I have no love for the Iranian regime that has killed tens of thousands and oppressed millions. But Iran has been strategically ahead of Trump from the start.

They view themselves as a 3000 year old civilization and they will always outwait their foes. The only leverage against an enemy like that is the threat of imminent destruction. It seems that ship has already sailed.

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 2 points 17 minutes ago

This man belongs in the kindergarten.

I thought he didn't care about midterm?

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Thwump: You need to get on your knees and suck my balls!

Iran: No, you fat fuck!

Thwump: No fair, you're stalling your surrender!

Thwump is a dumb loser.

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 9 points 2 hours ago

So all they have to do to outwit this kidfucker is nothing?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 hour ago

The Iranians already did that once, kidnapping the American Embassy workers, helped get Reagan elected in 1980, then released them on his Inauguration Day. I doubt the Iranians are going to be as helpful to Trump.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago

So much uncertainties and hypotheses:

  • Iran is indeed waiting for the midterms.
  • Iran is waiting for their hackers team to get the rest of the Epstein files.
  • Iran is waiting to replenish their missiles stockpile so that they can resume the fight and wipe the US in the area.

We can all see the pressure on ~~both~~ sides to reach an agreement. It's good to have so many cards on hand...

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

So, trump is implying that even he knows he's screwed this November.

Wasn't Netenyahu accused of the same for the '24 election?

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

As if it matters.

Americans are so fucking brain-dead that even if the midterms aren't outright abolished or rigged, they'd still do fuckall to change things because 'both sides hurr durr'.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

ah right the old "both sides are fuckin kids and threatening annexation of all countries and secretly gay and total racists". uh huh. so clear.

[–] Lucius_Sweet@lemmy.world -1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

They won't do much to change things because the USA's 2 party political system corrupted by Citizens United means that it does not matter who you vote for. The republicans are outright in your face evil and the democrats are the two faces do the bad stuff behind your back evil. The entire political circus is kept spinning by the corporate money that all in power in America are subservient to.

The illusion of choice is the killer here, Americans keep voting for evil parties and are suddenly surprised where their country has ended up. America hasn't been a real democracy for a long time. The American people over the last 30 or so years have been the most disappointing aspect of this, they absolutely let this happen to themselves while convincing themselves that they live in the greatest democracy in the world with checks and balances because the Dow keeps going up, duh!

TL;DR: "both sides hurr durr"

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 hours ago

Stop hitting yourself.

Says the old, child rapist as he launches strikes against a country for no discernible reason.

Why no peace deal?

Trump will either make up a completely non-existent win or sign some absolutely financially devastating peace deal and claim it a win just so he can save some face in the short term.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 hours ago

Iran should do that since he's worried about it and blabbering in a senior moment.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago

Iran is going to need to wait entire weeks at this point.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 25 points 8 hours ago

And? Trump uses fake peace talks to manipulate the market. Quite honestly, I find Iran to have much more integrity than the US in this whole affair.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 8 hours ago

This guy is such a weak dumbass.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 17 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

There never was a peace plan. This was the plan all along.

There was never a plan. The most powerful country on Earth is being run by absolute morons.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

It's always projection with this fuck

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 143 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

How DARE Iran WAIT until after the Midterms to STOP the War Trump Started for No Reason!

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 1 points 20 minutes ago* (last edited 19 minutes ago)

How dare they try to come out of a war in a way that would cause the least amount of damage to them by allegedly strategizing!

[–] BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

No reason or a million mentions in certain files reason?

God this is exhausting

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 28 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

No shit, you're the dumbass who started a war without a reason, let alone a good one, after a series of other terrible PR events you were proud of at the time before the backlash made you realize the more your base erodes the more likely it is the Epstein Files will drop.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Unrelated, but thanks for properly ordering your "let alone a x" statement. People very often get it backwards.

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

I'm sure my late high school English teacher would be proud of me using the skills he taught me to roast public morons, get into arguments with strangers on the internet and write amateur pornographic material. Actually on second thought Mr P probably WOULD get a chuckle out of me spending my free time doing that.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 85 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

“I don’t care about the midterms

For someone who doesn't care about the midterms, Trump sure does talk about them a lot.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It's also weird how he thinks that everyone elsewhere in the world is doing everything in relation to an election that could adversely affect him.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 12 points 7 hours ago

Main character syndrome. It comes with the territory of being a narcissist.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 50 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

If trump says he doesn't care about something, that thing is what he is most worried about in that moment

It's just below the other rule:

Any wrongdoing he accuses others of, is something he is definitely doing himself

[–] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

"Are you still talking about the Epstein files?"

- Trump

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Well why did he start a pointless war less than a year before the midterms then?

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Because he thought it would be easy. Anybody telling him Iran was preparing for this moment for years and it will be hard got dismissed. Having Bibi whispering in his ear surely didn't help.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 hours ago

The Epstein War(s) are definitely not pointless.

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 69 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

"Not fair, they're too smart."

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 18 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

But he ACED three congitive tests and won the FIFA peace prize!

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (4 children)

I’m hearing that the FIFA Peace Prize just isn’t what it used to be.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago

The FIFA peace prize is funny bevause like, I had heard FIFA was corrupt for years, but because I don't follow football at all, didn't really know anything about it and to me it could've just been exaggeration. Then they come out and do the MOST BLATANTLY corrupt thing ever?

Surely there are millions of people like me who previously didn't know if FIFA was corrupt, and who now have no doubt... will that not have consequences?! Insane either way.

Iran has already won the conflict. What's holding things up at this point is Trump wants them to give him some kind of concession so that he can declare victory and, at least in his own mind, look like a winner. But why the hell would Iran do that?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They should give him some prize - get a toy ring or something, spray paint it in gold and present it to him.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

Just do what Xi did. Make a non-binding agreement that you might possibly buy a bunch of stuff in the future with absolutely no intention of ever actually following through.

Says guy who tanked immigration reform so that it could be an election issue.

[–] Soulifix@piefed.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Stalling on a deal when supposedly he just started throwing bombs at them again? I'm having a hard time figuring as to why they'd stall now or may not want a peace deal.

That's like grabbing someone by the neck and slapping them every 2 minutes when you're asking them when do they want to go back home after having just settled in a restaurant for dinner.

[–] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 4 points 8 hours ago

I've been told that we've always been at war with Eastasia...

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 24 points 13 hours ago (6 children)

He doesn't need Iran to make peace. He could literally just end the war at any time by bringing everyone home.
