Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

In before "it's too soon to talk about gun control."

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Cue that Onion headline

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 29 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

The headline is not untrue, but I think a lot of people are making school shooting assumptions based on “mass shooting” that would probably be avoidable with a change in phrasing.

One adult man shot his wife and presumed girlfriend, killed seven of their own children, plus an eighth who was visiting, and then booked it. It’s a horrific crime to commit and I can’t understand how a person can do something like that.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

I don't get it but also this is how a lot of mass killings played out historically. Hell my own ancestor pruned the old branches on the tree as it were before he became a bandit.

Domestic Violence are the new School Shootings for the news media. Nancy Grace and Paula Zahn are hot on the case!

[–] ductTapedWindow@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

I'm so disappointed to find out that Nancy Grace is still alive

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 14 points 9 hours ago

Used to be the Aztec were seen as barbaric for sacrificing their children to appease their gods.. . history rhyming, Americans now sacrifice their children to appease their gods Remington and Winchester.

[–] spitfire@lemmy.world 22 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

If the other children had guns to defend themselves this could’ve easily be avoided, right?

But the good kids need bigger automatic weapons so they can defend themselves against the bad kids, right? NRA would probably say grenade launchers should be good

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 23 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Huh, and it was in a red state... Again

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It's only the speaker of the house's hometown and in the district he currently represents

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 7 hours ago

He doesn't care about them, he has a constituency of One.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 44 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

So they want them to be born, even if the mother doesn’t want them.

Then they want to either sextraffic them and protect pedophiles to the extent of putting them in the white house.

And if not that, they’ll kill some. At school in the USA or Iran.

Every child’s the same for the ~~most~~ second most violent nation on earth, that’s taking everyone else with them

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Second most violent? Not the first? For decades the US has started wars and supported other's wars and committed horrible war crimes. Their economy is based on violence. What country has been more violent than the US?

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 10 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Their unsinkable aircraft carrier in the middle east?

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

They have been fighting wars there, true. But the US did and does globally and they supplied and currently supply Israel to enable their wars. I think the US wins by a landslide. Just this year the US bombed 6 countries (Venezuela, Somalia, Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Yemen).

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I think executing ~~a~~ multiple genocides > supplying and supporting a genocide.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yet the US is committing violence on a global scale. The US still has legal slavery. School shootings are normalized. Crime rates are through the roof. Their judicial system is corrupt. So is their incarceration system, which commits crimes against humanity itself. Their police is extremily violent, while being equipped with military grade weapons and gear. They started more wars than anyone.

What Israel is doing is horrific. What the US does is on such a larger scale, while also supporting the genocide Israel is committing, among all the other war crimes and crimes against humanity from Israel. Israel is the biggest bully of the Middle East. The US is the biggest bully of the world.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Well argued. I’m not going to fight my position. US is surface level very obviously violent, but Israel is the one which works behind the scenes and sets up elaborate schemes to treat many other brands of humans worse than we treat cattle.

America you can avoid by no longer using silicon valley garbage and just not going there. Israel is everywhere, behind the scenes buying the politician you voted for more than 10,000km away from Jerusalem, just to make sure you don’t shout on the streets that Palestine should be free.

Israel is covert and cloak and dagger. Journalists are killed first. At least in the US, it is still being filmed and rapist soldiers wouldn’t get sent straight to the battlefield.

Happy to give the top award to USA, Israel and Russia all together at the same time.

It might be unsinkable, but it also can't move out of the way of climate change.

I think a lot of what we are seeing in many areas is absolute desperation caused by the inescapable reality of climate change starting to become too imminent to ignore. We are running out of road to kick the can down.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 2 points 11 hours ago

Government: "No lives matter" (not spoken with words, but very clearly demonstrated through actions)

Also government: "Why aren't people reproducing anymore?"

[–] MoonWalker1999@piefed.social 14 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Horrifying. When will it end?

[–] Elilol@fedinsfw.app 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

This is so sad... the smell of freedom is led and iron.

[–] spitfire@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

So much freedom. America is so much greater already.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 0 points 7 hours ago

Red state. It's always a Red state.
