Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Avoid misinformation.

Avoid incomprehensible posts.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

There's no such thing as an original thought.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 47 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wow, that's true! Did you come up with that?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It can't be empirically proven that I didn't.

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He asked if I came up with it, not if I was the first to come up with it.

I never saw that Mark Twain quote.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

You could have heard it, through.

Pretty sure airplanes and spaceships never existed under the sun until fairly recently.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 15 points 1 month ago

Tbf airplanes and spaceship care objects, not ideas. There are plenty of accounts throughout history of people wanting to fly or reach up to the heavens.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago

You mean they were IN the sun before?! How the fuck did we get them out of there???

[–] socsa@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

But the sun is eclipsed by the moon

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I posted about this exact quote like last week

[–] Juice@midwest.social 59 points 1 month ago

"In a rich man's house there is no where to spit but in his face"

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Jorking it requires no ingredients (that I do not already possess) and is therefore free.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Since when did "jerking off" become "jorking it"? My autocorrect doesn't even recognize the word "jorking".

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It makes me imagine the Swedish Chef masturbating.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] Binzy_Boi@piefed.ca 3 points 1 month ago

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Just lob some Maki and a few Nigiri in a pot with half water, salt and a bit of olive oil. Boil for at least 15 minutes.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Milk.

It's cheap af and fairly well balanced. Don't do this if you're lactose intolerant, though.

[–] Impound4017@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As a lactose intolerant person, my solution is peanut butter. Just fucking full spoons of the stuff. Probably not for everyone, and is a bit high in fat and low on carbs in extremis, but it’s decently balanced all things considered and requires very little effort while remaining quite cost-effective.

Definitely gonna need some water on hand, though.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd rather just eat a can of beans. Preferably with rice, but I can do without.

[–] Impound4017@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Certainly not mutually exclusive. As a man in his 20s who is both lazy and bad at cooking, rice, beans, and peanut butter could comfortably be called the Triumvirate of my diet lol.

Boydinner.

[–] exu@feditown.com 2 points 1 month ago

Lactose free milk exists

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Dilute yogurt in water to get homemade lactose-less milk.

[–] DODOKING38@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Fucking love yoghurt drink especially when it's a bit tangy add a spoon of vinegar and you are set, chef's kiss 😘

[–] atocci@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Bet Diogenes never had a Diet Pepsi though

[–] Gap@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Chewing gum tho. The act of chewing makes you less hungry
