I dislike that person for despoiling a book...even if they own the book

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Poor book. Nothing short of the crappiest, soulless literature out there deserves to be desicrated with wing sauce like that

[–] Amelia42@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And from a quick Google search, that page seems to be the beginning of The Man of the Crowd, by Edgar Allan Poe. So likely an Poe collection of stories

[–] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 11 points 2 days ago

More like Edgar Allan Poultry.

[–] WagnasT@piefed.world 10 points 2 days ago

Calm down nerds, it's a library book and won't even be his problem soon.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I cut my finger when I was reading last night and didn't notice it, so now I have a couple pages of Red Rising spattered in blood. Kinda fitting, ngl

[–] Vupware@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why is everybody reading this book all of a sudden? I’ve seen it mentioned like 10 times this week alone!

[–] EonNShadow@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's a good series. It starts out feeling a little bit derivative, but comes into its own in books 2 onward.

I'm waiting for book 5 to fully release in Graphic Audio before I dive into it again.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I read book 2 today. I didn't fully set aside my Pixiesque weekend debauchery, but I bloodydamn killed the book withinin 12 hours!

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I have no idea, an IRL buddy of mine reccomended it to me about a month ago

They'd better be for turning the page.

Because eating wings with chopsticks is like putting ice in milk. It ain't right.

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Hold up. Ice in milk isn't right? Who says?

[–] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I feel like I remember George Washington or Ben Franklin died from it or something like that....

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Kobo ereader has a remote you could manipulate with your feet.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So I have been putting off getting an ereader for music and the foot pedal is a necessity. Tell me of this remote

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

https://us.kobobooks.com/products/kobo-remote

I like my Kobo for a couple reasons

  • All the reasons you might want to boycott Amazon
  • Built in Overdrive support so you can borrow ebooks from your local library
  • Instapaper built in

It used to have Pocket support until that service shut down. Kobo was good about quickly replacing that with the equivalent service from Instapaper. It lets you save web pages and it doesn't just save the link. It strips the ads and junk and saves a copy of the content. It's also useful for bypassing soft pay walls.

I don't know what you're talking about with music on an ereader. I can't speak to music or audiobook support since I haven't tried it. I think the basic model I have supports audiobooks but not music.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Regarding music, I have been wanting to get a cheap and large (yes I know) tablet for sheet music. There are so many free pdfs out there that buying music is for chumps with ethics.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You'd probably want to build a housing for the remote to make it more like a guitar foot switch, but I agree it would be a great setup for sheet music.

I have large format ereader and I never thought to use it like that

So there's a musical group I was in twenty years ago ish, and they do some fun stuff. Without going into too much detail we kind of constantly pushed the boundaries of the art form when I was with them. They did the sheet music on the large format ereader last I saw them but I don't know if they still do, there are understandable complaints with the technology. Personally I just want something to hold all my practice shit.

I was reading Dune in the bath and the book fell in. I thought it was hilarious as I just got done the part where they were desperate for water. I provided enough water for the entire story. 😭

[–] mr_anny@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When you master that you will evolve to wingman.

[–] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I can only dream of such a day

[–] ultrafastsloth@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don’t know where you live, but i will find you and lick all your dirty fingers in a way you will find uncomfortable before you desecrate any more precious paperbacks

When I was like 15-16 I was riding in my buddy's car and he asked our other friend to pump gas. When he got back in he kept complaining about smelling gasoline, and kept saying dude had gotten it on his hands. He was being a real dick about it, so when he wasn't looking dude reached down and fondled his nuts and when he kept on dude was like "dude, smell my hand! It's fine!" And he did. And the entire group of us lost our shit it was so funny. Except for the driver, who was pissed. But, like 2 weeks before that the driver had walked up behind the same guy while he was sitting and just flopped his super long dick on his shoulder through his fly, so, like, he set the tone of the friendship with that shit.

[–] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's assault brutha

At least it's a soft cover, not a hard cover.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is why e-readers and large freezer bags were invented.

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

E-readers aren't as satisfying as turning real pages imo, but the freezer bags is gospel.

I have had so many people look at me like I'm a wizard (which is fair, I've got the crazy eyebrow) for hanging my phone off the back of the seat in front of me in a hook and loop bag when I fly. I should probably start taking the plane.

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sucks to be gross or unlike that ? I guess we all are wrong and the world is too polite to not be like that… or not and otherwise we are all better… I guess the point is nothing counts and there’s nothing better than the internet…

Sucks to be so gross that nothing matters when the world is so bad… I guess nothing matters…
