3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

It is like police should be identifiable or something. But you got ICE in plain clothing trying to hide who they are because they don't want to deal with social consequences of being fascists and live freely in their communities.

Making it easy for any bad actor to impersonate police or ICE also.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

“Aren’t you a little short for an ICE agent?”

[–] teft@lemmy.world 71 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Both democrats according to other reporting. The shooter was posing as a police officer and also shot the spouses of the politicians.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 44 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yup. The linked article has been updated to that effect. Both Democrats, the assassin was impersonating a police officer, and both are in grave condition.

Democrats need to start hiring personal security. We're at that point.

At least one of them (Hortman) has died.

Democratic politicians in a legislature where Democrats had a one-seat majority. Fascists will do anything to seize power.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 59 points 11 months ago

This is what happens when you pardon terrorists. No doubt this was Trump's plan from the start. He knew that sooner or later, his cult would start shooting his enemies for him.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 37 points 11 months ago (5 children)

A source familiar with the matter tells ABC News that two of those shot are state Sen. John Hoffman of Champlin and state Rep. Melissa Hortman of Brooklyn Park

Why these two? I did a search for recent news articles about them and nothing notable jumped out at me, but hitting two Democratic state lawmakers feels too coincidental to just be dumb spree killing.

HAD a one seat majority. Until the special elections take place, the Republicans now have a one seat majority.

All good, far preferred to someone saying that we need to be respectful to cops or else we're responsible for their actions

[–] rottingleaf@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Reminds me of that anecdote about Napoleon and a respectful young soldier offering to help him with something cause he's taller, and the answer.

"That can be straightened out."

[–] liran@lemmy.world 25 points 11 months ago

They're decently active and notable in state news. I hear their names on local news more than the rep from our district. They're also decently close to each other, viable to hit both in a short period of time

[–] Hasherm0n@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Towards the end of the article it's also mentioned a list of politicians was found in the shooters car. The names of both politicians he shot were among the names on the list.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

I imagine that it was a matter of opportunity. They were within 8 miles of each other. If and when they catch the suspect, it'll probably turn out that he lives in the area.

[–] LiterallyLMAO@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

Hortman was the house speaker prior to this year's tie.

An argument in favor of having a gun, at least if you're a democrat politician.

OK, seriously every era is unique and the same as all others at the same time.

[–] HurlingDurling@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

I can't say I did natzi that coming

[–] LiterallyLMAO@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago

Jesus fuck they just reported hortman died. This is insane

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago (2 children)

My knee jerk reaction is a Republican dressed as law enforcement to try and stir Democrats into extreme anger or violence for protests today so that law enforcement has a powder keg that allows them the force they want to use.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago

My instinct is Republicans sending brownshirts to take care of any Democratic majorities

[–] borf@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 11 months ago

You don't need to attribute some grand chess plan

They hate, they kill, they are winning

[–] neuromorph@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Can we say with 100% certainty that the Minnesota terrorist was impersonating a policeman? And not an actively serving officer?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

getting started early today are we.

Keep in mind, the cops, the feds, all the shit birds in uniform; they weren't shit if you were on the streets in 2020.

The real threat was always chuds.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago (2 children)

In 2025, the chuds are in uniform now.

[–] borf@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Don't say that! You might hurt their cop feelings! :(

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

Someone should really go to one of these protrests with a fly reel with donut on the end of it.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I mean, there is legitimately more constraints, however paper thin, on someone in uniform than someone not in uniform.

A chud has no such constraints. And we haven't heard much from them in a minute.

But this is what happens when you disregard the social contract which law represents. Put on a uniform and crime is now legal.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

And we haven't heard much from them in a minute.

I think you walked right into the point and missed it.

Why haven't we heard about the Oathkeepers, the 3 Percenters, or the Proud Boys lately?

Because Trump put them in uniforms.

[–] borf@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah, cops don't do things like checks notes

Flashbang a baby...

Repeatedly publicly execute non-resisting people with no trial or process...

Stand around not only allowing a school shooter to execute children but actively preventing parents from getting to their children...

They've always been chuds, but white people have been allowed to pretend they aren't by playing along with the convenient fiction that all black people are dangerous criminals who deserve to die

Edit: Trusting cops LITERALLY GOT THE PEOPLE IN THE NEWS ARTICLE WE ARE COMMENTING ON SHOT

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I swear the Internet breeds a certain kind of idiot allergic to reading comprehension.

As bad as cops are, there are material constraints placed on them. Thats the reality you are in. They aren't always enforced, they aren't good enough, but they exist.

There are no constraints on a 3%'er.

I've lined up against the PPB and I've lined up against Proud Boys.

I'm not fucking remotely concerned about the PPB in the same way that I am about white nationalists.

And if your 🪱 🧠 is to far gone to comprehend the difference, leave the decisions to people who have some experience.

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago

The FBI released the suspect's photo.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Be one hell of a councidence if they werent connected. Bith being Democratic is no coincidence either.

[–] kayky@thelemmy.club 3 points 11 months ago

America is looking a lot of Mexico right now.
