He definitely didn't secretly have a torn ligament. That's not an injury you can hide and attempt to play on.

[–] Neonsands@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No, you’re not getting it. Burrow purposefully played fine through the whole week in practice, warmups, and the game (until he got his hand flattened at an awkward angle under himself and a 260 lb linebacker), but only to cover up his wrist injury he wanted to not get seen or treated.

He trusted the compression sleeve to heal him right up instead of medical professionals he’s worked with extensively on multiple occasions

[–] RealBigDicTator@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

While I agree with you, there's still no explanation for the video being deleted.

[–] Neonsands@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Is this the “but why did Brady trash his phone during deflategate” argument?

[–] whobroughtmehere@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Man, conspiracy theory people need to stop multiplying.

Not everything is an elaborate hoax lol

[–] OcelottaClams@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You don’t need an explanation. It could be any number of things but it’s not because he had a secret wrist injury. He wears that compression glove regularly when flying.

[–] Quirky-Lawyer-3409@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not to mention we saw a play where his wrist got fucked. He threw another pass and almost fell over in pain. Then he left the game. His wrist may have been sore before the game but he was not playing through a tear.

[–] bigloser42@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’m no wristologist, but I wonder if perhaps a strain/sprain makes a tear, while still unlikely, more likely to occur?

[–] Coley54Bear@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Strains/sprains are low grade tears.

[–] bigloser42@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Clearly I am a wristologist then.

[–] Coley54Bear@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You’ll be receiving your degree in 7-10 business days.

[–] CatDad69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Hehe you’re saying wristologist that’s so wacky and funny

[–] Neuraxis@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm so glad we have so many sports medicine physicians here to clarify that partial tears, inflammation, or injuries that preceed a full tear aren't a thing.

if Burrow had a torn ligament prior to the game how was he throwing the ball in the first quarter?

[–] LeBremsstrahlung@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Magic Ligament theory

[–] thrallus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Just because it was aggravated in-game doesn’t mean it didn’t already exist beforehand.

[–] onetimequestion66@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You can have a ligament strain without tearing it. I think everyone agrees if it was really torn he would not have played. It seems a little suspicious though that the first time anyone saw him in that sleeve was right before a game where he had a season ending injury. My thoughts are more that he had a strain to the ligament (which normally he would be able to play through but got his hand smashed under the d lineman) however I’m no doctor and it’s all speculation at this point. Either way I feel bad for the dude and hope IF there was a previous injury that it doesn’t mean he’s worse off down the line

[–] Royal_Negotiation_83@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Do you think if his arm was already slightly injured, it would be easier to tear?

[–] SomewhereAggressive8@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter if he had an injury before the game in my opinion (although he clearly didn’t have a tear before the game). As far as I’m aware, the Questionable or Doubtful tags are simply meant to provide a probability of a player playing in the game. Even if Burrow was injured, it’s not “illegal” to not list him as Questionable if it was never a question he was going to play.

I hate how intertwined gambling is with the NFL now. That shits a plague

[–] jwil06@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Even the national media. I swear it’s not even about who is a good team or not anymore, it’s just who can cover or not. I really hate it as a non-gambler

[–] Simpleton216@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I choose to believe gambling companies have a stake in gacha games to get kids addicted early.

[–] ConstantineMonroe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’m calling it now, in 10 years gambling is gonna get made illegal again because it’s going to cause a new opioid crisis. Fan Duel and Draft kings are the Purdue Pharma of the 2020s. Just wait til the divorce rate skyrockets because dad put this months rent money on a team parlay. Just like how we look back at the late 90s and early 2000s with horror at the OxyContin pill mills where anyone could get a prescription for opioids, we are going too look back in horror that every sports league in America has gambling plastered. All these media people who have been metaphorically telling us to try OxyContin are going to flip the script and be like “I can’t believe gambling has gotten this out of control,” and pretend they weren’t part of the problem. And let’s not forget that there isn’t a lot of economic prosperity right now. Millions of people are doing worse than they were before. Gambling is gonna be seen as a way to get rich quick, and it’s only gonna make the issue worse.

Totally not biased counterpoint: bengals should lose their next 5 first round picks

[–] General_Rain@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Isnt his health, like, his business?

[–] jwil06@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio’s Super Bowl is shit like this lol

[–] Lithops_salicola@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Did Florio lose money on this game? I can't understand the obsession otherwise.

[–] Great_Rhunder@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is getting clicks by pushing bullshit narratives. This is how he has made his money for 20 years. The guy straight up lies and gets people upset over nothing.

[–] Fun_Recipe8614@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Let's be clear. Shit like this is why sports betting will ruin professional sports

[–] StreetCornOnTheLow@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I had this same problem when I played too much WoW

[–] XOnYurSpot@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’m just gunna go out on a limb here and say that a multi millionaire dollar quarterback did not jeopardize the rest of his career over some bets on one game.

[–] Snow_Tiger819@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This. I’ve yet to see anyone give a plausible reason WHY Burrow and the Bengals would do this.

[–] Kara_Del_Rey@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Only thing I could think is one of those situations where you don't wanna sit your best player and he doesn't wanna sit either, that competitive mindset. But I very highly doubt that in this situation, thats a very nasty injury to risk make worse, nor could you even play well with it anyways. Florio is just looking for more clicks.

[–] YoHoochIsCrazy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No one cares except people interested in betting on game outcomes.

[–] DirectTV_AndrewLuck@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio hasn't slept since that game. I guess he lost money.

[–] BigAcanthocephala160@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio in shambles

[–] AdvancedZone7500@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Florio is conspiracy-minded fyi

[–] sonfoa@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fits in perfectly with /r/nfl then

[–] BigRig432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio is just looking for conspiracies at this point

[–] IllIIlllIIIlI@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] Intelligent_Limit462@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio is suggesting an "insider trading" arrangement exists between the NFL and the sports booking companies. Florio has repeatedly stated on his show that for decades the NFL said no to gambling only to have a sudden, unexplained reversal. IMO he's suggesting that in exhange for the NFL receiving revenue from the sports book companies a deal was made where these same companies will have access to information denied the gambling public at large.

[–] ill_try_my_best@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Please don't Florio post. There are tons of other sources you could have used that aren't hilarious biased

[–] ssj_ali@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Give us their first rounder

[–] DomitianF@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Florio needs to get off it. Ita perfect reasonable that he wore that thong for compression to prevent swelling.

[–] form_an_opinion@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That's obvious, it should have never been a narrative that it was hurt beforehand.

[–] GhostMug@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think they can use plausible deniability here because whatever was bothering Burrow before was not the same injury that took him out and therefore was not a "wrist problem". It could have been carpal tunnel for all we know. My wife wears a wrist brace at work for that. Maybe he was playing video games on the plane and just wanted to wear a brace so he wouldn't get any pain to crop up or something.
