Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"In addition to invalidating transgender residents’ state identification documents, the new law will require people in government-owned buildings to use restrooms and other multi-occupancy private spaces in accordance with their sex assigned at birth."

Please, PLEASE, do this. Get those real big hairy Bear ftms to go into the womens bathrooms and be all masculine. This will last all of 1 day until the ciswomen are severely pissed off and demand changing it back. I wish I was ftm and big, bearded, and hairy all over, just to see the looks on conservative womens' faces as they really rethink their values.

Huh? They'll just call the cops and get you thrown in jail for perversion.

I fully share the "burn it down" sentiment. Trans men get beaten for doing exactly this. A trans man was beaten for using the women's restroom because it was the only one with a toilet..

I know the trans-masc community knows not to put themselves in danger for this. No one's going to "prove" anyone wrong. All that will happen is the people who want trans people dead will get trans people dead.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

This is the intent. Give them an impossible choice and punish them for doing anything but staying at home.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 5 days ago

In same camp of supporting the sentiment, I played this out in my head.

Okay, but what if they’re open carrying a large gun?
[Bad outcome]

Okay, what if they open carry and have a body camera (that they turn off while in the restroom, obviously)?
[Bad outcome and ignored by media - bad outcome]

Okay, what if there’s a group that’s open carrying and have body cameras?
[Bitch, did you just determine they had to form a militia to go to the bathroom away from home? Sigh.]

I don’t know the solution, other than for people to mind their own fucking business.

You are not the first person to say this.

And as I understand it, trans men are as a group kida sick of being volintold to put themselves in harms way. It's great that you recognize that they are men and are treated as such in your "men should do danger" sexism, but don't suggest someone else do what you're not willing to do yourself.

Get few skirts and maybe some makeup, dress yourself in drag, and then make a habit of asking every restaurant or shopping mall or store what bathroom you should use.

(Sure, you'd likely get harassed and banned and maybe arrested, but there's a minority being oppressed and standing beside them is what strong allies do.)

Someone is almost certainly going to be killed because some vigilante saw the "wrong" person using the restroom.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 8 points 5 days ago

Sadly, this is what they want. They want that to happen so MAGAt women can falsely accuse those ftms of assaulting women in the restrooms and mobs of MAGAt men can then attack them and beat them half (or more) to death for using the women's restroom.

[–] numerator3962@fedinsfw.app 6 points 5 days ago

I imagine one of the next steps is to legislate that outward appearance should match the birth certificate gender as well.

[–] AnotherUsername@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Better still. Cis women with strong jawlines should dress like they're men in drag, and go looking for bathrooms. Then absolutely freak out and make a huge scene in public when they get challenged.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

They do not care, none of this is about "fairness" nor will lead to any embarrassment on their part, they WANT to shame cis women who aren't "pretty enough" by their cartoonish mara-lago standards, they WANT to investigate women's genitals and make women feel violated. If they could, they would have groups of men molesting girls and women outside every bathroom in the USA. This was never about actual safety of anyone, it's always been about reinforcing control and power.

For proof, they sure don't seem to care about investigating trans men using the men's restroom. They have a perception of power and where it belongs and are doing everything to clutch onto that power and hold onto it as our world changes.

[–] AnotherUsername@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

The lawsuits would be SO MUCH FUN though.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I was all for this idea until I read the reply. And they're right unfortunately

[–] AnotherUsername@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

But think of the $uffering you would endure and how much you could make them cough up afterwards!

There are so many places in 'Murica that genuinely seem to want to be remembered badly by history

[–] sirscooter@lemmy.zip 12 points 5 days ago

The right wing keeps thinking if we just remove these people it will be better, when that doesn't work, they move on to a new group over and over again until you're the group that's causing the problem and they remove you.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 35 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Next up, gays, women, people who speak Spanish, college graduates, left handed people and red-heads.

Interracial Marriage too, easy-peasy to set up: "We have intelligence reports that REALLY BAD TERRORISTS are using marriage to immigrate into the USA, so we are now investigating every marriage between native citizens (whites) and people of other nationality (not white) and invalidating marriage certificates so we can kick these baby-eating monsters out of the country!"

edit: I'm really not kidding here, I am getting called a fearmonger for this prediction the same way I was called a fearmonger about warning they would repeal Roe Vs Wade and make their own paramilitary federal brute squad/police force. But they JUST announced that they would be ramping up de-naturalization efforts up with a monthly quota of thousands of people per month having their citizenship revoked, as opposed to this being an exceptionally rare thing only for fringe cases.

[–] nightlily@leminal.space 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Even if that doesn’t happen, isn’t this bad enough? Fighting this shouldn’t be contingent on it potentially happening to other groups.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

It's always more persuasive to appeal to self interest rather than altruism.

Altruism is the sprinkles on the cupcake of self interest

Every lawmaker who voted for this is guilty of treason.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

lawmaker

guilty of treason

Paraphrasing the words of Mark Carney at an absolutely bonkers world financial summit recently, the illusion of liberal rule-of-law is over.

Lawmakers are above the law. We stopped caring if they represented our actual values so we started letting criminals run the prison.

Blue states like Colorado should be making it easier for people stuck in the shithole states like Kansas to get CO driver's licenses with accurate gender markers

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Maybe the government should quit giving a fuck about gender on documents at all.

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Common names are easy to parse gender until they’re not. I just met an elderly man named Courtney. My niece’s legal name is “Jaime”, which is a common male name amongst Mexicans. My elementary school had a Pat of both genders. Sam as well.

Then there are names from other cultures that speak non-Germanic, non-romance languages. Good luck knowing Mandarin or Cantonese names by reading them. Same with some Irish and welsh names. Same with names from Africa.
