I think KP actually has one of the, if not the best chance in the NBA at shutting down Wemby this season when they face each other.

When you think about it , he’s only 1 in shorter. Yes his wingspan is 6 inches shorter but KP jump really high, he has a max touch of over 12 foot. I don’t think Wemby release point is that much higher than 12 foot.

Also KP is barely slower and less agile than Wemby. I don’t think Wemby has enough good handles to beat him off the dribble. He’s also way stronger than Wemby so he can’t back him in the post.

I know KP’s injuries have hindered his athleticism but I don’t know if it’s that much. I still think he has the explosiveness and agility to guard him, I might be mistaken tho.

If not, do you think pre-injuries KP would have been his defensive nightmare?

Tatum, bam, lebron, kawhi (if healthy).

You want physically strong guys in the 6-8/6-10 range who can push him around.

Wemby's 7'4" but he may as well be 6'4" because he doesn't have a post game and relies on shitty jump shots. Put Grant Williams on him and he won't even sniff the paint.

That's pretty much my plan on Thursday

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Love to hear it JKidd. Let that freak shoot all the jumpers he wants and we'll see what kind of stomach Pop has for it. Loved your game growing up bro.

Literally anyone can get past Bol Bol by just not moving in a straight line.

[–] ajteitel@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Whichever players do best defending KD will do best defending Wemby. Being tall and lanky, his dribble will always be something to exploit. And physical pressure, which to be fair can work on anyone who doesn't have that instant burst speed.

No way, cliff maybe, but not Chris

KP isn’t as mobile as wemby and has a shorter wingspan. He might trouble him but I wouldn’t call him the ideal Wemby defender

[–] lxshadynastyxl@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yea but like also basically every player in the NBA currently will have a shorter wingspan than Wemby, that’s kinda a meaningless argument

[–] LoveMavs1031@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fair but I think his mobility is the main sticking point. I could see Wemby beating KP and good amount.

JJJ, Giannis, or Mobley

I think Giannis will be one of the best to defend him.

[–] mfsauceboy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Yet they’ll end up putting Lopez on him

[–] troypow32@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Maybe the new coach will be smarter than Bud

Giannis never wants the smoke

Weakside Defensive Player of the Year 😎

[–] MorryD@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Strange comment since the Spurs are already posturing to do the exact same thing with Wemby

[–] dont-YOLO-ragequit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Never duck smoke Pat, Never duck smoke.

[–] darkest__timeline@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think it's more that he can get into foul trouble easily when he's the primary defender

[–] drmr623@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Gianni’s is and excellent team defender, but we gotta stop pretending hell go check another player one one. AD would be the better option.

[–] dys0n_giddey@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My pick: Jaden McDaniels

[–] referee-superfan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think that guy in mavs practice with the simulated longer arms is gonna clamp wembanyama.

[–] fuzzygypsy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

JJJ or Bol Bol more likely best equipped defenders to put on him

[–] SoKrat3s@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Mo Bamba disrespect

[–] StefonDiggsHS@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

no Wemby is going to be a 4. Spurs are going to park him at the perimeter in their set plays.

[–] ILikeAllThings@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I agree Porzingis is a good height to challenge Wembanyama on his straight up shot or near the rim if Wembanyama is off balance. Maybe Jackson can do some things as well with his weight advantage. But, Wembanyama's handles make him one of the most obvious double teams in the NBA because you don't want him to sit there on a one v one and shoot over his defender all day with that slight fade and get comfortable. Good defensive teams will attempt ball denial when he doesn't have the ball and when he does, most players will stunt toward him since NBA players are fast as hell and there should be enough time to strip him on his rim attacks. Once he learns consistently how to do that Giannis one step from the three point line, it will be harder, but I eventually think teams will adopt a Giannis like defense against him, and let him shoot from range(since he can shoot over everyone anyway).

I don't agree Porzingis is just a bit slower and less agile that Wembanyama. This guy has a crazy handle for his height and can cut back and forth pretty easily, Porzingis never had that. Porzingis is definitely more a straight line to the basket player versus NBA talent.

[–] muddyklux@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I previously imagined him bouncing of Steven Adams. Get well Kiwi

[–] _Pho-Dac-Biet_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Jordan Poole

[–] Dangerous_Toe_5482@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly I think Jayson Tatum would be really good against Wemby. Tatum is historically great defending KD because of his strength speed and length

[–] wrongerontheinternet@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is best defended by guys like Draymond who can keep up with him, put him off balance, deny the ball, prevent him from getting to the rim, and have good defensive instincts so they're not overhelping and leaving other guys open. Big seven footers are usually just too slow for him, and he can generally still shoot over them due to his height and wingspan (even Porzingis is a couple of inches shorter in reality, and has much shorter arms).

KP isn’t the best defender for anybody

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Aaron Gordon. Looney did a solid job on Wemby, he didn't really do much in the halfcourt offensively at all. Strong, long guys who have mobility are gonna give Wemby issues in the halfcourt because as we saw in preseason he doesn't yet outside of a lob have a truly reliable play to turn to in the halfcourt offensively.

Some of that to me being the continued growth of Sochan as a lead ballhandler and overall the Spurs finding their footing chemistry wise with Wemby.

We’ll see by the end of the season who is the best.

[–] armandocalvinisius@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You will see on opening night

[–] unclehelpful@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don’t think a Kicked Penis is the right way to defend anyone.

I blame Draymond and Dillon Brooks for this,

[–] Panik_Switch@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

AD is my answer. Mobile enough and good enough 1v1 to bother him enough from getting to his spots. You’re not really gonna contest his shots so keeping him from his spots is your only option.

[–] RecalcitrantDuck@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

For some reason it’s still gonna be Dort/Smart

[–] JKaro@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't think it'd be super sustainable to guard his release point. I feel like teams are instead gonna put wings who can swipe the ball while he's handling it or bringing it up.

[–] Thimit22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm curious to see Jaden McDaniels on him
