No. They're excellent headphones.

I would say yes but if you like them enjoy them. Personally the XM4s are still rather impressive set of headphones imo and can get them for less than 250 now if you look around but overall hey if you love them then they are worth it

[–] ElGrandrei@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

No they're a great pair of bt headphones. You could get them refurbished, but new is always better

[–] DuffelBagCollector@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If it makes you happy it can’t be stupid. I say that as I watch my woofy and buzz action figures

[–] JJ_Rom@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Are you happy? Then it doesn’t matter

[–] thesecretpotato69@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] efgp1@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yup, can find it for a lot less on almost any retailer here in Europe... And Black Friday is in literally two weeks... If you can, return them and wait for the sales

[–] Ri_Konata@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (5 children)

380 is MSRP, no?

Depends on what you want out of them. If you want travel headphones with good ANC, I don't think there's many headphones that'll get the job done better (based on reviews, at least).

If you wanted the best of the best in sound quality, it's not the right choice.

I always like to ask myself, “does it make me happy or does it make me money”? If one of those apply then I’d say it’s worth it.

Those are about $349 here in the states. So, you did a little. But, if you’re happy then don’t stress.

I mean here it costs 420 so I think I got a good deal and I will most likely use them for daily travel to work and back

It's ok even i paid retail for xm3s but I still use them and they are convenient for travel. They don't sound as good as real audiophile gear but they work well for what they are made for

[–] Zapador@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Cheapest I can find them in my country (Denmark) is 370€ so doesn't seem like a bad deal.

[–] AciVici@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If it makes you happy then of course not. But if earning money is hard for you then I strongly suggest returning them since the new xm5 have incredibly fragile hinge (not all units but numbers are growing) and prone to break easily and look for somthing else like bose QC ultra or sennheiser momentum 4.

[–] Hoegaardener70@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes. It would be much better to spend $5000 on a Focal Utopia.

Ehm, you pay no customs for buying in th EU. Can't you just order from Austria or something and only pay 326 Euro? Alos Black Friday is around, so wait for that

[–] 5uperman8atman@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Those are top of the line, and if you like them, it's worth it. It's possible to get a better deal, maybe, but this is still a fair price.

[–] Rokae@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (7 children)

I mean, for ANC away from home listening, they aren't bad. I'd have bought an older used model, but I understand wanting the latest version new. Are they the best audio you can get for the money? No, but they're convenient and have some nice features. I think they're a decent buy.

Yes and no. You could have waited for BF and got it cheaper It's one of the best sets out there. If not the best

[–] 71M07HYD@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

... Black Friday is like 2 weeks from now y'know

[–] therealPaulPlay@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sound quality is meh, slightly worse than XM4s actually, build quality is average and battery life isn‘t amazing either. I hope you care a lot about ANC otherwise they are absolutely not worth it with options like the Audeze Maxwell or Final UX3000, maybe even Grado GW100 v2s and Audiotechnica M50 BT

[–] janetx147@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The noise cancelling is sublime and they're incredibly comfortable too. They're tuned pretty well imo asides from too much bass but bring that down in EQ and they're even more amazing

[–] Firebreathingwhore@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

No. Especially if it doesn't break the bank.

[–] FakeProViking@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Well, best Bluetooth headphones on the market, so no, is that price crazy.? Yes

Yes, could have bought nice cables instead

[–] iibergazz_94@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Can get them for 321€ shipped right now from EU

[–] H2OExplosive@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes, the XM4s are overall better and cheaper

[–] judgenut@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I use mine for travel (and love them) and the open backs stay at home :)

[–] uSaltySniitch@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

When the Focal Bathys exist, it's a Strange choice, but it's not stupid.

[–] multiwirth_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I paid 379€ for beyerdynamic Aventho wireless back in 2018. Unfortunately the headband lost it's strength and it doesn't fit very well anymore (results in poor seal, which is bad for on ears) It was doing 4 years of rough usage though so that's forgiveable. Best sounding pair of headphones i ever had, easily outperforming a DT 770 pro.

So it definitely was money worth spent. If your purchase gets you a similar experience, i guess that's fine then.

[–] Uwawawawawawa@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Bro those are on sale over here for $249 or €266. You overpaid around €114.

Idk about stupid, but it would’ve been smarter to wait for a sale unless you needed them very soon for a trip or something. I always wait for things like headphones to go on sale because they almost always do at some point

[–] GameDev1909@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Muddy ass headphones … refunded them so fast

[–] Akella333@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I use them daily with my Walkman, give them a bit of EQ and they sound pretty great. They are light and cancel out a ton of noise so it’s a useful piece of kit.

If you like them then money well spent!

[–] ThatGuyFromSweden@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If you value the features highly, sure. From an audio and longevity standpoint, it's not worth the money. As always, it's complicated.

Some will put up with unreliable and shitty sounding headphones because they fit their aesthetic taste. Frankly, I think that's pushing the decadence a bit too far, but that's what they prioritise nonetheless.

If your top priority with the purchase is getting a wireless ANC headphone and the bling factor of having the latest and (supposedly) greatest, then the XM5 makes sense.

If you don't care about the features and gimmick and just want good sound quality, you could get a set of IEMs for a tenth of the cost that are arguably better sounding.

If you just want a decent wireless headphone, then the Anker Soundcore Q35 isn't a helluva lot worse than the XM5, and costs a lot less.

[–] gran_REX@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes. Next question...

[–] a_p3nguin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I bought some xm4s for £250 and every time I wear them I keep thinking that they're a bargain for £250 because of the auditory bliss and why I can work/study pretty much anywhere

[–] madstation@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I like them. Not my favorite set of cans but they are lightweight, sound pretty decent and have a great feature set.

Congrats!

Do you see women getting all caught up on how much they spend every month at the hair dressers get their colour done? Nope.... Well it's more then you spent on those buddy.

[–] Jontun189@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Stupid but not really that stupid :^)

They're good headphones, I had the XM2; I liked them while they lasted but after 2 weeks or so they stopped working and they didn't have any to replace them so I refunded them.

The noise cancelling is a real boon imo, you just don't hear things like engines with them on.

[–] NeoWilson@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Jesus didnt they used to go for kuch lower even when released ?

[–] MitroBoomin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I like the XM4s better since you can fold them up and throw em in your backpack/work bag easier

[–] Chimpindisguise@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nearly same sound on Soundcore and they go for like 80bucks

[–] makintrash@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I got them for 310 in the airport last week. Pretty good travel pair.

[–] wewhy-@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] ashyjay@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I would have waited a couple of weeks to get them in the inevitable black Friday sales.
