The face of fascism.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 55 points 2 days ago (3 children)

How do you go home and look at your family after doing something like this?

[–] LookBehindYouNowAndThen@lemmy.world 68 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"Honey, I'm bummed because I didn't get to shoot a dog today. Time for your beating."

[–] zurchpet@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

And by "dog" they don't mean the animal...

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Yeah, sadly, this is probably it. I bet they all have a "don't tread on me" bumper sticker on their oversized pickups

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

I'm curious how they made it home at all.

This is the kind of scenario where I personally can not even remotely fathom what is going through the heads of the people doing this.

Do they actually not care?

Are they "just doing their job"?

Do they get off on the power trip?

A bit of column A, a little column B?

They can't possibly see any of these people as a genuine physical threat to their person.

I refuse to believe they don't have the comprehension enough to understand their actions...

...but then how are they justifying it? What possible mental gymnastics are these people putting themselves through to attempt to justify this to themselves? To try and tell themselves they're doing the right thing?

Is it conformity? Everyone else on my team is doing this so I need to do this as well!

So they're simply spineless? They know what they're doing is wrong but refuse to speak out about it because it'll ostracise them?

Or they're thinking they need to conform to keep their jobs? Rocking the boat will damage their chances at promotion after all, or even cost them their jobs entirely!

So it's a societal thing? I'm a part of a group which ostracises the jobless and homeless and if I lose my job I'll be jobless and potentially homeless which means I'll be ostracised as well!

I would love to know, I would really love to know the thoughts going through these fuckers' heads as they tighten the zip ties around these people's wrists.

Ever been to an HoA meeting? Some small people get even a tiny drop of power and it goes right to their heads.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I am no fan of the police, but in this case they likely have no choice but to zip tie. What you see here are regulations and standards being applied, regardless of how nonsensical they are. My guess is that the standard rules and procedures for detaining and transporting someone in custody require the police officers to restrain the individual using zip ties. I am willing to bet that even if the person was paralyzed from the neck down, and their arms were completely useless, the police officer would have still been required to zip tie their wrists together. Its all stupid. This entire country is stupid.

Have no choice sounds very similar to "just following orders". They all have free will, they all have a choice.

American cops can shoot people in cold blood and get away with it, do you honestly believe they wouldn't get away with choosing not to zip tie disabled people?

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It is 100% fucked up. I am just saying that it isn't a one off because the cops felt threatened. This is institutional practice and standards without exceptions, even when it is cruel and makes no sense.

[–] PillBugTheGreat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Word. Systemic poverty, systemic racism, systemic police brutality are just that, systemic. Actions perpetuated by norms within a society or group reinforced by rules and regulations that further normalize the behavioral expectations.

There are playbooks to disarm systemic stuff, and they do take concerted efforts to break that system. The movie Brazil documents all of the horrors and risks.

[–] Feyd@programming.dev 16 points 2 days ago

Yeah they totally have no choice but to dehumanize and abuse peaceful protestors

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Call in the people with no arms or legs just to fuck with them.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

They'd probably zip-tie them to the mobility scooter or some other asinine shit.

[–] treeofnik@discuss.online 10 points 2 days ago

This is so fucked

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

I wonder what the difference is between these people and those in the "protest" on 1/6? Why are there mass arrests now, but not then?

It's impossible to know.

[–] Ptsf@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

This country has never liked protestors, but constantly claims it's the only way to secure change peacefully... At least they didn't get shot. Kent State should've launched new, extensive, and inaliénable rights for all protestors. It's a shame it did not.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago

Non us people. Your countrymen are not kidding to stay away from here. This is what we are doing to our own people and our most vulnerable people.

[–] jimjam5@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago
