He’ll never actually do it. He simply wants to encourage more people to say outrageous things so engagement levels increase as everyone does dumb shit.

Good luck to anyone who falls for this.

[–] Got_Bent@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago

When I look at the current state of the internet, I pine for the simpler days of the nineties when a/s/l and stormfront.org look downright warm and fuzzy in comparison. That was just weird individuals being weird. Now it's institutionalized across the entire Internet.

[–] LeadSoldier@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

He's eating his children! I knew this day would come I just didn't expect it to be so obvious! He needs engagement so he is going to incite people to say crazy things and then they are going to get in trouble and never be able to get a hold of him. He's just literally fucking with the US government right now. I don't know why but I think Musk is flexing his political strength in a way that he doesn't realize will destroy him.

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 57 points 2 years ago (3 children)

lol sure he will. He won’t even pay rent.

[–] whofearsthenight@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago (7 children)

Remember that time he offered to solve world hunger but then didn't because "nah" basically?

No, but we can trust him this time. All those other lies were completely unrelated. /s

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's possible. He literally burnt an extra 150 million dollars by bumping his offer for twitter to 54.20 just to make it a stupid 420 meme. It's not like he doesn't have the money to pay those bills.

I’m not saying he doesn’t have the money - I was mostly commenting on his outright refusal to pay other bills.

[–] db2@sopuli.xyz 49 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He's not offering it to former employees, but they should absolutely go for it very very publicly. Musk is fishing for money from Trump and Kanye, it's probably some kind of laundering scheme.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He will have to sue HIMSELF! diabolical!

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Suing himself is the only way he’ll win a Twitter-related lawsuit.

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Musk is fishing for money from Trump

Trump is very obviously not coming back to Twitter, doesn't have an employer, and he's offering to pay for the service, not charge for it, so I'm not sure how that theory pans out.

[–] Hildegarde@lemmy.world 39 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The kid can't even pay his own rent, how's he going to afford legal fees?

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 7 points 2 years ago

They are actually responsible for paying arbitration for all the ex-employees suing the company after Twitter argued in court that they must go through arbitration. Last I heard was that they were having trouble paying these legal costs as well.

[–] Hextic@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A Musk (or Trump) Never pays his debts.

[–] elvith@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

Alexa, play "The Rains of ~~Cast~~Muskamere"

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Elon Musk has said his X social media platform will pay the legal bills and sue on the behalf of people who have been treated “unfairly” by employers because of posting or liking something on the site formerly known as Twitter.

“If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill,” Musk said in a post on X late on Saturday, adding that there will be no limits to funding the bills.

“And we won’t just sue, it will be extremely loud and we will go after the boards of directors of the companies too,” Musk said later in response to a post about nothing changing behavior in the US faster than a threat of legal action.

The figures came as the company is going through organizational changes and is looking to boost falling advertising revenue.

After 17 years with an iconic blue bird logo that came to symbolize the broadcasting of ideas to the world, Musk renamed Twitter as X and unveiled a new logo in July, marking a focus on building an “everything app”.

Earlier in July, the billionaire whose other companies include SpaceX and Tesla had said that the social media platform’s cashflow remains negative because of a nearly 50% drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load.

Is it the same guy who barely can afford to pay the servers and owes wherever he looks?

If any right-wing nutjob is reading this: Don't count on him actually paying something for you.

[–] sour@feddit.de 31 points 2 years ago

If any right-wing nutjob is reading this: You should count on him actually paying for you. Go wild! But make sure to use your public profile so people don't think you're a bot!

[–] Candelestine@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I think he is sorely underestimating how many people are going to contact him about this offer. lol

[–] phillaholic@lemm.ee 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He’s not going to pay them shit. He didn’t pay his cloud bills or office rent.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When are these landlords and services going to start shutting him down? My popcorn is getting stale over here.

[–] phillaholic@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

When you have money you can behave like you don't and get away with it for a long time.

[–] average650@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

I mean, he can just deny the majority of them. It doesn't matter.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

Also how many lawyers.

[–] mindbleach@lemmy.world 25 points 2 years ago

Two fantasies - one, that anybody's been persecuted for posting on what was the most popular communication tool in the world, and two, that a narcissist ignoring his own bills will ever cover yours.

People don't get fired for where they post.

People get fired for what they post.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 24 points 2 years ago

He doesn't even pay his own bills. What makes people believe he'll actually pay theirs? He may pay one person's bill at first to get a flurry of news attention, but he'll definitely leave everyone else out to rot.

[–] whiskeypickle@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 years ago

he won’t even pay his rent or his own legal bills… he stiffs his own employees on severance packages. he’s lying if he promises anything.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 14 points 2 years ago

LOL

Imagine Elon Musk actually fucking PAYING HIS DEBTS

YEAH PAL PULL THE OTHER ONE

[–] DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Twitter is still underwater from losing half their advertiser revenue plus the billions in debt they still owe. He's not going to pay out unless he can find one particular case that will bring lots of attention. Elmo is an attention whore that everyone needs to ignore.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 12 points 2 years ago

Can't Musk posts just go to EnoughMuskSpam?

[–] pottedmeat7910@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Do you want to pay the legal bills for a bunch of closet Nazis? Because that's how you wind up paying the legal bills for a bunch of closet Nazis.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

And Musk would have a problem supporting Nazis how...?

[–] rotopenguin@infosec.pub 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Musk offers to pay l̶e̶g̶a̶l̶ bills o̶f̶-p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶-u̶n̶f̶a̶i̶r̶l̶y̶-t̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶d̶-f̶o̶r̶-p̶o̶s̶t̶i̶n̶g̶-o̶n̶-p̶l̶a̶t̶f̶o̶r̶m̶

There, does that sound any more believable?

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

No. He doesn't pay his own bills!

[–] Mojojojo1993@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Will he be paying his own bills ? Think quite a few are overdrawn

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Okay so I have an LLC, can I hire my girlfriend and then fire her for something she posted on Twitter and then have musk come after me? That would be hilarious.

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

He may offer to pay the legal bills, but he won't do it.

[–] Jackolantern@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

what a clown 🤡

[–] Tronn4@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Oh musk. Stf

[–] Javish@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

This modafucka can’t even pay his own company’s bills on time.

[–] s38b35M5@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Tell us you want your social media company to be a popular version of truth social without telling us you want your social media company to...

Musk cannot even pay for the office space that he is leasing. What makes anyone that he will pay for your legal bills? What shit crock.

[–] SaiPenguin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I could see this being a fishing expedition looking for a “case” to rally folks behind and to muddy the waters.
