voice going off about some fake shit, I usually snap and tell whoever to shut that shit off. It’s unbearable. The guy sounds how I imagine anyone would after a 40+ years of Quarter Pounders and Diet Coke, he’s probably way over his fair share in carbon emissions from his diet alone.

I thought I could tolerate reading quotes of him but it’s a mess every time. Whatever schools he attended failed him greatly.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I feel like I'm being mansplained to by the stupidest man in existence. Which works since apparently Trump's executive order makes me a woman now.

I would rather smear human shit in my eyes than watch it.

I tried, but couldn't avoid seeing a specific two seconds of it...

I saw that shit on Disney plus.
Immediately cancelled my sub.
Kids can have Bluey from the warships on the ocean 🦜☠️.

I'd like to support content creators. They work hard, deliver their dream. And early on, a large delivery network is desirable! But if that provider enshitifies beyond my threshold, they are dead to me.

So set sail!

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago

Hulu advertised this today. Like... What the fuck? How much did the oompa loopa pay you, Disney? They know we don't want to watch this.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I saw that shit on Disney plus.

What, and I mean this will all my soul, the actual fuck?

I don't give a single wet shit who the president is, why in the chocolate covered fuck is a streaming media content platform pushing that shit? Really glad I never gave them any money, and the subscription we had always a friend's.

Is that a malnourished child's hand?

So the numbers are actually quite a bit lower. All news agencies fluff their numbers, until tax time.

[–] easydnesto@sh.itjust.works 102 points 1 day ago

The fact that it’s streaming on Disney+, while not surprising, is disgusting.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 20 points 1 day ago (13 children)

We watched just to see if we needed to throw the bug-out bag in the car and go.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey just a word of advice, if shit hits the fan unless there is an immediate threat its generally better to stay in place. Even if folks dont know you they may know of ypur car, house, general sounds and what not which will possibly make them more likely to offer aid if needed. Also folks are gonna be a lot more wary of outsiders in times of trouble.

Don't worry, trump will lie about this too

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

In his last term Traitorapist Trump told 30800 lies. Which is 20-25 lies per day every day.

Trump literally thinks that dishonesty is a virtue. Another 30000+ lies are coming your way.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

More proof that biden fucked up by running. People don't want this but given the options they'll fuck shit up, I guess.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I didn’t know it was on Disney+. That’s interesting. It really shows how the TV landscape is shifting away from broadcast.

Fuck Trump, but I think it sorta makes sense for the new “networks” to carry live events like this as we move to all-digital.

Back in the day, when over the air was the main option, it was good that things like this were put in front of people. I still think things like this should be put in front of people.

And I’ll reiterate: fuck Trump.
