Can it still involve their genitals?

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Drive down to a beach nearby and sit in the car with a bag of chips, watching people walk by with their Very Good Dogs. My wife and I love it.

Hey I just got a RSS feed post about this topic

https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/Mqg2bqFw8k79sW7C2/you-should-try-contra-dancing

They give one example and explain the nuances of it but its really can be any sort of dancing or adult sports or board game nights or movement arts like taichi, judo, jiu jitsu, or climbing gyms for practicing bouldering, could be volunteering in some cases or LARPing, any sort of rexourring outdoor group that is physically away from devices and is pro social in a way that is low stakes where everyone has their attention on something else so the shy people have a easier time to get in

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A specific partner dance (not contra) is my favorite hobby and when you click with a song and a parter and drop into flow state is just magical.

[–] confuser@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been figuring out lately that I'd probably like dancing if I wasn't so sheltered growing up. I know what what you mean about the movement flow state from doing stuff like cutting wood, I think there is something good about learning to cultivate flow state anytime too which is a bit difficult to explain but it just makes everything better.

What sort of stuff do you reccomend for dancing? I think to start out with it for me it would probably be easier to find solo stuff I can learn but partner dances seem pretty appealing for a lot of reasons.

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Contra dancing is distinctly not my thing (I don’t want to be told what to do), but I have done it and everything in that blog post is in line with my experience.

If you’re concerned about difficulty, I think merengue or bachata are great starter dances.

Otherwise figure out what music you like or makes you want to tap your toes and search out the dance that goes with that.

[–] confuser@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That is exactly what I was thinking about contra, it seems like the kind of thing where the reward and structure is best for beginners looking to learn broadly by trying everything but not as much as something to just go do often because the skill tree hits a wall quickly.

If I've learned anything its that I can learn everything, I think I'd be decent at dancing because I do things which I think might be dance-like in the kitchen where I turn parts of my body just a little bit more here and there to get the most reach and dexterity out of various parts, I'm not crazy flexible but I think I can go a bit more than most and I'm rather tall and lanky so everything feels better to just be moving often.

I think I got the favorite music part down, but ill have to consider what of the music I like is danceable, that's a good tip I hadn't considered, pretty much I'll find a way to enjoy anything but I do have things I like more than others but its very all over the place.

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know of plenty of people who go monthly/weekly and have been for years. The pleasure is probably less in the learning and more in the doing of the thing. incidentally I feel similar about my other hobby of crochet. I have been doing it for literally decades and still mostly do beginner rated patterns because I just like making a thing with yarn.

[–] confuser@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah I'm just saying difficulty is not an issue

Play games

With their genitals

[–] navigator@piefed.zip 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Playing music (jamming or performing) together. Nothing beats getting into a groove with fellow musicians.

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 8 points 2 days ago

That was far and away my favorite part of playing in a band. Shows are exhilarating and all don't get me wrong, but just a regular opportunity to jam with other people is fricking amazing. Good call!

I really enjoy hiking, especially in the sort of places where you can explore and choose different routes ... hiking is nice, because you're getting exercise, fresh air, and you can talk to whoever you're with, with enough time to have a proper in-depth conversation.

And when you're out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature's beauty, you can fuck them.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

My best mate and I love to play co-op games over Discord.

Heatedly debate with them from a place of bad faith about events and concepts that are not actionable and we have no control whatsoever about, getting extremely winded up and emotional during the entire process, speaking louder than what's socially acceptable, using very cheap half baked arguments and ultimately appealing to made-up authority figures if they corner me, until they admit I'm right, even if just out of sheer exhaustion or sarcastic condescension.

Hey, I'll take what I can get.

hbu?

Just one person? And aside from pleasantly passing the time with random chatter...

Squash.

Loved playing squash with someone of similar ability, just socially keeping score in a endless game until we're too tired to play.

Thinking of nothing else for a time, focused on the game.

Sadly my health hasn't been up to that for a while now... But that was great.

As a group activity. Table-top RPG with long-running worlds.

Usually D&D but even system-less story-teller games. Whether running the game or playing it.

Role-playing with an experienced and familiar group of friends that can flip instantly in and out of character to chat about the game as much as play it - that's great fun. We could do that all day (and in some instances most of the night)...

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 6 points 2 days ago

Either having a deep conversation or sharing an activity that we're both passionate about. Things involving genitals don't make it to that list in my case anyway. I count those as chores.

I really wanna just talk fringe topics...

Like alt timelines, butterfly effect, philosophy (especially ontology), space travel, aliens, fermi paradox, time dialation, black holes, you know, all the very werid stuff...

But unfortunately, people IRL seems to not like to talk about these things...

The other thing is just... I guess exchange life stories...

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

My dude you just need better people. My spouse and I gab about stuff like this all the time.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago
