I haven’t talked about it with my social circles but I would be surprised if nobody I know is on here.

I met up with some guys (and gals) from !ich_iel@feddit.org at the Chaos Communication Congress in December. They also took a group photo together that I unfortunately missed.
Some people in my local Hackerspace also use Lemmy. One of them was Admin on feddit.de before it shut down.
If you have a Hackerspace where you live, there is a good chance that some people there use Lemmy too.
edit: Hacker as in Hacker Culture or in the sense of the German Wikipedia Entry for Hacker and not in the sense of the Security Hacker
Wait, someone knew the admin the whole time? I thought they went missing, but I also didn’t pay super close attention. I hope all is well with them.

I actually know one person IRL that uses Lemmy. We both found it independently of one another.
I know for certain I am the only Lemmy user within a 300km radius

As long as it's small there is no interest in meddling and control by the regime.
Afte witnessing the evolution of so-called 'moderation' and the inherent bias it entails I can say I prefer free speech with all the insults and whatever comes with it over the shithole that Reddit has become.
Deleted commments, banned or ghostbanned for the slightest and bots bots bots.

Why would we? Even Reddit had a secret salute when it was starting, because it was growing slowly. Something social exploding is not the norm, but the result of aggressive marketing, which Lemmy instances can’t afford, and have no need to pay for.

Not really, but I found out about lemmy and the Fediverse one week ago. I already told about it to 2 people, maybe if you ask me again in a couple of weeks the answer may be different
