Timeline:

Jan 20 - Federal Aviation Administration Director fired.

Jan. 21 - Air Traffic Controller hiring frozen

Jan. 22 - Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded

Jan. 28 - Buyout/retirement demand sent to existing employees

Jan. 29 - first American mid-air collision in 16 years

By golly, Trump is actually correct. Someone with severe intellectual disabilities did fuck us over.

And once again, Trump controlled the conversation, and all the actual evidence is out there window for most people.

It would be awesome if there was an unspoken “don’t feed the troll” understanding among journalists, influencers, mods, forum commenters, everyone. When Trump says something outrageously stupid, just… briefly acknowledge it, and then ignore it and proceed as usual. Like he doesn’t exist.

That’s a narcissist’s worst fear.

Sure, he'd bounce around in the conservative echo chamber, but at least he wouldn’t pull more people in.

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Amazes me that after the initial COVID response and just his entire public life, that anyone seems surprised that Trump is not the kind of person that should be making speeches about somber and serious subjects.

Let alone be in charge of the response to them, but that ship has sailed.

He should work a shift as an air traffic controller so that people can understand he's just a regular guy like they are.

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 hour ago

People are already suffering and dying because of him, let's not make it any easier for him to take lives.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 25 points 3 hours ago

He's talking about himself

[–] Tramort@programming.dev 25 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Please bring another slander lawsuit against him

[–] aquinteros@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

yeah, he is god emperor immune... that's a waste of time

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

At the very least it’s another fact that will join him down into history. It’s not enough that he’s the worst president ever, we can tank his stats so no one ever comes close

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 38 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

"We may never find out what caused this terrible tragedy, but rest assured that a minority was involved."

[–] IhaveCrabs111@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

I agree with trumps sentiment. Old, fat, stupid, senile people should not be in positions that need to make critical decisions.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 16 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

And Trump knows best, he has all the listed conditions himself.

[–] Ronno@feddit.nl 6 points 4 hours ago

In some way, it also symbolizes what he is doing to the country. His plane is just a bit bigger.

[–] meathorse@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Next time AF1 goes for a jaunt to pedo-island, the air traffic controllers that trump is insulting have an opportunity to become really American heroes...

[–] Zron@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

It would be great if every ATC suddenly denied Air Force 1 take off clearance because they “need a little extra time to ensure the president’s safety”

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 26 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

More correct headline:

Trump yet again lies by making up rambling story about imaginary people causing an airliner crash before the dead bodies have gone cold

Airplane crashes a lot of times are very complicated with a lot of important factors leading up to the crash. This, combined with usually complete carnage and destruction, makes it that typical investigations take weeks, months, sometimes years.

Even if trump had been able to form a coherent message about the cause of this crash it would have been bullshit because never in the history of aviation did we know for certain what the cause of a crash was within 16 hours of a crash. It's. That. Simple.

Then again, this is trump, and no investigation will be made because this will become the official reason, the end

[–] bane_killgrind@slrpnk.net 12 points 8 hours ago

Trump yet again lies by making up rambling story about imaginary people

You could have said the same thing about the eating dogs and cats diatribe.

He's lampshading the next groups he's going to round up. I bet there's going to be an expansion of mental health intake and transfers of the "criminal" insane to the new camps that are getting opened up.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

He blamed it on DEI and NTSB ex chief said he did more to degrade the safety they’ve built than anyone in 40 years

[–] SuperCub@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 hours ago

Yes, he blamed DEI and specifically said it was due to the FAA hiring people with mental and physical disabilities.

[–] AliasAKA@lemmy.world 39 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

So he blames himself? Refreshing change of pace there.

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

There is a good chance this was caused in large part by Trump and his enshitification efforts. Right now the entire federal workforce is demoralized by various actions of Traitorapist Trump, degrading the quality of government across all levels. Air traffic controllers are part of the federal workforce. They were also short staffed, which in itself was likely cause by the poor morale. Blaming the hiring of minorities makes no sense given that a big part of the problem was not enough staff.

Trump knows this and knows that other people will make that connection too, and so him blaming this on DEI was his way of deflect the blame away from his rapid enshitification of government.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

It's amazing how well this works on n his base.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 54 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

He doesn't actually care who or what is responsible as long as he can tell people it isn't him.

If he had half a brain he would just say investigations are ongoing whenever asked.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 27 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

If he had half a brain he would just say investigations are ongoing whenever asked.

No because the plan is to blame literally everything that goes wrong on minorities.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

You mean it's another of those trans illegal immigrants that escaped from an asylum that worked in an airport control tower in between all the pillaging and raping? It's crazy, how many are there of those anyway?

Report is that one ATC was doing the work that's supposed to be done by two, due to staffing shortages.

[–] Odd_so_Star_so_Odd@lemmy.world 1 points 25 minutes ago

That together with the fact that people have been warning about this accident waiting to happen ever since the airport was built.

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 227 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

He's going to use this as an excuse to repeal the Americans with Disabilities Act. I'm calling it.

[–] perviouslyiner@lemmy.world 99 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Nostradamus [Belle] two days ago:

"If they keep the details quiet [of the recent closed-door meeting], you'll be able to tell what they're going after [in the budget] by listening to their rhetoric".

"They'll start scapegoating a demographic, to try and prime the [voter] base to accept their cuts."

(e.g.) "If they start talking about able-bodied people, it's Medicaid."

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 51 points 16 hours ago

it's in project 2025

Why's he gotta bad talk the president like that.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 84 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Its like he goes out of his way to project.

Have you ever noticed how absolutely fixated this guy is on assigning people mental issues?

I am officially upgrading that from 🤔 to Ominous.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

That might indicate that he recently was informed that he has dementia and that it's incurable.

Or maybe he wants all his political opponents and critics declared insane so he can have them tortured with outdated treatments like lobotomies and endless rounds of ECT.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 178 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Sounds like a good description of the guy who just tried to fire the entire FAA.

So he’s accepting personal responsibility?

severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, or other mental or physical conditions

So trump is confirming his numerous physical and mental deficiencies?

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago

Projection is always a confession with Trump.
