Summary

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. acknowledged that up to 20% of the 10,000 layoffs at the Department of Health and Human Services may have been mistakes and will require reinstatements.

The cuts, part of a DOGE-led restructuring with Elon Musk, eliminated key programs, including the CDC’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch, stalling public health responses.

FDA officials confirmed some staff have already been asked to return temporarily, including teams handling drug and food inspections.

Oh really, wormboi? Tell me what else you think is a mistake. 🙄

This timeline is so fucking stupid

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 hours ago

Ah, republicans. Where "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't apply because their brains are broken so they can't tell that everything around them isn't broken

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

A bit late for that.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 16 points 11 hours ago

Yeah, we knew that BEFORE you did it, but you did it anyway because thats the MAGA way - blow it all up first, then realize that was stupid, and work 1000x harder to put it back together.

Just yesterday I heard testimony from federal workers: they got fired (possibly illegally). They barely had enough time to let the anger subside, put up their feet and crack a beer, when they got another email from their former employer: the firing was a procedural error. You're still working for us. Come back monday morning or else.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 16 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Or else what? They are still fired? Strange way to manage anything

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 14 hours ago

I'm sorry I don't remember the exact phrasing; it was quoted by a podaster anyhow. There was some sort of threat, based on the claim that they weren't actually really fired.

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 6 points 13 hours ago

Don't you get locked out of your email when fired especially government ones? What happened to the people that were unable to check their employee email or just didn't check it since they were fired?

[–] courageousstep@lemm.ee 9 points 15 hours ago

Unbelievable.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 12 hours ago

Eating > pride.

They'll go back until they find another job.

American health care: where the new standard of excellence is 80% correct limb amputation

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 23 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

On the plus side, I had the choice between my kid's prescription this month! It was a decision between paying $600 now, or waiting until June for the generic for only $150.

I think we can all agree that the systems here are fucked, but why did we have to blow up every-fucking-thing else up?

We can't even go refugee because we're god-damned pariahs.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 16 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

and the generic will be more like $250 because it was manufactured overseas.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Our neighbor goes to Canada every year to buy a years worth of medication because its much cheaper. I suggested my mom do that to save money on her Eliquis, but shes convinced that foreign drugs come from dirty factories, and probably laced with Fentanyl. From Canada.

The Conservative Propaganda Machine is powerful. I have to talk her off some ridiculous Conservative cliff every time she goes on the Internet.

She loves clickbait, the more misleading the headline the better. Three years ago she read a clickbait headline about about Cracker Barrel closing, and when i read it, they were closing a couple stores somewhere. Now, whenever we pass a Cracker Barrel, she either reminds me they are going out of business, or she wonders when they are going to be closing their stores. I remind her that they arent going out of business, but she just says she read it, and its true. All from a misleading clickbait headline from years ago.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 hours ago

. I remind her that they arent going out of business, but she just says she read it, and its true.

"If what you read was true mom, why have we been having this conversation about them going out of business for 5 years?"

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

a decision between paying $600 now, or waiting until June for the generic for only $150.

God-fucking-dammit this is all so wrong. My empathy.

We can’t even go refugee because we’re god-damned pariahs.

What? No, that's not true.

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 4 points 12 hours ago

What? No, that's not true.

A bit hyperbolic, I'll admit - though I'm in no position to uproot my family and move anywhere.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

"What's the problem, you have a redundant back up."

"Yeah, but the backup has bone cancer, you idiot!"

"Lol, malpractice will buy you a prosthetic. My bad, bro. Look, I need to bail, I'm going to Costa Rica for the holidays! Later! YOLO!"

[–] goldenquetzal@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

I'm living for these dopey ass photos they keep choosing for these idiots lmao

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 15 hours ago

Gosh, it's almost like the idiots working for the convicted felon don't know what the fuck they are doing.

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Remember to go meet a Republican specifically when you're really sick and contagious. It's not a problem for them because they get enough vitamin A.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Really... Why couldn't the curse have gotten this Kennedy?

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

Quick, someone invite him skiing or on a small aircraft!

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 13 hours ago

It still might, I could definitely see someone shooting him for the joke alone let alone him pissing folks off.

[–] ComfortablyDumb@awful.systems 8 points 15 hours ago

Thank you brain worm for this insightful explanation.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 16 hours ago

Sounds like an excuse to replace 20% of the workforce with nepo babies

[–] Ilixtze@lemm.ee 7 points 15 hours ago

Lets gooo! United Healtcare denying US patients of their scheduled bloodletting and leeches!

[–] aka_quant_noir@hcommons.social 9 points 17 hours ago

@MicroWave

20% of the layoffs seems low, especially considering 100% of the executive hires are terrible, awful, intentional "mistakes."

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 3 points 13 hours ago

The only mistake was the brain worm not killing him. You think the statement of having brain worms would make him unable or undesirable to hold any type of office.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 3 points 14 hours ago

Somebody get that asshole a lozenge ffs

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

No shit, Dr. Dumbass...
