Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Health officials in Trump administration were accused of fueling ‘crisis of public trust’ over autism and vaccines

Misinformation from top health officials in the Trump administration has created a “crisis of public trust” – and Congress should conduct oversight hearings and possibly impeach officials such as Robert F Kennedy Jr, the secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), according to a recently released report.

Experts say that officials in the past year have focused intently on both vaccines and autism, including efforts to connect autism to the use of acetaminophen (frequently sold as Tylenol) during pregnancy, despite growing evidence of no link, and replacing all members of the federal autism committee with advisers who have anti-vaccine and pseudoscientific histories.

Disinformation. It's intentional.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 29 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

How about we just go back to "lies" so the simple-minded folks who always fall for that crap can have a chance of "getting it" for once?

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It always seems to be the lying authoritarians themselves who shout "LIES" the loudest, and that may be a problem. Because if you do the same thing, even with honest intentions, you become just like them, in the public imagination at least.

But those who pay attention know which is the truth, while yelling "lies" seems to work on the clueless - seems win-win to me.

I actually believe he is so stupid and poisoned by false sources that it isn't.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Remember (because the media hushed it up), he said autistic people should be sent to work camps. This is the beginning of Final Solution 2.0.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago

And not only people with autism. People addicted to drugs, people who take antidepressants or Adderall.... Sent to perform farm labor and be "re-parented' in the case of young people.

In case anyone doesn't remember/believe it, articles about it are easy to find.

They may can force us into camps, but I assure you most of us have pathological demand avoidance (pda), we’d rather die than do something we don’t want to. We can be some of the most stubborn assholes you’d ever meet.

I wonder if this how Roman civilians felt when the empire fell apart.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

I would imagine slaves and other outgroups were glad.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

RFKJr does remind me of Caligula's horse...

RFK jr. was never a senator, though.

Also, obligatory Modey Lemon.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Roman empire fell apart over a few hundred years. USA is speed running this, so it'll be a tad more stressful.

We’ve been speed-running this since Nixon was in office.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The whole US is drowning in right wing LIES dressed up as news, not just government disinformation.

Debunk the Funk with Dr. Wilson

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 0 points 7 hours ago

Shout-out to Professor Dave, Miniminuteman, and Logicked at least his old videos on Kent Hovind and other quaks.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dr. Wilson! That dude is absolutely awesome. I first saw him on a debate where he and professor Dave completely embarrassed a pair of vaccine sceptics. All his stuff is awesome.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

I have literal fantasies where Wilson is more popular than Rogan

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These facists would have us all rounded up and put in the camps with the other undesirables.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

ADX Florence won't fit them in. Would rather send them to a penal colony in Antarctica.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -2 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Of course they will. You refuse to fight back. Where do you think this is going?

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You don't know me. You don't know who I am or what I do.

But yes, my fellow citizens are not standing up enough. In fact, a ton of my local community strongly approves of what's happening. They will gladly watch their friends and family dragged away.

[–] DiarrheaSommelier@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh they're fighting back, all right. Their fighting is downvoting Lemmy comments critical of their apathy and hoping that the next election makes a difference, even though they won't actually show up and vote themselves for reasons.

Intentionally mistaking cowardice for helplessness

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, he absolutely is, as if my life hadn't been miserable enough already being misunderstood all the time, misunderstanding myself, not even realizing I had a problem until I was an adult because of lack of information in my youth. It's absolutely disgusting, there is no excuse for it whatsoever, he knows it's all lies, it's evil through and through.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm autistic. I'm also comfortably retired with a wife, two cats, a house, and a Honda Accord. I'm not dependent on anyone. And now I actually have to have real concerns that I may get a late night visit from the Mental Normality Police.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 2 points 2 days ago

Well done :) Yes, I really don't know where they are going with this, if this is some more market manipulation, if they actually know the cause and they are trying to pin it on something else, if they believe we are a threat, who knows. I have been hitting the exercise bike pretty hard tho getting in better shape just in case lol. I honestly believe if people just took some time to understand and work with neurodiverse people this could be a much better world, give us a little to work with and we will go to town with it, just have a little faith in us and we will pay you back 1000x every time.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

They hate us cause they ain't us.

No, seriously, they dont actually believe we are capable of feats of intelligence or rejection of authority and that we fear our routine getting fucked with or people lying to us.

They see us as a threat to their power, not as an easy target.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn’t drowning a legitimate concern when you hang out with the Kennedys?

Seems wrong to paint the whole family for one drunk driver.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What he says about autism is simply not true.

Duffman says a lot of things and most of it is not true. A demonstrable untrustworthy source. A man of great harm. He wears ignorance on his sleeve. Those that have empowered him bear the greatest guilt.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

There, the triumph of lying and deception on a massive scale, and all the bastards are reveling in the chaos, death and destruction they make.
