Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Somehow tourists don't like the prospect of potentially ending up in a concentration camp...

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 48 points 1 week ago

"Oh you liked a posting calling the president fat? Let's see where we can extradite you."

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

And paying 5K or whatever for the privilege

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

It’s $5000,$10000, or $15000, just for a bond if your from a country the racists don’t like.

It’s fucking insane.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago

Ya I just don't understand the problem!

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its not going to matter.

Every stadium will be packed come game time.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

With whom? Americans are just confused if people actually play football with their feet.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Ahhh yes, American Football, the game where you generally throw the ball.

What, making yourself an international pariah and also actively being hostile towards anyone who even just looks foreign who's in your borders is not good for tourism? Who could've guessed? I'm sure that spiking oil prices will fix it right

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Well no shit. Who wants to disclose their entire lives to a fascist government, and then be at the absolute mercy of a bunch of homeschooled ICE morons?

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago

homeschooled ICE morons

You wish they had even that level of education...

Even when the world cup was in my country I didn't go to any matches. Not that I could afford it, but even if I could I still wouldn't have gone.
This time I won't even watch it on the TV. That's how much I dislike that fat cunt paedo and his regime.

(I also didn't watch it when it was in Qatar.)

[–] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 35 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I haven’t watched international soccer since they awarded Russia and Qatar with the World Cup. Fucking corrupt pieces of shit supporting the worst people.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 14 points 1 week ago

Fifa is just getting more corrupt too. They are really leaning into it, even after the last president or whatever had to step down because of it.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Really makes me wonder who they'll find to host the next World Cup.

Afghanistan, perhaps?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Maybe Argentina?

If Milei hasn't rendered it insolvent in time for the next host picking process, that is.

[–] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Watch them do it in Israel

[–] elvith@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Guess where they'll build the stadiums... I heard they currently have a huge area of land paved flat

Italy getting repeatedly eliminated from the world cup is one of the best things that happened to this country in the last years

How is this Possible? They gave him the PEACE PRIZE for GODS Sake!

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This should be the worst sporting event ever. 1936 Olympics should be a shining star in comparison.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Actually, the 1936 Olympics were quite successful despite efforts to boycott them.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Fascism was celebrated in 1936 Olympics so it is being celebrated in this World Cup. It was however Jesse Owens who is remembered about 1936. I can't find any examples this time around.

Money talks, bullshit walks.

We'll see what happens when this starts hitting the bottom line of big businesses.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What about Canada and Mexico ones? Are they better attended?

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tourist should floor Canada and help their economy.

But if you have to go to the US at least do not spend your money in red states.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Canadian businesses are greedy also and from what I understand there is a shortage of bookings due to price. I heard they'll be charging $80+ for parking at BMO field. Offensive.

Countries don't like also being treated as vassal states for rednecks.

All the scalpers who expected to flip pre-sold units on the secondary market

Exactly they're so disappointed but they didn't lower prices so a lifelong soccer fan with an average income like myself can afford to go. The way prices are right now, it's simply not an option, i couldn't afford it on a credit card even if i was willing to ruin my finances!

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Let's sell the house and go watch a few world cup games!

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

American itself is the reason.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

At the end of the day the fans supporting their teams get screwed the most.

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Which infantino is this cluster fuck going to get blamed on more?
