The Rock was the basis for false descriptions of the Iraqi chemical weapons program. Britain's Secret Intelligence Service was led to believe Saddam Hussein was continuing to produce weapons of mass destruction by a false agent who based his reports on The Rock, according to the Chilcot Inquiry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rock_(film)

Where is the guidance chip?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 29 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

This is what the VX gas from The Rock came in.

The crazy thing is that VX gas is real, and what the movie shows it to do isn't even half as bad as what really happens.

anyone with a real degree in microbiology would know that you cant keep microbes in those little glass balls with little to no oxygen

Isn't that the chemical weapon from The Rock ?

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 minutes ago

Nah, these are just vaginal beads ;p

[–] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 25 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, and if I’m remembering correctly Condoleeza Rice and/or Colin Powell cited this device as evidence of WMDs in Iraq to the United Nations.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Holy shit really?! 😂

Fun fact, Mi6 plagiarized from the plot from The Rock to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Specifically "the use of glass containers for chemical agents and the similarity of the description to those portrayed in The Rock "

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 minute ago

Even if true, there's nothing "fun" about the origin story that led to a war killing over a hundred thousands and including some horrible war crimes.

[–] sorter_plainview@lemmy.today 3 points 1 hour ago

That is not really correct based on the available information. Look at the title of the article itself,

The Rock movie plot 'may have inspired MI6 source's Iraqi weapons claim'

The source of Mi6, claimed that Iraq had this. But Mi6 was clearly suspicious, because chemical ammunition are usually not stored in glass containers. This is given just below of the line you quoted,

MI6 accepted this possible flaw to the intelligence, the report adds: “The questions about the use of glass containers for chemical agents and the similarity of the description to those portrayed in The Rock had been recognised by SIS. There were some precedents for the use of glass containers but the points would be pursued when further material became available.”

JFC... What a surreal damned world. That's ludicrous, but if you look at what Trump say or does is doesn't even come close.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 10 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

Wouldn’t it have been better if he just let it roll away from him?

Is been a long time since I’ve watched the movie

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 21 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The antidote seemed pretty harsh

Imagine injecting yourself with pure bees. D:

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago

NOT THE BEES!!!

[–] TheDeadInternet@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

If it hit the water it would probably be fine water is very good at diluting stuff.

Japan dumped the radioactive water they had from the meltdown and nothing really bad happened because again large bodies of water are great at diluting stuff.

The only thing I can think of is if there was ground below it could have cracked and possibly got to the hostages.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

There were hostages on the island and if the pearl popped it would infect all of the hostages and possibly caught the wind to disperse over part of SF. Even one would have killed hundreds of people.

[–] Embargo@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 hours ago

Shoe catch!

[–] OS2Warp@lemmy.zip 74 points 9 hours ago

Yes. In a string of pearls configuration; very unstable.

[–] Gaxsun@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 hours ago

You gotta hand it to the left, elegant string of pearls configuration...

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 hours ago

There’s no fixing this level of stupid

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 52 points 9 hours ago (7 children)

The McAfee account has to be a larp account, right? I mean, I know the real McAfee is an actual psycho, but thats not actually him, right?

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 12 points 3 hours ago

Reminder: the "verified" mark only means "I am paying $8/month to the richest asshole in the world"

Any scammer can be "verified"

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

He is also very very dead. 👻

[–] OS2Warp@lemmy.zip 74 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

I think he’s dead, so I’d say it’s not him.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 31 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's exactly what someone who is dead WOULD say. Hmmmm

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 23 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

If anyone faked their death to continue posting weird shit online under their own name it would be him

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

The best place to hide a tree is in the forest...

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

It’s John McAfee, if he were still alive it very well could have been him.

There’s still a small chance it’s him.

[–] rain_enjoyer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 hours ago

getting news from a man whose brain was rotted by bath salts is a choice. it's not like he had a solid grip on reality before that, and also doesn't help that he's buried for five years

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 17 points 8 hours ago

It's more of a Weekend at Bernie's type situation...

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago

It’s got the blue check mark, so it must be him. /s

[–] sandwich@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

The real McAfee is too busy swinging in his hammock

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 18 points 8 hours ago

The aggressive algae all had tiny little stiletto knives and leather jackets

[–] DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works 14 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I'm going to write a strongly-worded letter to the president of Antifa about their use of chemical weapons.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Just remember to use enough leftist buzzwords, then people within antifa will start to cancel each other for "problematic behavior".

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 10 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Is there anything peptides can't do?

[–] forbiddencherry@lemmy.today 16 points 7 hours ago

Can't think of anything!
