Well, there's an idea.
Does this significantly damage the wood?
Yes, the body of the fungus grows through and digests the wood slowly, this is literally rot with the bonus of food production… though you probably wouldn't wanna eat these depending on what they’re growing on, as they can suck up toxins which you then eat.
Yeah, I'd imagine treated wood wouldn't be great.
In the wild I find them growing on maples and alders. Douglas fir construction lumber and plywood fruit should be avoided.

I don't see a problem. All I see is a week's supply of mushrooms.
Treat them with respect and kindness and they won’t be aggressive.
what if I want them to be aggressive? be disrespectful and cruel?
Talk with them, set the rules, consent is the key.
You might just need a different type of mushroom.
