LMAO. are they seroius?!!!!!!!

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Doesn't look serious, but it is funny!

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 27 points 5 hours ago

Sure, some may say it’s absurd, but masturbation inspector is a good paying, high quality American job that cannot be exported overseas, and not a job I’d trust to AI.

That state senator is a visionary!

If the Democrats aren't going to be useful, I'm glad they've at least decided to be a little funny.

[–] Hominy_Hank@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

It's a race to the bottom now. And the Republicans have a huge head start. Dems are nosediving to catch up.

From erection to resurrection?

I recommend the battle beast cover! It just sounds so much better to me with noora singing the lyrics

To highlight how absolutely stupid this bill is, it sounds like it would outlaw menstruation and nocturnal emissions.

Land of the free.

Edit: it sounds like this is intentionally facetious to point out the absurdity of other pro-life bills.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 42 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (3 children)

I would love to outlaw menstruation too but my fucking body won't listen to me

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 3 points 1 hour ago

It respects the law.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

Careful, that post could be used against you in the court of law!

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Didn't you hear? Our bodies answer directly to the government now

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 39 points 9 hours ago

Yes, correct, it is as absurd as pro-life ideas.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 14 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

so it's looking to ban masturbation in mississippi.

[–] Kyrrrr@mander.xyz 12 points 7 hours ago

Nah, edging is still legal

[–] MidRomney@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Wouldn't this make more sense as "conception"?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Not if you understand what satire is.

[–] dontpanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

To be fair, the article doesn’t give his party affiliation and if you’re just scrollin’ on by this sounds like it could easily be from a RWNJ who believes masturbation and sex for funsies are sins and the bible should be law. Wikipedia says he’s a dem; I know nothing about him but the quote from him doesn’t read to me as ‘every sperm is sacred.’ Then again it is Mississippi so before reading the actual bill I was only 51% sure it was satire.

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 8 points 7 hours ago

Cue the cast of Monty Python singing, ”Every sperm is sacred...."

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 41 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

I didn't see the party of the politician in the article, so no idea if it is written in jest or just regular old Republican whackiness.

The most entertaining part is that it is written as applying to men, but as written it is gender neutral and would penalize menstruation.

Edit: It is a Dem having a lark.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

i'm afraid that the fascists would take the bill up and actually vote to ban masturbation. especially the bible thumpers.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

There are a number of active laws that were rendered unconditional by Lawrence v. Texas. In addition to the anti-sodomy laws, this invalidated most laws restricting sex toys.

Lawrence was explicitly called out as being on the chopping block in the Jackson decision, so these are slated for a comeback. The only real limitation is that SCOTUS needs a case, and the challenger needs to show standing.

[–] BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com 12 points 7 hours ago

This is taking No Nut November to a whole new level

[–] Breadhax0r@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

This could absolutely be used to keep prisoners in prison, and also probably criminalize gay men.

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 11 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Life began about a billion years ago and it's a continuous, ongoing process.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 5 hours ago

3.5 billion, give or take a few years. There's some evidence life goes back to 4 billion years, but it's not as well-attested as 3.5.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 13 points 8 hours ago

Good! We need to STOP KILLING KIDS (unless it's with Gun Control!)! Wait a Democrat wrote this? Just kidding this is STUPID!

[–] brosaph@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

With the last exception being for sex while using contracteption, what's the point of this bill?

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 32 points 9 hours ago

It's facetious, but the GOP won't get it.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Culture war idiocy. That’s it.

Edit: Merp, the bill is actually satire. It’s an actual bill, filed in an actual legislature, but the person who filed it is a Democrat, and it’s pretty obvious it’s intentionally worded to be absolutely absurd (coming from a Democrat, to be clear, because I’d take them at their word if a Nationalist Christian wrote it).

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It is Mississippi, what did you expect? Mississippi is one of the core Southern states.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Well, I kind of expected people to click the link to know why he filed it :(

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

..... So is he trolling or what?

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 hours ago

He's screwing with conservatives, yes.
