I have had a pair of DT990s for 2 years and yeah the those plastic parts have also broken for me, however 6 months seems really fast for them to break under normal use.

Those parts are under quite the stress normally, any drops and internal damage accumulate. Mine gave out after heavy usage for 2 years, got myself high-density 3D printed ones with extra depth and haven't had a problem since.
I have the files for them still, in case it happens again. Fortunately haven't had to use them.

Sooooo, you still have the STL's?

[–] left4candy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Mine started giving out a few years ago, and just last week it's actually become a problem.

Headphones are nearly a decade old at this point though, so very happy with how well they held up

[–] BunnehZnipr@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Same. I got mine of Etsy though since I don't have a printer.

[–] Nigalig@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Uhhh, yes? It is indeed normal for them to break if struck or dropped lol

[–] darelones@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

You can clearly tell by the condition of the headphones that you didn't look after them. Hence it is cracking.

I've had mine for 10 years and they still look new after the routine pad clean. Unlucky I suppose. Do you regularly throw them at a wall?

i had those for 5 years and I don't think this can happen without external force

[–] JazzlikeEar@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Same thing happened to my Dt990s Bought 3d printed ones to replacement them. Downside to having a big ass head.

[–] Reichhardt@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Had mine for over 4 years, this hasnt happened

[–] FatBrookie@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Bro your headset looks like it's 10 year old, take more care.

[–] TheEncrow@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

You can 3d print the replacement parts yourself if you do some digging on the internet

Looks like it’s been stressed from either being set too tight for your head or from you always taking it off by just pulling on that sides cup. Or even just a fault in the material or batch of parts. Either way, something created an outward stress that broke the part in its way. Crazy how you’re being downvoted in the comments because people don’t believe damage is received in other ways than just dropping. Ask beyer for warranty coverage. Also replacement parts are plenty and easily installed, should they say no

[–] Oberfeldflamer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Its a common issue with these really.

My DT990 also had this happen after about 3 years of usage, on both sides, and Beyerdynamic sent me replacement pieces after i contacted them about it, even though i was out of warranty

[–] danoontjeh@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I've replaced mine but they're already broken again after less than two years, I do drop mine every now and then though

[–] -NGC-6302-@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Mine are completely undamaged; I treat them well. You been sleeping with them on or somethin?

[–] emceePimpJuice@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yh they suck & is tbh is the only part of the headphones that would break.

Best to find 3d printed replacements online instead of buying new oem replacement.

[–] singlescoffee@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

take care of your stuff lil bro

[–] non-james@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Twice for me in that spot but i am rough with them

[–] el-mocos@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

the front fell off

For me DT770 PRO's are not bad, never had such issues with breaking anything with normal usage at PC, but earpads got so dirty so fast, but the ones on DT700 Pro are better in that regard. What is bad is headband in DT700 Pro breaks so fast, that I just bought aftermarket one that costs 1/5 of headphones to not have same story again in couple of months. :|

On DT770 headband broke in different way, like cut hole in middle from usage, not bad compared to DT700 headband where cover simply gets out of mount.

[–] SoulOfTheDragon@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

That looks like it got hit, but those parts do crack in time. Mine are both cracked, but still holding on so well after many years that i haven't even bothered to 3D print new ones.

You can buy slider repair kits for 17€, but if it's only half a year old i would send message to Beyerdynamic and ask if they could send you those for free.

[–] Obi-Lan@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Only if you take a hammer to it.

[–] WarHead75@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes if you treat them as if they were those JBL shock resistant portable speakers
